The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that occurred early Wednesday (September 18) in Alexander County. The deceased is 39-year-old Vanessa Shea Lail of Granite Falls
At about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Highway Patrol responded to the scene of the accident on Icard Ridge Road near Bethlehem School Road. A 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Ms. Lail was northbound on Icard Ridge Road when the driver lost control, crossed the center-line, drove off the left side of the road, struck a ditch, and overturned. Ms. Lail was transported by E.M.S. to Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory where she succumbed to her injuries.
The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing circumstance in the collision. During the on-scene investigation, Icard Ridge Road was closed in the area for approximately two hours.
