FOOTIE star Raheem Sterling was baptised in a tank of water as he publicly declared his faith in God — and “cleansed” himself of past sins.
The England forward, 29, was filmed taking the plunge dressed in a white gown, with a congregation singing gospel songs.
The Jamaica-born forward, on loan at Arsenal from Chelsea, was fully immersed by two church elders at last weekend’s ceremony at a London Caribbean Baptist church.
A source close to the star said: “Raheem said a few words which were incredibly powerful and moving.
He understood this was a public declaration of his faith and an opportunity to cleanse himself of any ego, or bad habits of the past.”

CHRISTOPHER NKUNKU saved the day for Enzo Mareca’s men, coming on as a late substitute to win the game for Chelsea.
Chelsea may consider themselves lucky to be leaving the south coast with all three points, however.

Enzo Maresca wasn’t able to get his team ticking at the Vitality as he continues to try and get his tactical message across.
One message he may have for his players is “don’t clatter into the opposition in the box” – a message Robert Sanchez seemingly ignored in the first half.
The Spanish shot-stopper was done by Evanilson when Bournemouth’s Brazilian flicked the ball over him in the box.
Sanchez had nowhere to go and smashed into the summer arrival like a freight train, giving referee Anthony Taylor no choice but to point to the spot and dish out a yellow card.
But the Chelsea gloveman made amends for his mistake, diving low to his side to stop Evanilson’s resulting spot kick and keep the game scoreless.
Most teams are able to kick on after a penalty save – as was shown by Man Utd against Southampton earlier today – but not Chelsea.
They continued to face wave after wave of attack from the Cherries until they could get in at half time.
The second half was better from Maresca’s men with a promising cameo from deadline day arrival Jadon Sancho.
And it was he who eventually set up substitute Christopher Nkunku off the bench to snatch all three points for Chelsea.

EVERTON boss Sean Dyche will go for old favourite Nick Pope if Jordan Pickford’s form does not improve soon.
Toffees keeper Pickford’s place is on the line and Dyche will monitor Newcastle’s Pope as a potential replacement in the coming months before a possible swoop in the January window.

Dyche could being in Newcastle keeper Nick Pope[/caption]
England No 1 Pickford, 30, is now under scrutiny and massive pressure at Goodison Park where gaffer Dyche has been unhappy with his displays.
Pickford joined Everton from Sunderland for £30million in 2017 but his long reign may come to an end as the manager is looking to shake the Three Lions star up after his return from the Euros.
Dyche knows Pope well as he had him at Burnley and his name is often dropped when he criticises Pickford.
Pope, 32, could be available from Toon, who see Burnley’s James Trafford, 21, as an ideal long-term signing and future No 1.
Dyche is in the mood for a change and could even surprisingly promote from within his ranks in the coming weeks.
Sub stopper Joao Virginia, 24, or even 37-year-old veteran Asmir Begovic will get a chance in the Carabao Cup against Southampton on Tuesday and push their claims for a start in the Prem.
Pickford has now conceded 13 goals in four Premier League appearances this following Everton’s 3-2 loss to Aston Villa today.
The former Black Cats shot-stopper has made 70 appearances for the England national team.

It’s widely accepted that Pickford has been outstanding for England, rarely faltering and representing to Three Lions at two World Cups and two European Championships.
Everton are hoping they can change their fortunes on the pitch with the Toffees rock bottom of the table after losing all four of their opening Prem games.

STRICTLY fans have been left furious after they realised three pros have been ‘ditched’ in the new series.
The BBC One series returned on Saturday night with a glittering launch show.
Strictly fans have been left furious after they realised three pros have been ‘ditched’ in the new series[/caption]
15 celebs were paired up on tonight’s launch shows[/caption]
Carlos Gu has not been given a celeb partner this year[/caption]
It saw the 15 new celebrities paired up with a professional partner.
However, by the end of the programme, Strictly fans realised three of their favourites had been left without a celeb.
Michelle Tsiakkas was given her first ever celebrity – having been paired with EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick – returning pro Aljaž Škorjanec was also given a partner in the form of Love Island‘s Tasha Ghouri.
But that meant Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley and Kai Widdrington were not given a celebrity to train.
This is despite the fact that Carlos and Kai have been finalists in the past, and Lauren won a legion of fans last year when paired with Krishnan Guru-Murthy.
Strictly fans were quick to share their fury on X, with one writing: “Have just been ranting about this for the last 20 minutes. Who’s idea was it to ditch Carlos, Lauren and Kai?!?”
Another raged: “I will be writing incredibly strongly worded letters about the benching of Lauren and Carlos. WHO’S BAD IDEA WAS THAT?”
A third added: “Don’t get me wrong, I love Aljaz, but what was the point of bringing him back if it means great pros like Kai and Carlos are left without a partner? I’m especially gutted that we’re not going to see Carlos.”
Meanwhile a fourth shared: “I’m really sad that Lauren, Kai and Carlos have been benched though…someone has to be but not necessarily who I would have chosen if I’m honest.”
They weren’t alone with their anger, as a fellow Strictly viewer tweeted: “WHO thought it was a good idea to bench Kai, Carlos and Lauren!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not cool.”
Kai has already broken his silence on not having a partner this year, having previously danced with AJ Odudu, Kaye Adams and most recently, Angela Rippon.
He told the Daily Star: “Everyone wants to get a celebrity.
“Unfortunately it wasn’t my time this series. Two boys couldn’t have one this series and sadly I am one of them.
Who's confirmed for Strictly 2024?
WITH Strictly's 20th anniversary special airing in September, The Sun takes a look at which celebs have been confirmed for the new series:
And the likes of Towie star Pete Wicks, Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri and presenter Nick Knowles set the studio alight in a group dance at the end of the episode.
They are part of a 15-strong line-up who will compete to win the infamous Glitterball trophy as the contest celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
Though the majority of viewers rejoiced as the show opened with a 90s inspired intro followed by a dance to mark Amy Dowden’s return, others felt that it wasn’t as good as it had been in years gone by.
One suggested the celebrity cast should be cut down, and others demanded that bosses splash more money on the line-up.
They said: “Original #Strictly only had 8 contestants, 15 far too many, no reason not to have a shorter series run as no opposition! Still be v popular.”
Another moaned: “The budget was obviously cut when it came to #Strictly celebrities this year. The average panto has a better known cast!”
One more suggested “Have they slashed the budget for #Strictly this year? That intro was just one big green screen”.
Fans speculated that these concerns may have contributed to a more challenging environment for attracting female competitors, potentially leading to fewer women stepping onto the dancefloor this series.
The results of an internal investigation have yet to be announced following the departure of Graziano Di Prima and Giovanni Pernice.
BBC director Tim Davie has expressed regret over the scandal, stating, “I’m very sorry that anyone has had an experience on Strictly that hasn’t been wholly positive.”
