Pueblo Chile Festival street closures begin Sept. 19

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The 30th Chile and Frijoles Festival kicks off Thursday, Sept. 19 with the Chili and Salsa Showdown.

For those planning to attend the festival throughout the weekend, the Pueblo Police Department (PPD) is sharing a few safety reminders attendees should keep in mind while partaking in the festivities.

  • Watch for increased foot traffic around the event.
  • Follow posted speed limits and do not drive distracted.
  • Do not leave valuables of any kind in your vehicle and remember to lock your doors.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and follow your gut instincts. If something feels unsafe seek help.
  • Report suspicious activity to the police by calling the non-emergency number at (719)-553-2502. In case of an emergency dial 9-1-1.

In addition, starting Sept. 19 Union Avenue from City Center Drive to B. Street will be closed.

Alan Hamel Avenue/Grand Avenue between Victoria and Main Streets will also be closed throughout the festival.

Pueblo Police will be using several approaches to provide service during the event, including bike patrols and officers on foot. They will also partner with private security and the Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) to allow for instantaneous video monitoring from staff who are in communication with officers at the festival.
