See the moment homeowner returns to horror house after thinking it had been kept in shipshape by house sitter

LEAVING your home unattended when you go away can be a risk – but so can the wrong house sitter, as one woman found out.

Monica Christina shared the disgusting scene she was met with as she returned home, thanks to a very disrespectful house sitter.

On her @moncristina0 account, she showed how the kitchen counters were covered with left out food that had gone mouldy.

The sink was full of used dishes and everything looked like a complete state.

Monica wrote: “I was gone for a few days recently due to a family emergency and hired a house sitter as I had some things to keep alive and a few important packages I was expecting.

“I walked into my home and the stench I was met with, I honestly thought I was being pranked lol.

“How can a person leave your house like this?”

Monica showed how her milk carton had been left outside the fridge – which she found had been confusingly switched off – and it had gone off.

She added: “For some reason the person had switched off my fridge. Not sure why, everything’s spoiled.”

She was forced to tip the milk down the sink and bin numerous food items, which annoyed the homeowner as she understandably “hates wasting food.”

Monica said she refused to pay the house sitter due to the mess they had left.

She said in the comments: “I saw red honestly, needless to say that the price for this service was £0 because I refused to pay.”

After the shocking experience, she said she has been completely put off hiring another house sitter.

She wrote: “Anyway this was deffo a learning experience and I’ll never do it again.

“Every piece of cutlery and crockery was used.

“They started to use my toddler’s stuff too.”

Her video has racked up over a thousand likes, and people were baffled at the mess.

One said: “Isn’t a house sitter meant to prevent your house from getting trashed?”

Monica joked: “I think my house sitter was broken.”

Another added: “The way I could never leave a house like this… I stayed at a family members house for a month and tidied every second it got slightly messy.”

And a third commented: “Then isn’t just bad. That’s is absolutely awful.

“To an extent where you could take them to court

“Hope this doesn’t make you ill.”

How much can you earn as a house sitter in the UK?

THE amount a house sitter can earn in the UK varies depending on a number of factors.

However, the national average salary for a house sitter in the United Kingdom is £23,952, according to Glass Door.

The rates can depend on factors such as:

  • Location
  • Length of stay – some long-term assignments of three months or more can charge a lower fee than shorter assignments.
  • Pets – if the owner has animals that you need to look after the fee may be higher, particularly for dogs which require more work than cats
  • Property size – the bigger the property the more care and upkeep may be required, depending on the terms.
