Kaizer Chiefs have so far released five players ahead of the transfer deadline, but that is set to change.
Chiefs are in the process of refreshing their squad with outgoings and incomings equally important at this stage.
As it stands, the likes of Keagan Dolly, Sifiso Hlanti, Siyethemba Sithebe, Njabulo Ngcobo and Jasond Gonzales have left Chiefs. Practically speaking, the name of club veteran Itumeleng Khune can be added as a sixth on the list. The former Bafana Bafana international has not received a new playing contract at the club. The likes of Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Sabelo Radebe have been touted for a deadline day exit.
Chiefs looking to offload players
While that may be the case, it looks like one player in Christian Saile may have been given a lifeline. According to Soccer-Laduma, Chiefs failure to add a striker has seen the player get a second chance!
“For now, it seems they (Chiefs) can’t afford to let him go due to the limited number of strikers. Currently, there are only four; Saile, Ranga Chivaviro, Ashley Du Preez, and Wandile Duba. Letting him go would leave just three, raising concerns about potential injuries, suspensions, and the need for substitutions during games. This is why he might not be loaned out until a new striker is signed,”. Said the source.
The source added that, Saile could still be moved on in January should he not impress.
Saile survives the chop?
“The coach has expressed a clear intention to sign an outright striker. With the transfer window closing soon, it seems unlikely they (Chiefs) will secure one in time, which is why they are holding on to Saile. They faced a similar situation with Ashley Du Preez, as they couldn’t let strikers go without having replacements. So, until another striker is signed, Saile is likely to stay, although a loan move in January is still on the table,” concluded the source.
