David Schwimmer revealed that the late Dame Elizabeth Taylor once gave her mother Arlene Coleman-Schwimmer a special ‘bonus gift’ after one of her seven divorces.

The 83-year-old “big, powerful divorce lawyer” had idolized the two-time Oscar winner and dreamed of becoming an actress as a child, before eventually graduating from Brooklyn Law School and joining the California State Bar from 1969.

“Ultimately, she was representing Elizabeth Taylor, her childhood idol Elizabeth Taylor,” the 57-year-old Friends alumna said on Monday Origin with Cush Jumbo podcasting.

‘Because she did so well for [her]Elizabeth gave her one of her own personal necklaces as a sort of little extra to my mother.’

David didn’t mention any names, but Arlene handled either Elizabeth’s divorces from her fifth/sixth husbands, actor Richard Burton (twice in 1974 and 1976), her seventh husband, Senator John Warner (1982), or her eighth husband, construction worker Larry Fortensky (1996).

The only person Taylor did not divorce was her third husband, producer Mike Todd, who died at age 50 when his private jet “The Liz” crashed in 1958.

The AIDS activist died in 2011 at the age of 79 from congestive heart failure.

Coleman-Schwimmer – who retired from law in 2001 – was described by LA Times Magazine in 1988 as “a street fighter with the tenacity of a pit bull.”

“You don’t want to mess with her,” Schwimmer noted.

“She’s one of the most brilliant and can be quite intimidating… I mean, you don’t mess with her. On the other hand, she’s the warmest, most loving, generous, cheerful, she’s the glue of the whole family.”

The three-time Emmy nominee continued, “She never forgets anyone’s birthday or occasion. She’s that kind of person. So she’s a very warm, joyful, happy person — lover of the arts, all the arts.”

When asked if he shares those traits, David admitted, “Yeah, I’m very much like that. People don’t see that side of me.”

Schwimmer is the father of a 13-year-old daughter, Cleo Buckman Schwimmer, from his six-year marriage to English artist Zoë Buckman, which ended in 2017.

The Little Death actor will soon play the role of recently divorced father Anthony in the second season of the Disney+ horror series Goosebumps.
