I feel exhausted and depressed since renovation work started on my house

DEAR DEIDRE: SINCE renovation work started on my house late last year I have developed flu-like symptoms.

I’m very stressed as the house is still not finished.

I’m tired all the time and just want to sleep. I have panic attacks, depression and anxiety but several blood tests found nothing to be wrong.

I am always blowing my nose. The doctor thinks it is down to my depression and anxiety.

I feel rubbish every day. I don’t even want sex. I have no energy and cannot be bothered to eat unless food is cooked for me.

I am nearly 63. I feel like giving in as I’ve had enough of everything.

DEIDRE SAYS: I’ve worked with Dr Zoe Williams, our resident specialist and practising NHS GP on your email.

She suggests your symptoms could be caused by depression, burnout or other mental health conditions, or physical health problems – including infection, or any chronic disease.

It is interesting your symptoms began around the time of your renovations – it’s worth investigating if there is a link.

Dr Zoe suggests: “You may have been exposed to something at that time that triggered an autoimmune or chronic illness, or could have been exposed to fungus or bacteria that could have triggered something.

“Chronic fatigue syndrome is another condition that fits with your symptoms.”

Please go back to your GP and ask for a second opinion.

Toyota’s critics ignore its strong environmental record By: Peter Douglas

Many in the environmental community continue to vilify the Toyota Motor Corporation, portraying the global auto giant as an enemy of electric vehicle adoption. The merciless scapegoating has been triggered by Toyota’s unapologetic defense of its own decarbonization strategy, which acknowledges the value of fully electric vehicles but emphasizes the benefits of a diverse, efficient lineup that matches consumer demand.

Transparency; or how not to cause a panic

editorial, transparency

Vicksburg Daily News -

This week a string of schools across the country had to stress test their active shooter protocols. Some handle the situations well and with full transparency, and others… missed the mark. Thankfully, no threats were found to be active and America did not have to add another tragic tally-mark to an already long list of […]

Chris Smalling endures ‘worst football debut in 19 years’ as ex-Man Utd ace emulates fellow former England star

CHRIS SMALLING had his own Jonathon Woodgate moment on his debut for new club Al-Fayha in the Saudi Pro League.

Smalling, who joined the Saudi outfit this summer, scored an own goal and got himself sent off as Al-Fayha were thrashed 5-0 by Al-Raed.

The star was then shown a red card in the second half[/caption]

Smalling penned a two-year deal with the Middle Eastern club after calling time on his five-year spell in Italy with Roma.

And going into his first game for the club with hopes high as one of the club’s marquee signings, Smalling put in a nightmare performance.

Just six minutes into the game and the 34-year-old tried to clear a low cross into the box, but got it horribly wrong.

Instead of knocking the ball safely away for a corner he saw it bounce off his boot and into the back of his own net.

Al-Fayha conceded another two goals before the break and needed a big second half to turn things around.

But their chances of doing that were scuppered when Smalling was given a straight red card in the 55th minute, reducing his side to ten men and making a comeback virtually impossible.

The two-time Premier League champion has been compared to former Leeds and Middlesbrough defender Jonathan Woodgate, who had a similarly calamitous debut when he first joined Real Madrid.

Back in 2005, Woodgate had sealed a move to Los Blancos and made his first start in a clash with Athletic Bilbao.

Woodgate also scored an own goal as well as receiving two yellow cards to be given his marching orders.

However, his Real Madrid teammates managed to dig him out of the hole by turning the game around and winning 3-1, something Smalling’s Al-Fayha colleagues were unable to do.

Fans online couldn’t believe what they were seeing, taking to social media to tease Smalling for his unfortunate showing.

One wrote: “Channeling his inner Jonathon Woodgate.”

While another simply added: “Yeah, that’s bad.”

A third joked: “He probably saw Woodgate’s Real Madrid debut video before kickoff”.

And a fourth teased: “Chris Smalling having what is known as the ‘Johnathan Woodgate’ of debuts”.

I have been waiting six years for married lover to leave her husband to be with me

DEAR DEIDRE: DAYS drift by between contact with the woman I love, leaving me feeling incredibly lonely.

I met her on a dating app and while she has repeatedly promised that she is leaving her husband, it never happens.

I am a 42-year-old single guy. This woman told me she was married very early on in our conversations, which I took as a good sign.

But the years have rolled by. We’ve been on and off since 2018. Most of our relationship has been online as we live a long distance apart.

But we have met in person a few times.

She is 41 and I’ve waited patiently for her in the hope that we can be together.

We are hugely suited – emotionally, romantically and in every other way.

I love her and she tells me she loves me too but I’m exhausted.

We communicate mainly by text because calls are difficult when she is with her husband.

This is a great source of pain for me as it can be days between our calls, which leaves me feeling unloved and unwanted.

Despite our situation, I really love her. I can’t help but think if we continue as we are, with nothing changing, the future looks very much like the present. Am I being a fool?

Nico's friend asks him about his new girlfriend who has autism

DEIDRE SAYS: Six years is a long time to wait in reserve. You’ve let her into your life with no guarantee or reassurance that she is going to leave her husband for you.

I can’t tell you if she’s being honest, or about the state of her marriage. Only she knows the truth.

You need to tell her how you’re feeling and ask whether she genuinely intends to leave her husband.

Say that until she does, you are going to put your relationship on hold so she can sort out her marriage one way or another.

My support pack Your Lover Not Free explains more about being in this type of relationship.
