After the deadly Pager explosions, Lebanon has been hit by another wave of explosions, this time the walkie talkie which was used by the members of Hezbollah exploded. What is even more intriguing in this second wave of explosions is that two solar also exploded in the Hezbollah stronghold on Wednesday. There have been no deaths in the solar panel explosion but a girl was wounded in the explosions.
Social media has been flooded with pictures of exploded gadgets like solar panels, fingerprint readers and other devices.
Lebanon Struck by Second Wave of Explosions
Israel and Mossad have been accused of carrying out highly sophisticated low-scale explosions targeting walkie-talkies and pagers in particular used for communications by Hezbollah members.
The members of Hezbollah groups numbering in thousands were targeted in what is described as a new form of attack . The meticulously planned attacks killed over 32 people in two waves of explosions and injured 2700 people, some of them critically. Most of the victims either lost their eyes or arms.
The Ministry of Public Health of Lebanon stated,
“all citizens who own wireless communication devices stay away from them.”
It is not clear if the solar panel explosions were linked to the suspected Mossad-orchestrated blasts in Beirut.
The NNA report from Lebabon’s Zahrani read,
“A girl from the town of Al-Marwaniyah was injured as a result of the explosion of the solar energy system in her family’s home”
The walkie talkie was manufactured by Japan’s Icom and the company said it is investigating the facts regarding news reports that two-way radio devices carrying its logo after Lebanon blasts. he hand held radios used by Hezbollah members exploded on Wednesday and most of the sets showed labels with “ICOM” and “Made in Japan.”
Icom in a statement stated,
“Icom would release updated information on the matter as it becomes available on its website.”
Icom which is the manufacturer of these devices has also stated that production of devices used in Lebanon blasts was discontinued in 2014.
Information about the explosions are trickling in and several blasts have been reported in the southern suburbs of Beirut as well as in the southern city of Tyre on Wednesday afternoon. Images posted on social media showed automobiles on fire and smoke billowing from residential areas with reports of explosions in walkie-talkie radios, mobile phones, laptops and even some solar energy systems..
Al Jazeera correspondent Ali Hashem reported,
“There have been several blasts across southern Lebanon and Beirut southern suburbs … in walkie-talkies and not pagers. Probably we are witnessing another wave, … really concerning given that yesterday’s incident already overwhelmed the whole health sector,”
