Zoe Ball’s Radio 2 replacement swerves explaining where presenter has gone after fans worried about ‘missing’ star

ZOE Ball was replaced by Radio 2 star Scott Mills today as worried fans begged for an update on her return.

Presenter Scott failed to address her absence today but last week said “we’re sending you love”.

The veteran broadcaster has been off for six weeks – with insiders claiming “nobody knows what’s going on” at the station.

Zoe, 53, usually takes the reins on the flagship show every weekday morning from 6:30am.

Today, Scott stood in for his second week running and kicked off the show telling fans: “Hello, good morning, how are you? Ready for a new week!”

He failed to mention Zoe, but added: “This weekend, I saw my friends, my family, and I’m trying to get into green tea …”

He said his mates convinced him to drink it and insisted after a couple of days it is “just like coffee”.

But he ditched the plan on Monday morning, and forced himself to drink pure vegetable water which is said to deliver youthful effects on the skin.

BBC Radio 2 posted a video of the moment on Instagram, with Scott heaving at the smell.

But beneath the video, one listener penned: “When’s zoe back?”.

Last week Scott, who is usually in the drivetime hotseat, addressed his appearance on the breakfast programme.

He said: “If you set your alarm every morning to go off at 6:30am and normally Zoe comes on, please do not freak out. You have not overslept.

“If you’ve just put us on this morning, it’s Scott Mills in for Zoe for the next few weeks. I’m sending you all my love Zo’, as are the team.”

Zoe’s absence from her BBC Radio 2 show has again been put under the spotlight.

A source has told MailOnline how mystery surrounds Zoe’s absence and said: “Nobody knows what has happened but everyone loves Zoe.

“We hope everything is okay.

“Zoe is so loved at the BBC so to not have her around is really noticeable.”

The star took the summer holidays off and had not been on air since July.

The BBC also released a statement on the broadcaster’s future earlier this month.

They said: “Zoe will return to the Radio 2 Breakfast Show later this month.”

Huw Edwards AVOIDS jail after paying paedo for child sex images that he branded ‘amazing’ in vile WhatsApp chat

HUW Edwards has avoided jail after he paid a vile predator £1,500 for child sex images and videos that the star branded “amazing”.

The former BBC presenter, 63, was given the images in a depraved WhatsApp chat by convicted paedo Alex Williams.

Edwards has now avoided a jail sentence after he pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.

He had faced a maximum 12 months in jail for the offences after a judge kept the case at magistrates court rather than sending it to crown.

Edwards was instead handed a six month sentenced suspended for two years.

Chief magistrate Paul Goldspring branded Edwards “perhaps the most-recognised newsreader in the UK,” before going on to say, “now your reputation is in tatters”.

The veteran newsreader was sent 41 images – including two videos of a boy as young as seven – by Williams.

He issued a grovelling apology for his “repugnant” crimes – saying he has the “utmost regret” for “damaging his family and loved ones”.

Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard he paid between £1,000 and £1,500 for the images, which he described as “amazing”.

Williams, who trawled the dark web for the vile pictures and videos, then used the cash to support himself at university.

He also asked Edwards to buy gifts for him in exchange for “all the hot videos” – including a pair of Air Force 1 trainers for Christmas.

Williams also demanded hundreds of pounds a go for the images.

On one occasion, the predator asked if Edwards wanted sexual images of a person whose “age could be discerned as being between 14 and 16”.

The newsreader replied: “Yes xxx”.

Williams later sent Edwards a full file containing around 30 attachments – including indecent images of children.

He also warned the paedo “don’t send anything underage”, the court heard.

On August 11, 2021, Williams contacted Edwards and told him he had some “naughty” images”.

Edwards told him to “go on”, and Williams says “young” before the newsreader repeated himself.

Williams said the victim in the image is quite young looking – causing Edwards to reply that “ages can be deceptive”.

When the paedo suggested that some of the images may be illegal, Edwards replied: “Ah ok, don’t”.

Edwards had engaged in an online chat with 25-year-old Williams between December 2020 and August 2021.

During this time, the paedo sent Edwards 377 sexual images, of which 41 were indecent images of children.

EDWARDS UNMASKED

By Scarlet Howes | Sun Investigations Team

THE mum of a teen sent vile messages by Huw Edwards has hit out at the disgraced BBC host in an open letter.

She tells him he caused “immense pain and suffering” to her and her son in the pursuit of his “sick pleasure”.

Edwards, 62, is due to be sentenced today over indecent images of children as young as seven found on his mobile phone.

Seven of the 41 he admitted to receiving were in Category A — the most serious classification.

The mother of the young man who Edwards paid tens of thousands of pounds to in return for sexually explicit pictures says the former news anchor should be locked up.

She writes: “Edwards has exploited very young children for his own sick ends and in my mind should go to prison.

“It breaks my heart as a mother to know that the man who groomed and controlled my son also shared the worst kind of child abuse picture.

“No paedophile who enjoys pictures of young kids should be free on the street.”

Edwards is facing a possible jail sentence when he appears in court today and could spend the rest of his life on the sex offenders register.

The anguished mum of Huw Edwards’ young victim has told the shamed BBC star: “All we cared about was stopping you.”

She poured her heart out in an open letter after she exposed the shamed News at Ten presenter for sending her teenage son tens of thousands of pounds in return for sexually explicit pictures.

Williams first got touch with the presenter because he was randomly messaging famous people to see who responded.

He pleaded guilty in March to seven offences relating to possessing and distributing indecent images.

He was handed a 12-month jail term suspended for two years.

Seven of the images fall under Category A – the most serious classification.

This included two moving images of a young child, possibly aged between seven and nine years old.

He also had photos of other children aged between 13 and 15 stored on his phone.

A further 12 images were classed as Category B and 19 as Category C.

The court heard in July that Edwards did not create any of the images himself.

The charge of making indecent images can mean opening an email attachment, downloading a picture or receiving an image via social media.

In mitigation, Philip Evans KC, defending, claimed Edwards did not make payments to Williams in order to receive indecent images of children.

How are indecent images defined and categorised?

Under section 1 of Protection of Children Act 1978, it is an offence to possess indecent photographs of children.

The images are categorised under three groups ranging from A – the most serious – to C.

  • Category A: Explicit material involving penetration, sexual activity with an animal or sadism (deemed the most severe).
  • Category B: Explicit material that is non-penetrative sexual activity (the mid-range in terms of seriousness).
  • Category C: Explicit material involving erotic posing (the least severe).

He also claimed Edwards did not take any “gratification” from the pictures and videos.

The lawyer added: “Mr Edwards wishes to apologise. He wishes the court to know how profoundly sorry he is. He recognises the repugnant nature of such images and the hurt that is done to those who appear in such images.

“For his part in that, he apologies sincerely and he makes it clear that he has the utmost regret.

“He recognises he has betrayed the priceless trust and faith of so many people. He knows that he has hurt and damaged his family and his loved ones around him.

“He is truly sorry and he is truly sorry that he has committed these offences.”

But the court was told Edwards was described as being at a “medium” risk of causing harm to children.

JPs also heard has suffered from depression and mental health issues.

He is currently doing well “therapeutically” in the psychiatric unit of the hospital environment where he is being treated.

But this may not last if taken out of that bubble, the prosecutor said.

Mr Hope added that “his decision-making across the relevant time may have been adversely impaired by a mixture of mood disorder, neuro-cognitive disorder and alcohol consumption”.

Edwards quit the BBC in April after 40 years reporting on some of the world’s biggest stories.

This included leading coverage of the Queen‘s funeral and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s wedding.

He was one of the BBC’s highest-profile and highest-paid presenters with a pay bracket between £475,000 and £479,999 for the year 2023/24.

The BBC confirmed it knew in November their star newsreader had been arrested but kept paying him for another five months.

The Sun revealed previously how the dad-of-five has now split from his TV producer wife.

Picturesque English seaside village that’s even better to visit in winter – and home to ‘world’s best fish and chips’

FROM bungee jumping off a viaduct to the ruins of a medieval abbey that inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Whitby has been named one of the best seaside towns to visit in the winter.

Travel writer Madeleine Bunting spent two years visiting coastal destinations across the UK.

The ruins of Whitby Abbey are said to have inspired Bram Stoker[/caption]

She previously raved about Whitby to Sun Travel, saying it’s better to visit in the winter compared to peak summer months.

Madeleine who wrote, The Seaside: England’s Love Affair, previously told Sun Online Travel: “Whitby is better in the winter because there’s fewer crowds.

“There’s lots to see in Whitby too, so a winter time visit means no battling with crowds like in the height of summer.

“From long bracing walks along the beach to warm cafes and indoor attractions, there’s plenty to do in Whitby even in the winter.”

Set in Yorkshire, in the north of England, the seaside town of Whitby is a popular summer holiday destination among Brits.

It was even voted as a top holiday destination to visit in 2022 by Sykes Holiday Cottages.

The seaside town was made famous by Irish author Bram Stoker who was inspired to write his novel Dracula after visiting Whitby in 1890.

More specifically, the author is said to have been inspired by Whitby Abbey, an 11th-century medieval abbey that stands on the site of a much earlier abbey.

Nowadays, visitors can wander through the abbey ruins, following in Bram Stoker’s footsteps.

Entry tickets cost £11 for a full-paying adult, with children’s tickets costing £6.50.

There are plenty of other celebrities with ties to Whitby, including children’s author Lewis Carroll and award-winning actress Dame Judi Dench.

Both Carroll and Dench have been on holiday to escape their fame and relax.

If relaxing sounds like a bit of you, Madeleine recommends going on a long walk along the seafront with a warm cup of hot chocolate.

Meanwhile, adrenaline junkies will want to head to Larpool Viaduct – England’s only Bridge Bungee Jump.

On their website, they write: “From the Viaduct you’ll be greeted by the panoramic sights of Whitby, which includes a distinctive view of the historic Whitby Abbey, completed by the wandering River Esk below.”

Run by UK Bungee Club, the 150-ft leap of faith is run on select days throughout the year, including November 9 and December 21, 2024.

Experiences start from £99 per person.

Other attractions in Whitby include the Museum of Victorian Science, Captain Cook Memorial Museum and Whitby Distillery.

Visitors who are hungry after all that sightseeing will be relieved to know that Whitby is home to the best chippy in the UK.

Last year, hundreds of visitors on X (formerly Twitter) hailed the fish and chip shops in Whitby after one holidaymaker put out a Tweet asking for recommendations.

One person wrote: “It’s unique and lovely. Best fish ‘n’ chips in the world.”

Another added: “A Lovely place. Best fish and chips in the country.”

While this may be a bit of a stretch, one chippy in Whitby was named the best in the UK as recently as 2019.

Trenchers was voted the best place to get fish and chips in the country by the National Fish & Chip Awards.

The restaurant has been selling chippy teas since 1980 and boasts online about its “traditional menu of fish and chips, seafood and British dishes, served all day, every day, throughout the year”.

However, it’s not the only fried food vendor in the town to lay claim to the title of best in the nation, with The Magpie Cafe named number one by Time Out last November.

There are a range of overnight accommodation options in Whitby too like the Old Boatman’s Shelter – a beachfront hotel overlooking the West Pier.

Meanwhile, Number 7 Guest House is just 300 metres from Whitby Beach, making it ideal for anyone for beachgoers.

Whitby is a 36-minute drive from the popular seaside town of Scarborough.

Other UK seaside towns

Madeleine Bunting previously told Sun Online Travel about two other seaside towns that are better to visit in the winter rather than summer.

The travel writer encouraged Brit holidaymakers to head to Whitstable and Robin Hood’s Bay during the shoulder season rather than the height of summer.

She told Sun Online Travel: “Robin Hood’s Bay gets very crowded in the summer, but in the winter there’s more space in the village.

“Whitstable is better in the winter because there’s hardly any crowds”.

Five interesting facts about Whitby

ASIDE from inspiring famous authors and providing other celebs with a safe haven, there are plenty of other interesting facts about Whitby.

  • Famous explorer Captain James Cook studied his seaman’s apprenticeship in Whitby
  • After a bout of heavy rainfall, fossils have been known to wash up on Whitby Beach
  • Once a popular Whaling Port, a Whalebone Arch can be found on the top of the West Cliff close the monument of Captain Cook
  • Whitby is home to the best fish and chips in the UK, according to a group of experts
  • The seaside town is said to be a hotbed of paranormal activity, with ghost hunters flocking from all over the world to hunt for ghosts.

Meanwhile, another northern seaside town has been nicknamed the Las Vegas of the UK and it has arcades, cabaret, and sandy beaches.

The traditional seaside town of Skegness has been likened to the American city for several years.

Lauryn Goodman reveals the full message she sent to Kyle Walker’s wife Annie revealing he was the father of her daughter

LAURYN Goodman has shared the full message she sent to Kyle Walker’s wife Annie Kilner, revealing he was the father of her daughter.

Lauryn‘s relationship with the married footballer, 34, made her a household name after it came to light that the pair have known each other for a decade and have two children together.

Lauryn offers evidence and asks Annie to unblock her[/caption]

The 33-year-old is currently appearing on E4‘s Celebs Go Dating, where she has tearfully described the pain of being Britain’s most maligned mistress.

Having detailed the ordeal in therapy sessions on the show, she’s now posted the bombshell WhatsApp message she sent to Annie, which revealed her husband’s affair, to Instagram.

Dated 27th December 2023, the text reveals that Kyle is the father of her daughter and has been involved in their lives.

In it, she claims Kyle has been lying to both of them and doesn’t want them to communicate.

Lauryn offers evidence and asks Annie to unblock her on Instagram so they can discuss it further.

It reads: “Hey it’s lauryn I just wanted to quickly tell you that Kyle is the father of our daughter. He’s been having a relationship with us all including the baby & Ive got everything to prove it.

“He’s been apart of our lives seeing the children. Il wanted to have the decency to tell you. If you want to speak further we can but he’s been lying to us both. He doesn’t want us to speak.

“He’ll gaslight you saying why hasn’t she put it out there knowing we have a legal agreement atm. He’ll probably say l’m a nutter or obsessed to get you to believe him.

“All his boys have known from the start, so don’t trust them. I’m sorry. I’ve got to go to protect myself legally if you need to speak again to see evidence etc unblock me on insta so I know to call you.

“Or could always show you in person. This isn’t a prank or joke. Think back to all your messages. Your messages in March with him, how weird he was acting before World Cup.”

Lauryn and footballer Kyle have hit headlines over the years with their very public feud.

The two had a brief fling in 2019, while Kyle was on a break from his now wife Annie, which resulted in the birth of their son Kairo in April 2020.

Lauryn then gave birth to a baby girl in August 2023 – and it was later confirmed that the footballer was the father.

Kyle and Annie, who first got together as teens, tied the knot in 2022.

The couple share four kids and Annie welcomed their fourth earlier this year.

It comes after Lauryn was forced to hit back at trolls after they questioned why her children had Kyle’s surname.

Viewers had spotted that she wears a necklace with the initials, KW.

Lauryn has previously explained that the K represents her children, Kairo and Kinara, who she shares with the Manchester City player.

But following her appearance this week, one troll raged: “What is with her necklace!!!! KW !!!! No shame! The stalker needs to be of tv and given no more attention.”

The cruel comment sparked a flurry of comments, with some questioning why the children were called Walker.

Lauryn set the record straight, replying: “We decided on the surname together, not going to change them now.”

The model has been incredibly emotional throughout her time on the dating show and has struggled to open up after what has gone on.

Earlier this week Lauryn broke down while chatting with Anna Williamson and Dr Tara.

She told them: “I feel so damaged inside me.”

Last night she admitted she was shocked when someone one of her dates was nice to her.

Bursting into tears, she said:   “I’m used to it being my fault all the time.

“You speak to someone like that, like a Mark. I’m not used to it. I’m not used to that.”

She then opened up about her children.

Lauryn continued: “I think people forget my only priority are my children.

“It’s heavy, really heavy on just like your energy levels. I feel drained.

“I feel like I’m constantly going to war for my kids and I’m so sick of the battle.

“It’s just a battle. It’s just a struggle.”
