Luke-ing the Beast in the Eye: Morgan Tsvangirai’s epic speech on an epic day
Luke Batsirai Tamborinyoka: "MEMORY is a site of the struggle. Only in the rubric of yester-year memories can we trace where we have come from so that we use the lessons of the past to forge and sharpen future struggles on the anvil of a history that has been seriously reflected upon. Exactly 16 years ago to the day, on 15 September 2008, political leaders in Zimbabwe who had tenaciously rivalled for almost a decade turned the proverbial swords into plough shares in what became known as the Global Political Agreement (GPA) which poised our country for peace, growth and development. Superintended by the regional body SADC in the aftermath of a contested election in which then President Robert Mugabe had famously lost to his arch-rival Morgan Tsvangirai before engaging in retributive violence on a hapless electorate in a contrived bloody run-off poll, the GPA became a historic backdrop to the consummation of an inclusive government that was to give respite to a despondent nation. Today, especially to those of us who were his trusted lieutenants, all we can do is reminisce about this iconic patriot called Tsvangirai who won the March 29 2008 presidential election but still had the grace and humility to agree to serve in the junior position of Prime Minister for the sake of the nation he loved."

Luke Littler survives major wobble at World Series of Darts to beat Chris Dobey and reach semi-finals
LUKE LITTLER survived a major scare as he progressed into the semi-finals of the World Series of Darts.
Littler made it past Chris Dobey in the Amsterdam finals in a thrilling contest.
https://twitter.com/OfficialPDC/status/1835283752471162905 Dobey went dart for dart against Littler on 180s[/caption]Five 180s – three by Dobey and two by Littler – were hit in the opening five legs alone, which was a sign of things to come as they hit 19 180s overall.
Speaking ahead of his game against Dobey, Littler said: “Obviously, me and Chris, we’ve got the same management.
“We’ll sit together, we have a laugh and I’m sure it’ll be the same tomorrow.”
And they certainly did just that as they hit a seemingly endless number of 180s – with Littler grabbing 10 and Dobey 9.
Littler took a seemingly decisive three-leg lead over Dobey at 5-8, with countless 180s in tow for both.
However, Dobey pulled the score back to 7-8.
But Littler kept his nerve to then take the next two legs and see him through to the semi-finals.
The Nuke will take on the winner of Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen.
More to follow.

Major EastEnders star quits soap after two years – as show legend set to return
EASTENDERS star Navin Chowdhry has quit the BBC soap.
The actor, 53, who plays evil Nish Panesar, will leave the show in upcoming scenes, the Sun has revealed.
Navin Chowdhry has quit his role as evil Nish Panesar[/caption] Navin joined the soap in September 2022[/caption] The news comes as Ross Kemp is set to front a documentary on the soap’s 40th anniversary[/caption]The exact nature of his exit plot is being kept tightly under wraps but his character is currently dying of a heart condition and needs a transplant.
A show source said: “It’s not known if Nish will be killed off, even though his health is suffering, but expect the exit to be very impactful and dramatic.
“Navin has made quite the impact on the show in the two years he has been a part of it, especially as a key part of the huge Christmas storyline with The Six. He’ll be missed by cast, crew and viewers alike.”
The Sun has contacted a spokesperson for the soap for comment.
Navin joined the show in September 2022 as the ex husband of Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal).
He terrorised Suki after being released from prison, and was one of the favourites to die on Christmas Day as part of the mystery surrounding which male character would be bumped off.
In the end, while Nish was hit over the head with a bottle by Denise after he attacked Suki in the Vic, it was Keanu Taylor who met his maker at the hands of Linda Carter.
Since then, Nish has been trying to break up Suki and her girlfriend Eve, but has failed to do so.
He also recently attempted to frame Vinny for his own money laundering.
Prior to joining the BBC soap, Navin was best known for his role in Channel 4 drama Teachers, and Sky One detective spoof, A Touch of Cloth.
He has also starred in army series Our Girl and Appletv+ comedy, Trying.
Navin’s exit comes as The Sun revealed Ross Kemp will be returning to his roots by fronting a documentary about the soap’s 40th anniversary next February.
A source said: “Ross is joining in celebrations by hosting his own EastEnders documentary.
“He will interview stars past and present about why it is so good and how important it is. EastEnders will always have a special place in his heart and he’s really excited.”
Asked about a return to EastEnders last week on This Morning, he said: “I can tell you nothing.”
Ross first played hardman Grant Mitchell in Ross in 1999, but quit after nearly a decade.
He made brief returns in 2005 and 2016.

Fans hail ‘miracle’ as sickening F2 crash totally destroys one car and leaves another on its side but drivers walk away
THIS is the horrifying moment a huge crash occurred during a Formula Two race.
With all drivers on the grid at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the lights went out to signal the start of the race.
https://twitter.com/SkySportsF1/status/1835242564296872023 Kush Maini’s car did not get off the line and Pepe Marti went into the back of him[/caption] Marti’s car slid across the track on its side[/caption] Debris covered the track[/caption] Maini’s car was taken away destroyed[/caption]But disaster struck for Kush Maini as his car failed to start, leaving him stationary on the track.
A couple of drivers were able to swerve the Invicta Racing driver – but Pepe Marti was unable to avoid a collision.
He smashed into the back of Maini and destroyed the back of his car.
Marti was sent flying, with his vehicle flipping onto its side and sliding across the tarmac.
Debris covered the track and Oliver Goethe was also unable to continue after he was knocked against the wall as he tried to avoid a dangerous pile up.
Fellow driver Isack Hadjar was heard panicked on the team radio, saying: “Oh my God, that was really bad.”
Thankfully, F2 confirmed all three drivers were OK.
And Goethe was seen speaking to a marshal straight after he climbed out his car.
Fans have hailed how all managed to escape without an injury as a “miracle”.
Others commented: “Such a scary incident, so grateful everyone is okay.”
And another added: “Thank goodness for the halo and a good chassis.”
Analysing the crash, Sky Sports commentators said: “It is worst case scenario.
“It’s always the drivers towards the rear of the field, they are doing a higher when you get there. Your reaction time is ever reduced as you go back through the rows of the grid.
“Those in front use their great reaction times to dart out of the way. You’re unsighted until so late.”
