JACKSON, MS. – Chalmers Davis, a Jackson native, passed away on September 14 at 73. Davis recorded and toured with Little Richard for 24 years until he announced his retirement in September 2013.

The cause of death has not yet been released.

Davis was a noted musician both locally and nationally, having toured with Little Richard for 24 years as his keyboard player. He played alongside another Vicksburg legend, Mark Doyle.

Davis was one of the founding members of the critically acclaimed group “The Shooters”. The band recorded 2 albums, The Shooters and Solid as a Rock.

In his lifetime, he toured with dozens of popular artists including Johnny Cash, Bobby Rush, and Bill Ellis. He performed on the Johnny Cash Christmas Special, the Today Show, and the HBO Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Dedication.

Davis also owned Chazmosis Music Publishing and his studio, Windy Ridge Music.

In June 2012, he became the pianist/keyboardist of the Worship Arts Ministry at Broadmoor Baptist Church.

Davis received the Jazz Ambassador Award by the Mississippi Jazz Foundation in 2014.

Throughout his musical career, Davis traveled to all 50 U.S. states. Internationally, he went to Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Davis was a graduate of the University of Northern Alabama with a degree in commercial music.
