In a devastating turn of events, a 44-year-old man identified as Zibusiso Mhlanga is reported to have committed suicide after allegedly murdering his 19-year-old spouse, Lydia Mlalazi. The incident occurred on September 16, 2024, in the rural community of Siantungwana 4 Village, located within Sikomena, Dobola.
Details of the Tragedy
According to information released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) via their official X (formerly Twitter) account, Mhlanga allegedly assaulted his wife using a stone. The reasons behind the violent act remain unclear at this time.

After the brutal attack, Mlalazi was rushed to a nearby medical facility in Lusulu. Unfortunately, she was declared dead upon arrival, leaving the community shocked and heartbroken by the senseless loss of a young life.

The Zimbabwean authorities have initiated a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding both the murder and the subsequent suicide. Law enforcement officials are currently working to gather more information and have expressed concern over the increasing cases of domestic violence leading to tragic outcomes.
In their statement, the ZRP encouraged the public to seek help in times of domestic strife, rather than turning to violent actions. They highlighted the importance of utilizing available resources and mediation to resolve conflicts without resorting to harmful behaviour.
