Journalist Ryan Lizza claims he has broken up with his “ex-fiancée” Olivia Nuzzi, according to his first statement about allegations that she had an affair with former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Lizza, 50, is a co-author of Politico’s Playbook, and the newsletter only covered the scandal in Friday afternoon’s edition.
However, in the “media watch” section, Playbook noted that Status News’ Oliver Darcy broke the news that Nuzzi had been suspended after engaging in an “inappropriate relationship” with RFK Jr.
“Because I am connected to this story through my ex-fiancée, my editors and I have agreed that I will not be involved in any coverage of Kennedy in Playbook or elsewhere at POLITICO,” Lizza wrote.
Lizza was previously a Washington correspondent for the New Yorker, but was fired amid allegations of “inappropriate sexual conduct.”
But it’s his private life that’s now in the spotlight, after Nuzzi, 31, admitted to an alleged affair with RFK Jr., 70, which began when she visited his $7 million California mansion to write an article.

Lizza rose to fame after publishing a profanity-filled interview with former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci in 2017.
Scaramucci was quoted calling former Chief of Staff Reince Priebus a “f****** paranoid schizophrenic and paranoiac” and implying that Chief Strategist Steve Bannon “sucked his own pussy.” He also threatened to fire staffers in the article.
Critics found his interview unnecessarily vulgar, especially for someone representing the United States. Scaramucci was subsequently fired.
Shortly after the article was published, horrific allegations about Lizza herself also emerged, leading to his dismissal from the prestigious magazine.
