The Sandman is the fantasy series based on the famous DC comic book series by Neil Gaiman.

It follows the story of Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) who is the personification of dreams and nightmares.

He is part of the Endless family of cosmic beings and was initially captured in 1916 in occult ritual.

But after being held captive for 106 years, he escapes back into the world and he wants to restore order back in his realm.

After the Netflix series made its debut in August 2022, the streamer later gave the green light for a follow up in November of that year.

Over a year later, fans have received their first look at the upcoming second set of episodes where many more characters will be introduced.

Giving a preview at what fans can expect, screenwriter Allan Heinberg explained: “He’s determined to go back and account for his behaviour in the past

“The Sandman itself as a comic book is a sort of anthology that has a core narrative at its centre, [but] our show really is about the story of Dream.”

He added: “Every decision that we’ve made story-wise in season 2 has been to follow Dream’s story.”

Killing Eve star Kirby Howell-Baptiste also appeared in the new feature as she reprises her role as Death.

Completing the Endless family are Mason Alexander Park who will star as Desire and Donna Preston who will once again play Despair.

However, new characters have been teased by Tom, who explained: “I think one of the most thrilling things about this season is, for the first time, to have the siblings of the Endless together in one room and to see this extraordinary family exist on screen together.”

Both the actor and the writer teased that a huge banquet scene would be the centrepice of the new episodes.

Mary Queen Of Scots actor Adrian Lester will join the star-studded cast as Destiny.

Meanwhile, Esmé Creed-Miles and Barry Sloane will play Delirium and The Prodigal respectively.

Other new stars to play popular characters include The Crown‘s Freddie Fox as Loki, Laurence O’Fuarain as Thor, and Clive Russell who will portray Odin.
