I wore a £27 thrifted wedding dress on my big day – everyone says I made a huge error with the alteration but I loved it

A BRIDE received backlash after altering the vintage wedding gown she found in her sister’s closet.

The woman made a minor change to the style but people told her it looked better before.

In her viral video, TikTok user Emma Frances (@emmafranceslev) revealed that she accidentally came across the look while trying on family wedding dresses.

She explained that her sister had thrifted the vintage gown for £27 to wear for a photo shoot.

Emma spotted the dress while trying on her ones belonging to her mum and grandmother.

The TikToker tried on the look out of curiousity and was shocked by how much she liked it.

“Wait, if I add more structure, I’m not kidding, this is exactly like what I was thinking,” she said.

Emma pointed out that the dress had all the elements she had been hoping for, including a drop waist, pearls, delicate lace detailing, and a midi length.

She explained that she would have to add boning to the bodice to give the look more structure.

However, it was a temporary alteration that caused a stir with her viewers.

Emma revealed that the flouncy off-the-shoulder sleeves were not her style.

She decided to have them tucked into the bodice by a seamstress to create a sleeveless appearance.

While this alteration was made with her sister’s blessing and could easily be undone, TikTok users were less than impressed with the move.

“Are you KIDDING ME? The sleeves were the BEST PART,” said one follower.

“I think the sleeves were so gorgeous and added to the dress,” wrote another TikToker.

“Honestly without the sleeves it looks like a cute dress but nothing wedding about it. The sleeves help give it that push into wedding dress category,” pointed out a third person.

“The sleeves were the moment,” commented another viewer.
