Man intentionally run down, killed by transient in Southern California: SBSD

A family is mourning the loss of a father who authorities say was intentionally run down and killed over the weekend by a transient in Hesperia.

Deputies were called to Cataba Road north of Main Street for a vehicle versus pedestrian report shortly before 6:30 a.m. Saturday, preliminary information indicates.

The deputies found the victim, identified as 35-year-old Ricky Kemp of Hesperia, on the roadway and responsive, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release Monday.

Kemp was pronounced dead at the scene.

“During the investigation, it was determined the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe intentionally struck Kemp with the vehicle,” the Sheriff’s Department stated.

The vehicle was found abandoned nearby and the driver, identified as 44-year-old transient John Wynn, was located inside a business.

Wynn was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail.

He is due to appear in Victorville Superior Court on Sept. 17.

Kemp’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs. He was described as a “loving father, son, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend.”

Anyone with further information about the case was asked to contact Detective Ian Gosswiller at 909-890-4904.
