Famous Colorado hotel ranked as one of the most haunted in the U.S.

(ESTES PARK, Colo.) — A famous Colorado hotel was recently named as one of the most haunted in the U.S. after a recent study by the Airport Parking Reservations team at LAX.

Based on the team’s research, it chose 13 locations across the nation as guests look to book their stays during the Halloween season.

The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, which was made famous when Stephen King visited the location in 1974, ranked second on the list, with Hotel Provincial in New Orleans taking the top spot.

The Stanley Hotel was built in 1903 by Freelan Oscar Stanley and initially served as a guest house for Stanley’s friends while he was diagnosed with tuberculosis.

The hotel took off as a tourist destination when King stayed at the hotel on the last day of the spooky season in October. King’s experiences at the hotel influenced his best-selling book “The Shining.”

The hotel now serves as a getaway for guests all year long and is known for its paranormal activity, especially room 217, where King stayed and several rooms on the 4th floor. Many guests have claimed to have seen unusual figures, heard children running down the halls, and music playing in rooms with no one inside them.

The Crescent Hotel in Arkansas, Hotel Chelsea in New York, and The Carolina Inn in North Carolina rounded out the top five.
