Sonia (Natalie Cassidy), visited and cared for the comatose woman, before her partner smothered her with a pillow.

She previously handled the bedding in an unsuspecting effort to make Debbie comfortable, meaning her DNA was on the murder weapon.

Reiss killed his former partner due to his money woes after he attempted to defraud Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean).

However, he came up with a false alibi, meaning that Sonia became the prime suspect for the police.

In upcoming episodes, the couple will struggle as they are kept apart as Sonia was taken to prison.

The gossips of Albert Square will have a field day as they speculate about Sonia’s potential guilt in the case.

Teddy piles on the pressure as he forced Reiss to work for him, saying he needs his accounting books back for his ex’s solicitor.

If he meets the deadline he will offer to help him to prove Sonia’s innocence in return.

A journalist will come snooping and accosts Reiss for an interview, for which he agrees.

He will be very pleased with the chat as he thinks that the journalist will help to cast doubt over her guilt.

But Sonia will receive more support from the square as Kim (Tameka Empson) changes her mind over the case.

She decides to publicly support Sonia in her effort to prove her innocence.

Alfie Moon (Shane Ritchie) will pitch up with a box of T-shirts emblazoned with the slogan, ‘Save Our Sonia’.

But Debbie’s father Hugh (Michael Bertenshaw) will dash Reiss’ hopes as he shows up in Walford, begging the real killer to sign the paperwork to release Debbie’s body.

Sonia Fowler’s biggest EastEnders storylines

Sonia Fowler has featured in EastEnders since 1993, and after starring in thousands of episodes, has been featured in storylines ranging from teenage pregnancy to a cancer scare. Here are some of her biggest.

  • Teen Pregnancy and Birth of Chloe Jackson (1999-2000)
Sonia discovered she was pregnant at the age of 15. Viewers were shocked by the sudden birth, as the teen went into labour without even realising she was pregnant. Martin Fowler turned out to be Chloe’s father. Sonia initially decided to give the girl up for adoption.
  • Death of her boyfriend (2002)
Sonia’s boyfriend, Jamie Mitchell, was hit by a car driven by her baby’s father. Jamie had just bought an engagement ring for his girlfriend before being struck down by the thoughtless Martin, who was texting while driving. Although the Jamie was rushed to hospital, docs said his liver was irreparably damaged, and he ended up dying with Sonia by his side.
  • Marriage to Martin Fowler and Family Tensions (2004-2007)
In a shock twist Sonia went on to marry the man responsible for her previous boyfriend’s death. Their relationship was marred by conflicts and infidelity, and they went on to split up after just three years. At one point in their marriage Sonia was taken hostage by Sarah Cairns, who became obsessed with Martin after he flirted with her during a drunken night out. The couple went through struggles again when the adoptive parents of their daughter were killed in a car crash, leaving them responsible for Rebecca. Because of the tension in their relationship Sonia ended up cheating on her husband with one of her co-workers, nurse Naomi Julien.
  • Custody Battle for Rebecca (2005-2007)
Baby Chloe, who was renamed Rebecca, was kidnapped by her mum early in life before being returned to her adoptive parents. After Neil and Sue Miller died they awarded Martin full custody of the child because of Sonia’s extra-marital affair. The mum was left distraught to be cut out of her daughter’s life.
  • Gastric Band Surgery and Weight Struggles (2014-2015)
Sonia became insecure about her weight and arranged to have a secret gastric band surgery in Bulgaria. She later collapsed at an exercise class after suffering complications from the operation.
  • Discovery of Bex’s Suicide Attempt (2019)
Sonia’s daughter Rebecca tried to take her own life in a heartbreaking storyline which left viewers in tears. She found Bex unconscious after taking an overdose, and was devastated. Sonia blamed herself for pushing her daughter to breaking point, as she had tried to force her into going to Oxford despite Bex saying she didn’t feel ready for university.

Back in 2022, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story took Netflix by storm, clocking up millions of views in a matter of days.

Now the team behind that series has turned their attention to two other notorious American killers, Lyle and Erik Menendez.

In 1989, these two brothers fatally shot their parents at their Beverly Hills home, claiming when the case went to trial that they did it to end years of emotional, physical and sexual abuse.

The prosecution, however, argued that the Lyle and Erik had simply been after their parents’ money.

The shocking story is retold in this new drama starring Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as parents José and Kitty, and Cooper Koch and Nicholas Chavez as Erik and Lyle. Chilling.

REALITY | Available from Tuesday

Mediums – are they really able to communicate with the dead? Or are they, at best, clever entertainers, and at worst, manipulative charlatans?

Tyler Henry, clairvoyant medium to the stars, claims to be the real deal.

We’ll get to decide for ourselves this week with the start of his eight-episode series in which the 28 year old gives emotional readings for celebrity guests – live.

“I am super humbled and grateful for the opportunity,” says Tyler. “I know the scepticism that comes with mediums – and this project will let me lean into that in an honest and unedited way, demonstrating high-stakes readings in real time.

“My goal is for this live format to open some minds and change some lives.”

Whether you’re a believer or a sceptic, it sounds certain to be intriguing.

Quirky and compelling wrestling drama[/caption]

DRAMA | Available from Thursday

If you’re still mourning the end of Glow – the smart and sharp comedy-drama about a group of female wrestlers in 80s California – you’re definitely going to want to step into the ring with The Queen Of Villains.

This five-part series whisks us to Japan in the 1970s and 80s to tell the colourful story of real-life female wrestler Dump Matsumoto (Yuriyan Retriever).

An unlikely star, Matsumoto became the sport’s pantomime villain, pitched against her sworn rivals, the so-called ‘Crush Gals’ – a glamorous tag team comprising Chigusa Nagayo and Lioness Asuka.

The series explains how the Dump went from a kind and sensitive little girl to one of the most notorious figures in Japanese sport and pop culture.

A quirky but compelling drama, complete with impressive, full-on wrestling sequences.

A Very Royal Scandal

Michael Sheen and Ruth Wilson star in A Very Royal Scandal[/caption]

DRAMA | Available from Thursday

Wait a moment. Hasn’t there just been a drama based on Prince Andrew’s infamous Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis, starring Rufus Sewell and Gillian Anderson?

Yes, there has: Netflix’s Scoop won plenty of plaudits earlier in the year for its gripping and uncanny recreation of that explosive 2019 interview.

But, just like tourist buses driving past Buckingham Palace, here comes another.

A Very Royal Scandal stars Ruth Wilson as Emily and Michael Sheen as the Prince, and covers the events leading up to the interview, the chat itself, in which Andrew addressed the accusations about his links to Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Giuffre, and the headline-grabbing fallout.

And whereas Scoop was inspired by the experiences of journalist Sam McAlister, who helped secure the royal interview for Newsnight, this retelling is based on Emily’s own viewpoint – indeed, she serves as an executive producer on the three-part series.

It’s predictably compelling stuff – oh, and can Michael Sheen do a decent impression of Andrew? No sweat.

Agatha All Along

Fantasy | Available from Wednesday

Kathryn Hahn returns as the character Agatha Harkness[/caption]

There has been loads of fun, imaginative and action-packed TV shows born out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but 2021’s WandaVision is definitely one of the best.

In that series – and this is something of a spoiler – the main villain is witch-in-disguise Agatha Harkness, played with wicked relish by Kathryn Hahn.

Now she’s got her own spin-off series, which picks up after the events of WandaVision and finds Agatha stripped of her magical powers and trapped in the suburban town of Westview.

Desperate to regain her abilities, she escapes with the help of a youngster named Teen (Joe Locke) and, together with a ragtag coven, they set out on the Witches’ Road – a hazardous, trial-laden journey that, if completed, will return what Agatha is missing.

Featuring a bewitching cast – the fabulously over-the-top Aubrey Plaza shines as warrior witch Rio – this is Marvel at its deliciously dark, gothic best.

Is it too early to be getting in the Halloween spirit?

As we return to the Mafia action, charismatic Dwight (Sylvester) and his crew continue to expand their empire and influence in Tulsa.

But before they can start getting too comfortable in the Oklahoma backwater, it becomes clear that others want a piece of their action – namely the Kansas City mob and a ruthless local businessman.

And if that wasn’t enough, Dwight still has some unfinished business with his past contacts in New York.

Can this hard-bitten but likeable mobster find a way to keep his own head above water, while protecting his family and crew?

The rebooted Frasier is returning for a second season

While the first series of the freshly rebooted Frasier couldn’t match up to the majesty of the original 90s run – few things can – there was still enough of the old magic to keep fans happy.

Now it’s back for a second series, featuring Kelsey Grammer, of course, and the same supporting cast, including British sitcom legend Nicholas Lyndhurst as Frasier’s eccentric pal Alan.

The new batch of episodes will also feature regular appearances from much-loved original cast member Peri Gilpin, aka Frasier’s old producer Roz, who suddenly returned in the final episode of the reboot’s first series.

Expect more wit, wisdom and increasingly farcical situations as Frasier tries to navigate his new life in Boston.

Three part documentary delving into the ‘Hair Metal’ category[/caption]

Even if you’re not familiar with the term ‘Hair Metal’, you’re likely to have heard of the rock bands who fell into that category: hello, Def Leppard, Skid Row, Poison and Guns N’ Roses, to name just a few.

For these bands, back in the 80s, it was all about big hair, big songs, tight outfits and outrageous antics, both on and off stage.

This brilliant three-part documentary series tells the warts ’n’ all story of Hair Metal’s most provocative and controversial acts, and the drugs, sex and rock ’n’ roll-fuelled mischief they got up to during the scene’s high-living heyday.

Boasting interviews with some of the scene’s most famous names, including Poison’s Bret Michaels and Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt, expect wild, wickedly funny tales of shocking excess – and more hairspray than in an Elnett factory.

‘I have delivered here,’ says Erik Ten Hag as Man Utd boss faces pressure following miserable international break

ERIK TEN HAG admits he is under pressure – despite a fresh vote of confidence from Manchester United’s top brass.

The Dutch boss saved his job by winning the FA Cup in May and was given a new deal.

Defiant Erik ten Hag says he has delivered success at Man Utd[/caption]

But defeat at Southampton today would mean United losing three Premier League games in a row for the first time since 2015.

Asked about support from upstairs, Ten Hag said: “In football you have to win, you have to deliver, that’s clear. As I’ve said, I have delivered here.

It’s good the new leadership acknowledge this and says this, we are working together to be more successful.

“We have higher targets than we’ve already achieved.”

United finished eighth last term and started this season with two defeats from their first three, including a 3-0 walloping by Liverpool two weeks ago.

But new chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Dan Ashworth backed Ten Hag during the international break.

Berrada said: “Do we still believe in Erik? Absolutely,

“We think Erik is the right coach for us and we’re fully backing him.”

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

But even the international break has not given Ten Hag a chance to get out the limelight.

He has had a miserable week off, with Teddy Sheringham saying he will be axed by Christmas and Cristiano Ronaldo firing shots at him.

New signing Matthijs de Ligt was at fault for several goals conceded by Holland in their two games.

And the club were unable to shift Antony amid late loan interest from Turkey.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag insists United are in a transition period.

New chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made big changes behind-the-scenes, while five new players have been brought during the summer.

Ten Hag, 54, added: “It’s not only to do with me, nobody can deny in these last eight or nine months a lot has happened to this club.

“A new leadership team, new structure and ownership structure. It’s a huge turnaround I would say.”

Ten Hag is also dealing with huge injury problems, with Leny Yoro, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund out.

But left-back Tyrell Malacia, 25, is back in training after missing all of last season with a knee injury.

He said: “We want to motivate him to return, but it’s not so easy when you are so long away.

“He’s working very hard and making big steps.”

Nine managers Man Utd considered before keeping Erik ten Hag

ERIK TEN HAG appears to be safe as Man Utd manager, but the Dutchman edged dangerously close to the sack.

Here are nine managers Red Devils chiefs are reported to have considered for the job and what allegedly happened with each.

Gareth Southgate

Enjoys plenty of support among Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos chiefs but made clear he wouldn’t talk to any clubs until after Euro 2024. There is yet to be any suggestion that contact was made with the England boss.

Kieran McKenna

Talks were opened with McKenna’s representatives before the FA Cup final, but the former Man Utd coach opted to sign a new deal with Ipswich after Ten Hag’s Wembley win.

Roberto De Zerbi

Allegedly sounded out before the FA Cup final with salary expectations discussed. But Ineos chiefs concluded ex-Brighton boss was not the right fit for the project.

Thomas Frank

Brentford boss met Man Utd representatives the day before the FA Cup final. The Dane also dined with Ratcliffe, Roy Hodgson and Frank Lampard at the launch of a new Ineos car in February.

Marco Silva

Fulham boss reportedly met Man Utd representatives face-to-face two days before the FA Cup final, around the same time as Ten Hag was conducting his press conference.

Mauricio Pochettino

Fell out of Man Utd’s thinking in the first week of June, despite being a favourite of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Thomas Tuchel

Made a very strong impression and came across well during a Monaco meeting. Personal terms were discussed before the ex-Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss decided to step back from the process.

Ruben Amorim

Sporting boss was discussed by the Man Utd hierarchy but did not make the final reckoning.

Roberto Martinez

Portugal manager was considered in the early stages.

Will Lauren ever be able to be safely with Frankie again?[/caption]

This came as a result of his evil father Joel Deering who spiked Lauren with abortion pills in an attempt to get rid of the baby.

Lauren went on to give birth to Frankie but he was left needing round the clock care.

During his first few weeks, the truth about Lauren’s fractious relationship with Joel and his abusive ways came to light with the crumbling teen being backed by Joel’s ex Dee-Dee and police officer Swain.

But with Joel showing no backing down in his reign of terror, he made shock claims of his own against Lauren as a form of damage limitation.

He claimed that Lauren got the pills of her own accord which led to her being placed under investigation by social services and unable to be allowed alone with Frankie.

In upcoming scenes, Lauren will be left longing to be with her son more than ever amid a devastating health crisis.

Lauren will be enjoying some down time on a breakfast catch-up with Max Turner but is soon shook to the core when she gets a call from Weatherfield General.

The hospital inform her she needs to come quick amid a shock turn in Frankie’s ailing health.

Upon her arrival, it is confirmed that Frankie has suffered a seizure.

Doctors tell Lauren that she cannot see the tot as he has been whisked away for an emergency scan.

Amidst the turmoil, Lauren gets summoned for a meeting with social services.

Accompanied by Dee-Dee, Lauren is told that as they have decided to continue looking into their investigations, she will not be able to spend any more time alone with Frankie.

Instead, she will have to be accompanied by a professional at all times and thus limiting her contact with him.

How will Lauren cope with the news on top of hearing about Frankie’s ill state?

Most complained about soap storylines

Over the years, all three of the main soaps have featured plots that have had even die-hard fans reaching for their phones and laptops so they can get in touch with Ofcom and complain. Here are just some of the most scandalous…

  • EastEnders baby theft: 13,400 Ofcom complaints – Back in 2011, EastEnders was flooded with complaints when Ronnie Branning (RIP) swapped her baby for the dead son of Kat Moon. The storyline drew the most number of objections in the soap’s long history and saw it roundly criticised by campaigners – with 13,400 flying in over the course of the storyline. Some viewers called it “distressing” and “horrific” but Ofcom ruled the scenes were not “unduly disturbing”.
  • Emmerdale dog-napping: 550 Ofcom complaints – Back in 2016, Ross Barton and Charity Dingle came up with a plan to steal a dog and hold it ransom – but viewers didn’t like it one bit. The nation’s pet owners rose up, insisting the storyline would encourage copycats (not to mention copydogs). Complaints over two episodes totalled a staggering 550 and soap writers quickly learnt you don’t mess with animal-lovers.
  • Coronation Street double murder: 546 Ofcom complaints – Marginally less people complained about a gruesome double murder than objected to a dog-napping plot when Pat Phelan was at the centre of a spate of killings. First he forced Andy Carver to shoot dead Vinny Ashford – and then Pat killed Andy. All the bloodshed back in 2017 proved to be too much for some viewers, who lodged complaints in vast numbers about the “violent scenes”.

THIS is the moment a man on trial for drugging his wife and recruiting strangers to rape her was caught upskirting women in a supermarket.

Dominique Pélicot is accused of recruiting men online to assault his wife repeatedly over 10 years while snapping her own daughter and daughters-in-law naked
Dominique Pelicot (C) who confessed to recruiting men to rape his sedated wife

Cops would later find horrific footage on his devices of his wife – as he admitted to drugging and letting some 72 strangers rape her in a case that has shocked the country.

The French OAP and some 50 others could be thrown behind bars for up to 20 years, having been charged with the “aggravated rape” of Gisele.

Now, Paris Match magazine has published disturbing video of Pelicot being caught in a supermarket in Carpentras four years ago.

Filmed on September 12 2020, it shows the white haired grandfather wearing a mask as he places a camera below the skirts of victims in the Leclerc store.

A security guard confronts him as one woman is heard saying “No, no, no,” after four shoppers complained.

Pelicot, who is dressed in red shorts and a grey T-shirt, is told “not to move” because the police are on their way.

He is told that he is “disgusting” and that women are being asked to testify against him to the authorities.

Pelicot is also ordered not to erase the videos while he waits for police to arrive.

He was originally fined €100 – around £85 – for upskirting, as a part of a plea-bargaining process, before detectives found more incriminating images on his devices.

It was while in custody that he told police about a hard drive, hidden under a printer at his home in Mazan, near Avignon, which contained a file labelled “abuses”.

It included the nicknames and phone numbers of alleged rapists, together with some 3,800 photos and videos of his wife Gisele Pelicot, 71, being raped between 2011 and 2020.

Detectives have listed a total of 92 rapes committed by 72 men, 51 of whom have been identified aged between 26 and 73.

Pelicot’s sex ring involved advertising for “sex partners” on an online forum called “Without Her Knowing” on the coco.fr site, which has since been shut down.

PElicot is said to have sedated his wife by putting Temesta – a powerful anxiolytic – into her dinners.

The other alleged rapists involved in the case include civil servants, ambulance workers, soldiers, prison guards, nurses, a journalist, a municipal councillor and truck drivers.

Fourteen of the other defendants have admitted rape, while the rest deny any wrongdoing.

Last week, Pelicot’s legal team insisted he was not well enough to give evidence because of abdominal pain and a suspected bladder infection.

He briefly appeared in court on Wednesday morning, but defence barrister Beatrice Zavarro said on Thursday that he was unwell and would not be showing up.

Pelicot has been vomiting and fainting in his prison cell, where he has been on remand since 2020, in between visits to hospital for treatment and tests.

Ms Zavarro’s submissions were accepted by Roger Arata, the trial judge, who said: “He requires medical treatment and will be unable to attend court for the rest of this week at least.”

Pelicot’s own daughter, Caroline Darian, 46, described him in court as “one of the greatest sexual predators” of recent years.

She said he secretely photographed her in the nude, along with her two sister-in-laws.

In a separate case, Pelicot has been charged with raping and murdering a 23-year-old estate agent in Paris in 1991.

He has admitted one attempted rape in 1999, after DNA testing proved a case against him.

The Avignon aggravated rape case involving his ex-wife Gisele is due to last until December 21.
