I’ve been secretly wearing new Apple AirPods 4 – phone calls will never be the same but ‘ear scan’ perk is the best bit

APPLE’S AirPods have won.

Just look around next time you’re at a busy train station or on a city street. How many ears are plugged with those pure-white Apple earbuds? You’ll probably give up trying to count.

The Apple AirPods charging case now has a USB-C port[/caption]

The number of people now using AirPods is estimated to be over 100 million. That’s a huge chunk of the global population.

And that number is about to rise given that Apple has just turned out two new pairs of AirPods 4.

I’ve been quietly (and also loudly) testing them out in secret since their debut at the Apple Glowtime event on September 9.

They come in two flavours: regular Apple AirPods 4 for £129 / $129 and AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation £179 / $179.

These are now officially the entry-level AirPods, unless you decide to buy older or refurbished models.

Like before, the AirPods connect wirelessly to your devices, pause music when you pop an earbud out, and re-charge in their handy carry case.

And they’ll still let you chat to Siri if you want to.

But there’s plenty of new stuff to get excited about.

Probably the most common complaint leveled at Apple over its AirPods is comfort.

Many people say that the AirPods just don’t fit well. I’ve never had a problem, but every ear is different.

Other headphones solve this with silicone tips, just like the AirPods Pro.

But Apple has taken a new stab at creating what it calls the “most comfortable” headphones it has ever made.

This involved scanning thousands of ears (yes, really) to produce what Apple reckons is the perfect AirPods shape.

I will say that they do feel very comfortable even with extended use.

And they’re neat and lightweight, so you hardly notice them in there.

Despite this tight and comfortable new design, the AirPod still sound great.

You reach impressive levels of volume, clarity, and bass despite the relatively low price and small frame.

And there’s now support for Personalized Spatial Audio that dynamically tracks your head to give you an immersive experience while watching movies or listening to music.

There are two versions, including a new model with Active Noise Cancellation[/caption]

It’s difficult to explain exactly why it feels so cool. But it does feel cool, and you should try it.

There’s new Voice Isolation (courtesy of the built-in H2 chip) to make your spoken words sound clearer on the phone.

I tried this with a call at a busy New York intersection and I was reliably informed that the background sound was completely shut out. Very cool.

The stems of the new AirPods have a force sensor for pausing or playing music.

The new Apple AirPods start at £129 / $129[/caption]

And the charging case (which brings you up to a mammoth 30 hours of battery life total) now supports USB-C charging.

That’s the same type of cable that plugs into the latest iPhone, iPad, and Mac models. A great change, as the world moves towards a single cable rather than the dizzying array of wires we were used to in the past.

If you buy the ANC version of the AirPods 4, the case also supports wireless charging. This even works with an Apple Watch charger, if you have one.

The big change for the AirPods with ANC model is, as the name suggests, its noise-cancelling tech.

APPLE AIRPODS 4 BATTERY EXPLAINED

Here's what you need to know...

The new Apple AIrPods 4 offer five hours of listening time on a single charge.

But you’ll get 30 hours of total listening time using the case.

With Active Noise Cancellation turned on, you’ll get four hours of listening time per charge.

And the total listening time drops to 20 hours with ANC enabled.

You toggle it on and totally shut out the ambient din around you.

It’s impressively good considering there are no silicone tips for a perfect seal.

This is especially useful if you’re trying to listen on a plane, while moving around a city, or sitting in a noisy office.

You can also switch to Transparency Mode to bring in noise, which is great for hearing announcement on a train platform, for instance.

Apple has redesigned the AirPods after scanning thousands of ears[/caption]

And Adaptive Audio gives you a bit of both, blending ANC and Transparency mode depending on your situation.

Lastly there’s Conversation Awareness, which will automatically lower your media volume when you start speaking to someone.

All of these tricks will cost you an extra £50 / $50, but they’re so good it feels like an easy sell.

The only other big change is the new Siri Interactions feature.

a person is holding a white case with a brick wall in the background
Sean Keach / The Sun
The charging case keeps the AirPods topped up with power[/caption]

It lets you nod or shake your head to say “yes” or “no” to Siri requests.

So if you’re in a busy lift, just shake your head to turn down an incoming call. It’s easy and intuitive – classic AirPods magic.

Time and again you’ll hear audio obsessives talking about how the sound quality of AirPods can be beaten by similarly priced alternatives.

Just ignore them. Preferably using Active Noise Cancellation.

Firstly, I will say that I think that the new AirPods 4 sound great for the money – especially the ANC version.

But ultimately (and perhaps confusingly), sound quality is just one small part of why you’re buying headphones.

Headphones are – at their most basic – a delivery mechanism for getting audio into your ears.

It doesn’t matter how delicious the pizza you ordered would’ve been if it’s been thrown around, the toppings have fallen off, and there’s a thumbprint on every slice.

You’ll eat it, bitter and resentful.

AirPods are the intact pizza, quickly delivered. Maybe it’s not the best-tasting three-Michelin-star pizza in the world. But it comes to you whole, delicious, and un-thumbed. And ultimately, all pizza is good pizza – as long as you get it properly.

If you only own one pair of headphones, you cannot do better than Apple AirPods.

They just work, and well. They are simple, practical, and delightful. And importantly, they’re not wildly expensive.

If you’re obsessed with music and have loads of cash to spare, go buy some posh over-ear headphones packed with tech and plug in for lossless audio brilliance.

Most people don’t want care enough about that experience to pay big bucks for it.

The Apple AirPods 4 deliver pure audio magic at a fairly low price. They were already great, and now they’re even better value for money.

The Sun says: The new AirPods 4 are blissfully comfortable, sound great for their size, and supercharge your ears with more features than ever before. They’re popular for a reason – and just got way better. 5/5

The Apple AirPods 4 (£129 / $129) and AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation (£179 / $179) are available on Friday, September 20.

All prices in this article were correct at the time of writing, but may have since changed.

On Sunday (15 September) Rachel, 36, took to Instagram to share details of her injury with her 88,000 fans.

The Hollyoaks alum posted a number of images collated into a video of herself in hospital and on crutches on her Instagram story as she revealed she’s been experiencing a hamstring injury.

However, the photos she posted reveal that she seems to be on the mend. In one shot, Rachel is all smiles posing in her hospital room, while in another she is smiling and moving around her living room wearing a knee brace and crutches.

In the video, she also shares pictures of her friends and family offering their steadfast support at her bedside.

Thanking them for their support, she wrote: “Wholesome month of R&R after a hamstring injury… thanks so much for the pit crew for keeping me sane. Wish I had pictures of all of you – I love you very much.”

In her next story, Rachel shared an image of the All Creatures Great and Small cast and wrote “3 days to season 5.”

Rachel, who had finished filming all the scenes for the upcoming series before her injury, will return as Helen Herriot alongside Nicholas Ralph as vet James Herriot, Samuel West as Siegfried Farnon, Anna Madeley as Mrs Hall, Patricia Hodge as Mrs Pumphrey, Callum Woodhouse as Tristan Farnon and series 4 newcomer James Anthony Rose as Richard Carmody.

Picking up from the event of the dramatic 2023 Christmas Special – where James sadly missed the birth of his son – All Creatures Great and Small takes viewers back to Yorkshire for more dales drama on Thursday 19th September.

The latest series is set in Spring 1941 in Darrowby, where young baby Jimmy keeps our favourite Skeldale House family on their toes.

According to the official synopsis: “Helen is getting the hang of motherhood with James away at RAF Abingdon.”

Meanwhile, “Mrs Hall and Siegfried are enjoying having a little one around, and Carmody is now part of the furniture.”

“With World War II now fully underway, Siegfried is taking up the slack at the surgery. Mrs Hall and Helen are considering their contribution within the community, and Carmody is eager to step up.”

Episode 1 of series 5 will air at 9pm on Channel 5 and My5.

It’s set to be a dramatic one as the effects of World War II are felt by the Darrowby community.

Top Channel 5 dramas

Channel 5 has become a hub for gripping drama, these are some of the best My5 has to offer.

  • All Creatures Great and Small – Based on the best-selling novels by real-life vet Alf Wright, the show revolves around a trio of vets working in the Yorkshire Dales in the late 1930s. Eccentric Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West) hires James Herriot (Nicholas Ralph) for his veterinary practice at Skeldale House alongside himself and his younger brother Tristan (Callum Woodhouse). There James settles into his new life and even finds love with local farmer’s daughter Helen (Rachel Shenton).
  • The Ex-Wife – New parents Tasha (Céline Buckens) and Jack (Tom Misson) seem to have the perfect life, but the constant presence of Jack’s overly friendly but suspicious ex-wife Jen (Janet Montgomery) puts pressure on the couple. But as the series progresses it becomes less clear who the bad guy really is and how far everyone will go to get the life they think they deserve.
  • HeatEastEnders alum Danny Dyer leads this four-part action thriller, set in Australia, which sees two families holidaying together during bushfire season. But instead of rest and relaxation, secrets and lies start to unravel — and not everyone will make it out alive…
  • Lie With Me – Another soap legend jets off to Australia, this time its EastEnders alum Charlie Brooks who takes as a married woman trying to saving her marriage by moving halfway around the world after her husband had an affair. However it’s far from plain sailing, as a young and attractive live-in nanny comes to work with the Fallmont family, and tensions soon build and eventually, someone ends up dead.
  • The DrowningJill Halfpenny plays Jodie, a woman whose life is shattered following the disappearance of her beloved four-year-old son, Daniel. However, ten years later, the grieving mother thinks she’s finally found her missing child, and embarks on a journey to discover the truth about him. But has she really just found the son she has been missing for so long?

In episode one, “Mrs Hall and Helen attend a community meeting about the local war effort. Siegfried is under pressure to keep the surgery going in James and Tristan’s absence and leans on Carmody for more help.”

Meanwhile, James is still away at RAF Abingdon preparing for an important flight training with his crew – but he is unexpectedly grounded and sent to work on a farm where he reconnects with his veterinary roots.

Of course, while James and Helen are separated at the beginning of the show, viewers should expect that to be the case for the entirety of series 5.

They’ve been spotted filming together, along with Callum who plays Tristan.

Rachel has been spotted filming scenes with Nicholas and Callum[/caption]

Channel 5 previously confirmed Tristan will make an “unexpected return later in the series,” but it won’t be without some drama.

“Siegfried is keen to have everyone back, but Tristan’s surprise return won’t be quite as straightforward as he hoped,” the synopsis teases.

Once Rachel has healed up from her hamstring injury viewers can expect her to be straight back to work though as Channel 5 has already renewed All Creatures Great and Small for a sixth series.

Speaking about the renewal, Rachel told Radio Times: “We absolutely love making it. We’re having a good time.”

She credits the “simplicity” of the show’s “rich” scripts for grabbing audience’s attention.

“People say what they mean, and they really care about each other.

“That’s radical these days. The show is about community and people caring about each other, and I believe that’s why people love it,” she explained.

Neymar ‘warns Real Madrid stars about Kylian Mbappe’ and claims playing with ace at PSG was ‘catastrophic’ and ‘hell’

NEYMAR has reportedly warned Real Madrid’s Brazilian stars that playing alongside Kylian Mbappe is “HELL.”

The stark message was sent as Real’s new striker and Samba winger Vinicius Jr both scored in a 2-0 win at Real Sociedad at the weekend.

Neymar has reportedly warned Real Madrid’s Brazilian stars over playing alongside Neymar[/caption]

Mbappe joined Los Blancos on a stunning free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain this summer and has since netted four goals in six games for his new side.

The World Cup winner was treated like a king in the French capital, where he won six titles and scored 256 goals in seven seasons.

But Mbappe’s important role at PSG saw him clash several times with Neymar.

The Brazil icon was signed alongside Mbappe in 2017 for a world-record £198million fee.

And he ended up leaving PSG a year ago for a move to Saudi side Al-Hilal.

During their time together, Neymar and Mbappe clashed over several set-pieces as they jostled for the title of star forward.

And the Frenchman even left his former teammate fuming after refusing to play a simple pass to him two years ago.

Neymar has since gone on to like not one but TWO social media posts criticising Mbappe.

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

And it’s now been claimed that Neymar has written to Real’s Brazilian stars to warn them about Mbappe’s supposed antics.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side boasts several Samba stars including Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Endrick and Eder Militao.

How Kylian Mbappe’s incredible seven-year body transformation propelled skinny teen into world’s best player

By Etienne Fermie

KYLIAN MBAPPE has entered his physical prime as he has FINALLY rubber-stamped his free transfer move to Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old has grown from a boy to a man in Ligue 1, first with Monaco and then with current side Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappe debuted for Monaco as a skinny 16-year-old in 2015.

He even featured as a scrawny youngster against Tottenham at the old White Hart Lane that year, before fans realised what an icon he would become.

The following season, Mbappe really rose to superstardom as Monaco reached the Champions League semi-finals.

In a throwback snap shared earlier this week, an 18-year-old Mbappe could be seen chatting to a reporter after grabbing a Champions League brace against Borussia Dortmund in April 2017.

Read more on Mbappe’s incredible rise on and off the field.

And Neymar has reportedly not held back with his scathing analysis of playing alongside Mbappe.

Journalist Cyril Hanouna said on Europe 1: “The Brazilians (at Real) are friends with Neymar.

“It has always been a war between Neymar and Mbappe.

“Neymar has sent a paper about Mbappe to the Brazilians, telling them that it was catastrophic, that it was hell.”

Neymar is currently sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury sustained last year, meaning he has made just three appearances for Al-Hilal.

As for Mbappe, he has started all of Real’s games since joining and will be hoping to feature in tomorrow’s Champions League group stage opener against Stuttgart.

Kylian Mbappe ‘snaps up £15m mansion in Beckham’s old neighbourhood’ next door to Real Madrid legend and Hollywood star

By Gerard Couzens

KYLIAN MBAPPE has reportedly splashed out more than £15million on a mansion in Madrid.

The French superstar, whose drawn-out transfer to Real Madrid has finally being confirmed, is said to have finalised the purchase late last month.

Respected Spanish daily La Razon says the house he has bought is in the exclusive Madrid suburb of La Moraleja, where David Beckham spent most of his time living when he was in the Spanish capital.

And it says his neighbours will include former Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos and his stunning model wife Pilar Rubio as well as Hollywood star Richard Gere and his Spanish publicist wife Alejandra Silva.

La Razon said Mbappe had considered the gated estate of La Finca where Jude Bellingham lives and Cristiano Ronaldo still owns property as an option.

But it reported the 25-year-old, who threw an extravagant party for 250 guests at a stylish Italian restaurant a short walk from the Eiffel Tower, ended up opting for La Moraleja a 15-minute drive from Real Madrid’s Valdebebas training complex because it was “more comfortable.”

‘It triggers me’ people cry as ‘red flag’ tattoo artist shows lad’s first ink & pros say he ‘should’ve turned him away’

A TATTOIST has been slammed after showing off a young client’s first ever ink – on his face.

Tattoo artist Javi took to his Instagram page to share a video of a young man who had chosen to have his date of birth in Roman numerals, etched on the side of his face.

“Client’s first tattoo – his birthdate on his sideburn,” he wrote over the top of the video.

And he added in the caption: “My guy got his first tattoo on his face...

“Client has since then came back and gotten more tattoo work.”

The video showed Javi applying some clear gel over the design he had just inked, which had a red area around it.

But people in the comments section were quick to slam the tattooist for even agreeing to the etching in the first place.

“Not gonna lie, massive red flag for an artist to tattoo face on someone who has no ink at all,” one wrote.

“A reputable tattoo artist would have denied or turned this kid away,” another said.

As a third person – a fellow tattoo artist – added: “I would never tattoo someone’s face for their first tattoo.”

“Have standards. Don’t ruin people’s lives,” someone else urged.

“Artists need to learn to say no,” another sighed.

While someone else said: “I’ve seen a few tattoo artists who have said they will refuse to tattoo a face unless it’s about the only place left to tattoo.

“Naturally, there are exceptions, but I’ve found even within the industry, some artists deem it a no-go until there are no other places on a client.

“Same concept as tattooing a drunk person.

“Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should!”

“When I was like 19 I was SO close to getting Japanese writing on my cheekbone as my first tattoo,” another recalled.

“No artist in my area would do it, and I’m so happy for it now looking back!”

Tattoo Do's and Don'ts

    1. Think, think and think some more

Tattoos done on a whim are far more likely to lead to regret than a tattoo you thought long and hard about. Think about why you want what you’ve chosen. And if you still want it after a few months, then get it.

    2. Age restrictions apply

You must be 18 years old to be tattooed in the UK.

    3. Don’t haggle over the price

When you go to a tattoo shop the price is the price. You are paying for an artist’s time and skills, they charge what they believe those things are worth.

    4. Don’t get tattooed while you’re hungry

Eat before you go for your tattoo session and make sure you’re hydrated. You’re about to be subjected to a period of sustained physical discomfort, if you’re feeling a little weak from hunger or you’re dehydrated things will not go as smoothly as they should.

    5. Don’t drink alcohol before you get tattooed

If you are drunk or under the influence of drugs, don’t go for a tattoo. In fact, if your tattooist has anything at all about them they will turn you away if you are clearly under the influence of any intoxicating substances.  I’d also avoid drinking the night before, even a few drinks will thin your blood and make your bleed more.

“Way to make sure you’re never respected in this industry,” someone else blasted.

But other people slammed the man’s design itself, after he chose to have 11/26/2001 inked on his face – making him 22 years old.

“Imagine wanting a face tattoo so badly the only thing you can think to put on there is your birthday,” one giggled.

“People just be getting anything,” another sighed.

“Is he gonna get his social security number on the other side?” someone else questioned.

As another wondered if it was “in case he forgets?”

Zoe Ball’s Radio 2 replacement swerves explaining where presenter has gone after fans worried about ‘missing’ star

ZOE Ball was replaced by Radio 2 star Scott Mills today as worried fans begged for an update on her return.

Presenter Scott failed to address her absence today but last week said “we’re sending you love”.

Scott entertained listeners by drinking vegetable water on air that tasted disgusting

The veteran broadcaster has been off for six weeks – with insiders claiming “nobody knows what’s going on” at the station.

Zoe, 53, usually takes the reins on the flagship show every weekday morning from 6:30am.

Today, Scott stood in for his second week running and kicked off the show telling fans: “Hello, good morning, how are you? Ready for a new week!”

He failed to mention Zoe, but added: “This weekend, I saw my friends, my family, and I’m trying to get into green tea …”

He said his mates convinced him to drink it and insisted after a couple of days it is “just like coffee”.

But he ditched the plan on Monday morning, and forced himself to drink pure vegetable water which is said to deliver youthful effects on the skin.

BBC Radio 2 posted a video of the moment on Instagram, with Scott heaving at the smell.

But beneath the video, one listener penned: “When’s zoe back?”.

Last week Scott, who is usually in the drivetime hotseat, addressed his appearance on the breakfast programme.

He said: “If you set your alarm every morning to go off at 6:30am and normally Zoe comes on, please do not freak out. You have not overslept.

“If you’ve just put us on this morning, it’s Scott Mills in for Zoe for the next few weeks. I’m sending you all my love Zo’, as are the team.”

Zoe’s absence from her BBC Radio 2 show has again been put under the spotlight.

A source has told MailOnline how mystery surrounds Zoe’s absence and said: “Nobody knows what has happened but everyone loves Zoe.

    “We hope everything is okay.

“Zoe is so loved at the BBC so to not have her around is really noticeable.”

The star took the summer holidays off and had not been on air since July.

The BBC also released a statement on the broadcaster’s future earlier this month.

They said: “Zoe will return to the Radio 2 Breakfast Show later this month.”

Huw Edwards AVOIDS jail after paying paedo for child sex images that he branded ‘amazing’ in vile WhatsApp chat

HUW Edwards has avoided jail after he paid a vile predator £1,500 for child sex images and videos that the star branded “amazing”.

The former BBC presenter, 63, was given the images in a depraved WhatsApp chat by convicted paedo Alex Williams.

Edwards has now avoided a jail sentence after he pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.

He had faced a maximum 12 months in jail for the offences after a judge kept the case at magistrates court rather than sending it to crown.

Edwards was instead handed a six month sentenced suspended for two years.

Chief magistrate Paul Goldspring branded Edwards “perhaps the most-recognised newsreader in the UK,” before going on to say, “now your reputation is in tatters”.

The veteran newsreader was sent 41 images – including two videos of a boy as young as seven – by Williams.

He issued a grovelling apology for his “repugnant” crimes – saying he has the “utmost regret” for “damaging his family and loved ones”.

Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard he paid between £1,000 and £1,500 for the images, which he described as “amazing”.

Williams, who trawled the dark web for the vile pictures and videos, then used the cash to support himself at university.

He also asked Edwards to buy gifts for him in exchange for “all the hot videos” – including a pair of Air Force 1 trainers for Christmas.

Williams also demanded hundreds of pounds a go for the images.

On one occasion, the predator asked if Edwards wanted sexual images of a person whose “age could be discerned as being between 14 and 16”.

    The newsreader replied: “Yes xxx”.

Williams later sent Edwards a full file containing around 30 attachments – including indecent images of children.

He also warned the paedo “don’t send anything underage”, the court heard.

On August 11, 2021, Williams contacted Edwards and told him he had some “naughty” images”.

Edwards told him to “go on”, and Williams says “young” before the newsreader repeated himself.

Williams said the victim in the image is quite young looking – causing Edwards to reply that “ages can be deceptive”.

When the paedo suggested that some of the images may be illegal, Edwards replied: “Ah ok, don’t”.

Edwards had engaged in an online chat with 25-year-old Williams between December 2020 and August 2021.

During this time, the paedo sent Edwards 377 sexual images, of which 41 were indecent images of children.

    EDWARDS UNMASKED

By Scarlet Howes | Sun Investigations Team

THE mum of a teen sent vile messages by Huw Edwards has hit out at the disgraced BBC host in an open letter.

She tells him he caused “immense pain and suffering” to her and her son in the pursuit of his “sick pleasure”.

Edwards, 62, is due to be sentenced today over indecent images of children as young as seven found on his mobile phone.

Seven of the 41 he admitted to receiving were in Category A — the most serious classification.

The mother of the young man who Edwards paid tens of thousands of pounds to in return for sexually explicit pictures says the former news anchor should be locked up.

She writes: “Edwards has exploited very young children for his own sick ends and in my mind should go to prison.

“It breaks my heart as a mother to know that the man who groomed and controlled my son also shared the worst kind of child abuse picture.

“No paedophile who enjoys pictures of young kids should be free on the street.”

Edwards is facing a possible jail sentence when he appears in court today and could spend the rest of his life on the sex offenders register.

The anguished mum of Huw Edwards’ young victim has told the shamed BBC star: “All we cared about was stopping you.”

She poured her heart out in an open letter after she exposed the shamed News at Ten presenter for sending her teenage son tens of thousands of pounds in return for sexually explicit pictures.

Williams first got touch with the presenter because he was randomly messaging famous people to see who responded.

He pleaded guilty in March to seven offences relating to possessing and distributing indecent images.

He was handed a 12-month jail term suspended for two years.

Seven of the images fall under Category A – the most serious classification.

This included two moving images of a young child, possibly aged between seven and nine years old.

He also had photos of other children aged between 13 and 15 stored on his phone.

A further 12 images were classed as Category B and 19 as Category C.

The court heard in July that Edwards did not create any of the images himself.

The charge of making indecent images can mean opening an email attachment, downloading a picture or receiving an image via social media.

In mitigation, Philip Evans KC, defending, claimed Edwards did not make payments to Williams in order to receive indecent images of children.

How are indecent images defined and categorised?

Under section 1 of Protection of Children Act 1978, it is an offence to possess indecent photographs of children.

The images are categorised under three groups ranging from A – the most serious – to C.

    • Category A: Explicit material involving penetration, sexual activity with an animal or sadism (deemed the most severe).
    • Category B: Explicit material that is non-penetrative sexual activity (the mid-range in terms of seriousness).
    • Category C: Explicit material involving erotic posing (the least severe).

He also claimed Edwards did not take any “gratification” from the pictures and videos.

The lawyer added: “Mr Edwards wishes to apologise. He wishes the court to know how profoundly sorry he is. He recognises the repugnant nature of such images and the hurt that is done to those who appear in such images.

“For his part in that, he apologies sincerely and he makes it clear that he has the utmost regret.

“He recognises he has betrayed the priceless trust and faith of so many people. He knows that he has hurt and damaged his family and his loved ones around him.

“He is truly sorry and he is truly sorry that he has committed these offences.”

But the court was told Edwards was described as being at a “medium” risk of causing harm to children.

JPs also heard has suffered from depression and mental health issues.

He is currently doing well “therapeutically” in the psychiatric unit of the hospital environment where he is being treated.

But this may not last if taken out of that bubble, the prosecutor said.

Mr Hope added that “his decision-making across the relevant time may have been adversely impaired by a mixture of mood disorder, neuro-cognitive disorder and alcohol consumption”.

Edwards quit the BBC in April after 40 years reporting on some of the world’s biggest stories.

This included leading coverage of the Queen‘s funeral and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s wedding.

He was one of the BBC’s highest-profile and highest-paid presenters with a pay bracket between £475,000 and £479,999 for the year 2023/24.

The BBC confirmed it knew in November their star newsreader had been arrested but kept paying him for another five months.

The Sun revealed previously how the dad-of-five has now split from his TV producer wife.
