Shots Reportedly Fired at Lowe’s Hardware in Morganton

Officers with the Morganton Department of Public Safety are investigating an incident yesterday (September 17) in which shots were fired at the Lowe’s Home Improvement store on Burkemont Avenue.

At about 3:05 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to a “shots fired” call at the store. Statements made by witnesses at the scene indicated that the incident began when a shoplifter attempted to exit the store without paying for items. Witnesses also stated that the shots were fired from a handgun outside the store as the shoplifter was attempting to leave the parking lot in a vehicle.

There were no injuries reported. The alleged shoplifter left the scene before Officers arrived. The shooter was not a Lowe’s employee.
