Fountain PD reports attempted armed robbery turned OIS

(FOUNTAIN, Colo.) — The Fountain Police Department (FPD) reported that just before 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, officers responded to a call about an armed robbery that ended in an officer-involved shooting (OIS) in which the suspect was seriously injured.

According to FPD, officers were dispatched to the Walgreens located at 7910 Fountain Mesa Road for a report of a robbery where the suspect had threatened employees with a gun and a bomb. The man allegedly took some items and ran towards the Lowe’s shopping center.

FPD said officers found the suspect in the Chase Bank parking lot and attempted to arrest him. Two officers fired at least one round each, hitting the suspect, who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. One officer was also hospitalized with minor injuries.

According to FDP policy, both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave while the Colorado Springs Police Department investigates.
