CSPD: Alleged threat to school not credible, believed to be hoax

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Tuesday night, Sept. 17, and Wednesday morning, Sept. 18, FOX21 News received reports from concerned parents about a possible threat of a school shooting at Rampart High School in Colorado Springs.

On both days, FOX21 received a photo from concerned parents of a text message allegedly threatening a school that has been spreading around social media.

FOX21 reached out to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), which told FOX21, that officers are aware of the reports but are reassuring the public that there is no credible threat to the school and that officers are taking the reports seriously and continue to investigate.

CSPD officials told FOX21, that the photo parents sent to our newsroom, appears to be a hoax that has been spreading across the country, and that hoaxes like this appear for a few weeks after a high-profile incident such as the recent shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia.

CSPD said that even though the alleged threats may be tied to a hoax, every threat is taken seriously and investigated.

FOX21 also reached out to Academy District 20 (ASD20), which reaffirmed the threats are not credible and that communication has been sent to parents.

FOX21 is awaiting further comment from the school district and will update this article once we learn more.
