‘I’m unemployable’: Tbo Touch opens up about his working relationship with SABC [video]

Celebrated radio personality Tbo Touch set social media abuzz after opening up about his working relationship with the SABC during his recent podcast interview with L-Tido.

With an illustrious career spanning years, he has quickly become one of the most sought-after on-air hosts in South Africa.

TBO TOUCH: ‘I’M A SERVICE PROVIDER TO THE SABC, NOT AN EMPLOYEE’

The renowned Metro FM broadcaster pulled a shocker when he revealed his working relationship with the SABC.

While speaking with L-Tido, Tbo Touch made it known that he was unemployable; hence, broadcasters could only afford to offer him contracts.

The muso went on to reveal that he was a service provider to the SABC rather than an employee.

Tbo Touch revealed that he is not affected by many of the problems employees encounter, like warnings, because he is on contract as a service provider.

Tbo Touch said, “I’m unemployable. I’m a service provider to the SABC, not an employee.” He added, “They don’t have to take me through a final warning. I’m not employed – I’m on a contract.”

He revealed that he is doing business with the SABC and is happy with his second dance with the public broadcaster.

Since it was posted on the Internet, the now-viral clip from his interview has undoubtedly gained thousands of comments and reactions. Fans were quick to flood social media feeds with their two cents.

However, during the interview, Tbo Touch also revealed that during his first contract with the station, he generated 40% of the annual revenue, which was around R500 million in 2016.

His show alone reportedly made over R200 million in revenue annually.

MAKING HEADLINES

Many find it puzzling that Tbo Touch conversed with Def Jam President Jay-Z when he was only 19.  His first job slot was hosting Metro FM Live in New York.

However, a few years later, he brought some of the world’s A-listers to South Africa, including Floyd Mayweather, for a radio interview.

In 2016, he left the station. Rumour has it that Tbo Touch left after having a fallout with the station’s manager.

However, his exit was bad for business, as the station lost several million-dollar advertisement deals due to it.

In 2022, the public broadcaster tagged the muso along for a second dance. Against his return, it was reported that he was allegedly getting R480 000 per month.

However, against the news, SABC downplayed the alleged salary.
