Officials are investigating after human bones were found just off a Running Springs highway on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 14.
While deputies from the Twin Peaks sheriff’s station were on a proactive patrol in an area of Highway 330 closed by the Line fire around 3:44 p.m., they located bones that were determined to be human remains, according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. The location of the discovery is south of City Creek Road.
The coroner’s office collected the bones, which were found on a hill below a large turnout, and is working to identify the person and their cause of death.
Officials said the bones appear to have been in the area for a long period, and investigators don’t believe the cause of death is related to the Line fire.
