Vicksburg Daily News –

IBERVILLE PARISH, LA. – A Vicksburg man has been arrested in Louisiana for allegedly conspiring to kill a 65-year-old man in Iberville Parish, in what Sheriff Brett Stassi called “a potential murder-for-hire.” 25-year-old Johnnie Hicks has been charged with second-degree murder, solicitation for murder, criminal conspiracy, aggravated burglary, obstruction of justice, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charges.

On August 27, 2024, 65-year-old Herman Harris was found deceased with a single gunshot wound at his home on Highway 76 in Maringouin. The crime has since been considered a murder-for-hire scheme that resulted in multiple arrests. Hicks’ DNA was found on a pillow at the crime scene and he is believed to be the trigger man.

“Through our investigation, we learned this was a potential murder-for-hire that occurred in Maringouin, Louisiana. This is not the norm, but this is what the investigation turned out to be,” Sheriff Stassi said at a press conference.

An Edwards man is also wanted in the crime. 32-year-old Javadda Lewis is still on the run as he faces charges of wanted on charges of second-degree murder, solicitation for murder, criminal conspiracy, aggravated burglary, and obstruction of justice.

“These four people planned and executed the murder of Mr. Harris in Maringouin. These people will be brought to justice, and they will be turned over to our District Attorney Tony Clayton to take care of this matter in the courts and through the system,” Sheriff Stassi said.

Harris worked for Brooks and was injured on the job. Investigators believed that he might sue Brooks which is when the murder-for-hire-plan began to take place.

Lewis is considered armed and dangerous and if anyone knows of his whereabouts, they should call the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office at 225-687-3553.
