A 30-year-old woman was stabbed to death in Long Beach by a 24-year-old man she was reportedly in a dating relationship with, authorities announced.

Officers with the Long Beach Police Department responded to reports of a burglary at a gated community in the 3500 block of Santa Fe Avenue just before 3 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from LBPD.

When police arrived, the victim, identified as Long Beach resident Alejandra Acosta Butron, was lying in the street, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

She was later declared deceased at the scene, police said.

The 24-year-old suspect, identified as Leonard Lee Rowles Jr., also a resident of Long Beach, was taken into custody and booked on one count of murder. He is being held on $2 million bail.

“While detectives have determined that the suspect and victim were in a dating relationship, the motive and circumstances leading up to the stabbing are still under investigation,” the release stated.
