The Statesville Police Department has received numerous reports about a phone scam where callers are claiming to be Officer Hayes or Lt. Hampton. The scammer says you missed jury duty and must pay a fine or a warrant will be issued for your arrest.
Statesville Police will never ask for payment over the phone. If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately and do not provide any personal information or payment.
