Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Picks Up Two More Wins at Mount Olive Invitational

The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team improved to 9-0 on the season with a with a pair of wins on Saturday. In the morning, The Bears dropped the first set to Edinboro, but rebounded well, winning the final three sets to move to 8-0. The Bears then cruised to their 9th straight victory with a sweep of Shaw. Lenoir-Rhyne went 4-0 at the Mount Olive Invitational this weekend and will return home next Tuesday looking for their first 10-0 start since the 2009 season.

Against Edinboro, the longest set of the season for the Bears unfortunately didn’t go their way, as Edinboro won the opening set 30-28. All but two points of the match were within three points, with LR holding 12-9 and 19-16 leads in the set. Edinboro battled back to take just the fifth set off the Bears all season.

LR responded well, making quick work of Edinboro in the next three sets. The Bears held Edinboro to below 20 points in all three sets. The Bears had 52 kills in the contest, led by 15 from Kayli Cleaver, while Kathy Peter had nine and Averie Dale added eight.

LR had a season high 11 aces in the contest, led by four from Ella Wimsatt. Hadley Prince and Sydney Karjala added three a piece.

The Bears then forced Shaw into 10 errors in the first set, allowing LR to win 25-22. LR hit .324 and .273 in the second and third set to make quick work of Shaw, 25-14 and 25-17 to finish the sweep. This was the fourth sweep of the season for the Bears.

Lenoir-Rhyne notched a season-low 10 errors in the game. Cleaver led with 10 kills, while Brooke Aeschliman had eight and Kiley Redfern seven.
Jenna Vogen had 15 digs to lead the Bears. Aeschliman’s eight kills were a season high for the freshman.

The Bears have dropped the first set three times this season, and all three cases the Bears have won the next three sets. LR had eight blocks in game one today, which snapped their streak of double digits blocks at three games. The Bears are second in the SAC in blocks-per-set (2.28 B/S)

The Bears are looking for their first 10-0 start since the 2009 season, where they started 10-0.

Lenoir-Rhyne will return to conference play on Tuesday, hosting Newberry inside Shuford Arena. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
