My lungs ‘turned to concrete and collapsed’ after vaping left ‘black, gooey vape juice’ leaking from my body
A WOMAN got so addicted to vaping that she showered and slept with her e-cig – until she nearly died when her lungs collapsed and “black mucus” poured out of her body.
Jordan Brielle had been smoking cigarettes since being a young teen but decided to switch to vaping in 2021.
The 32-year-old, who lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, US, soon became addicted to the devices – forking out $500 (£380) a week on her vaping habit.
Jordan said she even took her e-cigarette into the shower and slept with it at the height of her addiction.
The residential assistant noticed a decline in her health in November last year when she began to feel a distinct heaviness in her chest.
The step-mum-of-one said she went to the hospital “two or three times a week” with breathing problems – but still continued to vape despite her respiratory issues.
In May, Jordan was rushed to hospital after her partner found her unresponsive in bed with “black mucus” dripping out of her nose and mouth.
After suctioning two litres of “black” fluid from her lungs, doctors placed Jordan into a medically induced coma for 11 days.
Jordan admits she feels lucky to be alive – and is now warning others to steer clear of vaping.
Jordan said: “I was fully addicted. I was vaping so much that I slept with it, it went to the shower with me. I was vaping an excessive amount.
“Then in mid-November, I began feeling a heaviness in my chest. At first it was just a respiratory infection or bronchitis so I kept going to the hospital with breathing problems.
“I had a horrible cough and was going to the hospital two or three times a week for help. I had little to no voice.
“Each time they would send me home. It felt like there were 80lbs of pressure just laying on my chest. I’d never felt so sick in my life.
“My body was swelling up from my ankles to my kneecaps. I kept going to the hospital because I was progressively getting worse.
“My skin was turning grey, I couldn’t focus, I was very discombobulated. It was hurting to walk. I could barely do anything.
“Nobody knew what was actually wrong with me. I felt like I was dying.”
‘Quit any way you can’
Jordan said she caught Covid-19 and pneumonia but still continued to vape during her health difficulties.
It was only when her partner found her unresponsive in bed before a night shift that Jordan decided to ditch the e-cigarettes for good.
Jordan said: “When he went to wake me up [before a night shift], he said there was black mucus coming out of my mouth and my nose.
“He said I was gasping but couldn’t catch my breath. I was unresponsive and had a faint pulse.
“He began sucking the sputum out of my nose and mouth to try and give me CPR. He called 911 because the CPR wasn’t working.

“I don’t remember anything. I was intubated immediately and taken to hospital.”
Doctors immediately hooked Jordan up to a ventilator and her family was told her left lung had collapsed and right had partially collapsed.
Medics began suctioning two litres of ‘vape juice’ inside Jordan’s lungs before placing her into a medically induced coma for 11 days.
Jordan said: “My body was trying to force out the vape juice inside my lungs, which was like concrete. It was pure black and bloody. At the hospital, they were sucking it out of me.
“There was at least two litres of fluid on my lungs. In hospital, they told me my lungs were extremely damaged from smoking and vaping.

VAPES were once hailed as miracle devices to help adults ditch cigarettes.
But while the devices don’t carry the same risks as tobacco, experts have warned that vaping might not be so harmless after all.
Here are five ways vaping could damage young users bodies:
1. It could slow down brain development
Vaping nicotine can permanently affect brain development in people under the age of 25, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
It said that nicotine consumed during teenage years can harm the parts of the brain that control attention, learning, mood, and impulse control, as well as increase the risk of addiction.
2. It could lead to tooth decay
Dr Michael Heffernan, a dentist at The Wessex Dental Specialist Care, said most vapes contain dangerous chemical that can harm your teeth and lead to decay.
Puffing on the devices could also lead to mouth dryness, creating an environment in which harmful bacteria can grow.
3. It could damage heart health
However, some of the chemicals found in vapes can be damaging to the heart, with the American Heart Association (AHA) stating that vaping is “as harmful to the body’s cardiovascular systems as cigarettes”.
4. It could cause lung disease
Vaping from a young age could leave children with breathing difficulties, with paediatric respiratory consultant Dr Mike McKean saying he’d seen reports of people developing lung disease related to vaping.
Researchers from the US also found that young people who vape are more at risk of bronchitis, inflammation of the airways, and shortness of breath.

“It felt like there was a popped balloon in my lungs. I had to do breathing and lungs exercises before I was discharged.
“I’ve been left with a minor brain injury due to lack of oxygen to my brain.
“The doctors told me there’s a high possibility this could happen again. I’m better now in some ways but worse in other ways.
“They really saved my life. They told me if I’d waited any longer, I wouldn’t have been here. I haven’t touched a vape since.”
Jordan pleaded with other vapers: “I would say to anyone else quit any way you can.
“Do it for your health, your family, your life, your lungs – whatever motivates you, use that reason and stop.
“I wouldn’t wish what I’d been through on anyone else. I feel grateful to be alive.”
Future of My Mum, Your Dad revealed by ITV before new series kicks off
MY Mum, Your Dad reality show future revealed as second series airs tonight.
The ITV reality series follows a group of middle-aged parents as they head on a romance retreat.
In the first series, the group had no idea that they were being watched by their children.
The second series kicks off tonight and will see both the parents and their offspring know how the show works.
But it’s still emotional from the off, and in episode one, a single dad shares how his marriage broke down when he cheated on his wife.
“He strayed and then fell in love with somebody, and then she strayed,” reveals Davina McCall.
“He felt that he was such a bad person that this was karma. But this guy is a great dad and a very nice guy. His child doesn’t blame him.
“His son loves his dad and understands that these things happen. But his dad was lonely. You’ll see how he blossoms in the retreat. It’s amazing.”
New features this year include a steamy Ghost-style pottery workshop and a snug where the midlifers can get to know each other better with a cut-off switch on the cameras.
ITV have confirmed the show will return for a third series as applications to take part have opened.
Meanwhile, Davina revealed she approves of a spin-off show where pensioners are looking for love called Your Nan and My Grandad.
She said: “I called up the company [ITV] immediately and said ‘guys you do know that this is a great idea.'”
“I am not joking. I am manifesting it. I’m going to make this happen.”
Davina also teased there will be “unexpected” drama in the new series.
She said there’s “twists and turns all the way” and is full of “heartwarming and heart crushing” moments that will leave viewers shouting at their telly screens.
The 56-year-old previously admitted that she is expecting more marriages to blossom this series.

Last year’s show winners Roger and Janey are still together with Davina admitting she is hoping for wedding bells.
“I’ve got a squillion hats on standby!” she laughs. “I would be offended if they didn’t invite me.”

THE English Open returns later this month with some of the biggest stars in snooker set to compete in Brentwood.
Judd Trump will compete as he looks to defend his crown after he beat Zhang Anda 9-7 in last year’s final.
The World No1 goes into the tournament on the back of claiming the £500,000 jackpot at the Saudi Arabia Masters earlier this month.
Snooker icon Ronnie O’Sullivan will also compete in the fourth ranking event of the 2024/25 World Tour season as Rocket looks to claim his second English Open title.

Huge change to winter fuel payments as thousands will get £300 direct into bank accounts this winter – are you affected?
THOUSANDS of households will benefit from a huge change to winter fuel payments for the first time this year.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) revised the criteria for applying for the payment, worth up to £300.
It comes after cuts made by Chancellor Rachel Reeves mean that 10million pensioners will no longer be eligible for benefit worth up to £300 this winter.
The £300 government handout was previously available to everyone aged above 66 and helped with high energy costs.
However, the cash is now only given to retirees on pension credit and several other means-tested benefits.
Most households automatically receive the winter fuel payment, including those on pension credit.
However, under the previous rules, those with a joint claim to Universal Credit where one member was over the state pension age had to apply to receive the funds.
This required these households to wait until a specific date in September before they could apply by post or via phone.
Households living abroad are also expected to apply for winter fuel payments.
But, the DWP has now updated its guidance and all households claiming the following benefits do not need to apply for this year’s winter fuel payment unless they live abroad:
- Pension credit
- Universal Credit
- Income support
- Income-based jobseeker’s allowance (JSA)
- Income-related employment support allowance (ESA)
- Child tax credit
- Working tax credit
Only those living abroad and meeting certain conditions must apply for the cash this winter.
If you do not live in the UK, you’re only eligible for the winter fuel payment if:
- You moved to an eligible country before January 1, 2021
- You were born before September 23, 1958
- You have a genuine and sufficient link to the UK – this can include having lived or worked in the UK and having family in the UK
You only need to claim winter fuel payment if you’ve not got it since you moved abroad.
The rest of the time, you’ll get the payment automatically.
To claim by post, you’ll need to fill in the winter fuel payment claim form.
This will be available at www.gov.uk/winter-fuel-payment/how-to-claim from September 30.
Households will also be able to claim by phone, and the DWP will release the helpline number online on October 28.
The deadline to claim for this winter is March 31, 2025.

THE Department for Work and Pensions has revised the criteria for applying for the winter fuel payment, which is worth up to £300.
While this update appears to be a positive development, it comes against a backdrop of cuts that will see 10million pensioners lose out.
Previously, the £300 government handout was a lifeline available to everyone aged 66 and above, offering much-needed relief from high energy costs.
However, Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ recent cuts have narrowed the eligibility to retirees on pension credit and other means-tested benefits.
The new application criteria aims to simplify the application process for most households, who will now receive the winter fuel payment automatically.
This includes those on Universal Credit, a welcome change that should alleviate some of the administrative burden.
Under the previous rules, households with a joint claim to Universal Credit, where one member was over the state pension age, had to endure a cumbersome process.
They were required to wait until a specific date in September to apply by post or phone.
These households will now receive their payments automatically and will not have to stress over filling out a long-winded application form.
HOW MUCH YOU’LL GET
Payments last year were worth between £300 and £600, depending on your specific circumstances.
This is because the amount included a “Pensioner Cost of Living Payment” – between £150 and £300.
However, this year, it will be worth £200 for eligible households or £300 for eligible households with someone aged over 80.
That means you could receive up to £300 in free cash depending on your circumstances.
Most payments are made automatically in November or December.
You’ll get a letter telling you:
- How much you’ll get
- Which bank account it will be paid into
If you do not get a letter or the money has not been paid into your account by January 29, 2025, you must contact the Winter Fuel Payment Centre on 0800 731 0160.
AVOID MISSING OUT
Over 800,000 households are eligible for pension credit but aren’t claiming the benefit.
This also means they risk missing out on this year’s winter fuel payment.
Pension Credit tops up your weekly income to £218.15 if you are single or to £332.95 if you have a partner.
This is known as “guarantee credit”.
If your income is lower than this, you’re very likely to be eligible for the benefit.
However, if your income is slightly higher, you might still be eligible for pension credit if you have a disability, you care for someone, you have savings or you have housing costs.
You could get an extra £81.50 a week if you have a disability or claim any of the following:
- Attendance allowance
- The middle or highest rate from the care component of disability living allowance (DLA)
- The daily living component of personal independence payment (PIP)
- Armed forces independence payment
- The daily living component of adult disability payment (ADP) at the standard or enhanced rate.
You could get the “savings credit” part of pension credit if both of the following apply:
- You reached State Pension age before April 6, 2016
- You saved some money for retirement, for example, a personal or workplace pension
This part of pension credit is worth £17.01 for single people or £19.04 for couples.
It’s wise to put in an application as soon as possible, as the DWP can take up to two months to process new claims.
However, new claims for pension credit can be backdated by three months.
This means that the absolute deadline to claim the benefit and qualify for this year’s winter fuel payment is December 21.
If you fail to apply for the benefit before this date, you won’t qualify for this year’s £300 winter fuel payment.
How do I apply for pension credit?
YOU can start your application up to four months before you reach state pension age.
Applications for pension credit can be made on the government website or by ringing the pension credit claim line on 0800 99 1234.
You can get a friend or family member to ring for you, but you’ll need to be with them when they do.
You’ll need the following information about you and your partner if you have one:
- National Insurance number
- Information about any income, savings and investments you have
- Information about your income, savings and investments on the date you want to backdate your application to (usually three months ago or the date you reached state pension age)
You can also check your eligibility online by visiting www.gov.uk/pension-credit first.
If you claim after you reach pension age, you can backdate your claim for up to three months.

Norton won the Chester Cup on Making Miracles in 2019 and his two Group 2 wins on Sir Ron Priestley were among the highlights of his almost 2,000 career victories.
A keen boxer who turned down a place in the 1998 Commonwealth Games, he was due to fight TV favourites Ant and Dec in a charity bout in 2005.
But the dust-up never happened because, the jockey said, ‘their management didn’t want it’.
That was probably a blessing in disguise, as Norton was eight-time stable lad boxing champ.
On his decision to retire, Norton said: “After an incredible journey spanning over 35 years, the time has come for me to hang up my boots and call it a day in horse racing.
“From the early days in the saddle to the many highs and lows that followed, this sport has given me memories I will treasure forever.
“I’ve been blessed to ride alongside some of the best jockeys, work with the finest trainers, and compete at the most iconic racecourses.
“Every moment has been a privilege.
“Racing has taught me resilience, passion, and humility, and I’m forever grateful for the incredible journey it has taken me on.
“I look forward to seeing you all at Chester for one last race. Let’s make it a day to remember.”
