Foreign companies outpace locals in tax payments to Nigeria on weak naira boost

Nigeria’s foreign exchange (FX) unification policy, implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in June 2023, aimed to simplify the country’s multiple exchange rate system by consolidating it into a single market-driven rate. The policy was designed to boost investor confidence, eliminate arbitrage opportunities, and address chronic FX shortages that plagued the economy. However, …

Tottenham star Brennan Johnson quits Instagram after abuse from fans following performance in 1-0 loss to Arsenal

BRENNAN JOHNSON deactivated his Instagram account after Tottenham’s North London derby defeat to Arsenal.

The Wales star copped flak from supporters for his performance, particularly after firing a decent chance well over just before the break when the scores were level.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners side went on to take all three points thanks to Gabriel’s 64th-minute header, and four minutes later Johnson was substituted.

Players can often receive abuse on social media after poor displays and results.

And Johnson, 23, took action by turning off his Instagram account.

He had previously been a fairly active user, posting both football-related content and pictures from his personal life.

Johnson joined Spurs a year ago from Nottingham Forest in a £47.5million deal.

He scored five goals and grabbed ten assists last term, but has failed to register either in four appearances this term.

The wideman did force an own goal from Newcsatle’s Dan Burn in the 2-1 loss on Tyneside before the recent international break.

But some fans have accused him of a lack of consistency given his hefty price tag.

Many of his team-mates reacted to the loss on their social media accounts.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, defender Cristian Romero and midfielder Yves Bissouma all expressed their frustration.

Manager Ange Postecoglou claimed that Spurs “controlled” the match but were undone for losing focus as Arsenal scored the winner.

He told club media: “It’s disappointing, obviously.

“It’s a big game for us, for our supporters and obviously not winning and losing that game is disappointing and painful.

“It’s pretty similar to the other games this year.

“We’ve controlled the game, we’ve played in the right areas, we just didn’t execute again in that final third like we should have.

“We had some good chances, we had opportunities to create more good chances and against good teams, if you don’t do that… and then we switched off for a set piece and you pay the price.”

Arsenal ratings vs Spurs as Gabriel is the hero in feisty North London derby

GABRIEL headed in the only goal of the game as a depleted Arsenal snatched all three points in the North London Derby.

Here’s how SunSport’s Lloyd Canfield rated the Gunners players…

DAVID RAYA – 8/10

Commanded his area well, and was a safe pair of hands throughout the game. Another great showing in what has been a spectacular start for the Spanish stopper.

JURRIEN TIMBER – 7

Did well from an attacking perspective, charging down the left hand side on various occasions. Solid defensively too against Spurs’ flying right side of Johnson and Porro.

Some would argue he should’ve been sent off for a challenge on Pedro Porro in the first half, but he escaped despite squaring up to Vicario in the aftermath.

WILLIAM SALIBA – 8

A really good recovery challenge in the first half to deny Dominic Solanke, despite being booked early on.

You can always count on Saliba to put in a solid display, and he didn’t disappoint today with fantastic passing out from the back too.

GABRIEL – 9

A fantastic defensive showing throughout, reinforced with a towering header inside the box to give his side the lead from a set piece (shock).

Has formed an impeccable partnership with Saliba, personified by their heartwarming celebration together after the opener. He’s the man.

BEN WHITE – 6

Gave away the ball in a dangerous position in the first half, with Solanke failing to capitalise and had a tough first half against the quick feet of Heung Min-Son.

Was not able to demonstrate the dangerous right-hand side overlap we saw work so effectively last season, but wasn’t threatened in the second 45.

JORGINHO – 4

Struggled to replace the suspended Declan Rice for this North London derby, whom the Gunners really missed.

A tough task, but didn’t come close to matching Rice’s intensity or ability to drive the ball up the pitch which left Arsenal weak in the forward areas.

THOMAS PARTEY – 5

Struggled in transition with Jorginho alongside him, another player who felt the full force of no Rice and Odegaard.

Not fast enough with or without the ball, and will need to perk his ideas up for City next week.

GABRIEL MARTINELLI – 6

Looked like a bright spark with his running and forward movement, but was let down by his end product or lack thereof.

Worked really really hard throughout, just looks short of confidence in the last actions.

LEANDRO TROSSARD – 6

Dropping deeper into more of a midfield role than he’s used to today, it should be noted that he did a job for the team when they needed him.

Not the flying efficiency machine we have seen him be from the bench, but his versatility will be needed this season it seems.

BUKAYO SAKA – 7

Didn’t make the kind of impact on the game we are used to seeing from the brilliant Bukayo Saka, and looked less of a threat without Martin Odegaard to combine with.

Did some really good defensive work nonetheless, and delivered the perfect corner to claim the assist for Gabriel’s opener.

KAI HAVERTZ – 6

A good header in the first half was saved well by Vicario in the spurs net – actually made more clearances (3) than he managed shots on target (2) in the first 45.

Was a handful for the Spurs defence, but largely nullified by the pace and power of Mickey Van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

‘Your reputation is in tatters’, judge tells Huw Edwards as disgraced star sentenced for paying for child sex images

HUW Edwards’ reputation has been left “in tatters” after it emerged he paid a convicted paedophile for child sex images, a judge blasted.

The disgraced newsreader, 63, was today handed a suspended jail term for his depraved crimes.

Edwards paid paedophile Alex Williams, 25, up to £1,500 for vile videos and images of children as young as seven.

Chief Magistrate, district judge Paul Goldspring, said: “It’s obvious that until now you were very highly regarded by the public.

“You were perhaps the most recognised newsreader and journalist in the UK.

“It is not an exaggeration to say your long-earned reputation is in tatters.”

The judge also said any reputational and financial damage was the “natural consequence of your behaviour which you brought upon yourself”.

He also told Westminster Magistrates’ Court how Edwards was described as a “complex individual with a psychologically challenging upbringing”.

A pre-sentence report found his relationship with his dad “was particularly challenging and probably damaging psychologically”.

This led to an “enduring cognitive dissonance and low self-esteem”, which was “compounded by a sense of being inferior” by not getting into Oxford University and going to Cardiff instead.

In turn, this led to Edwards “being therefore something of an outsider at the BBC“.

The judge also highligted another pre-sentence report written by a “forensic psychosexual therapist”.

This told how Edwards managed his mental health through social media, which helped find him both men and women to be “sexual” with.

It added: “The feelings of being desirable and unseen alongside Mr. Edwards’ unresolved sexual orientation created a perfect storm where he engaged in sexual infidelities and became vulnerable to people blackmailing him.”

The disgraced presenter held his hands together as he was handed six sentence, suspended for two years.

He is also ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for seven years and pay £3,128 in costs and a victim surcharge.

He issued a grovelling apology for his “repugnant” crimes – saying he has the “utmost regret” for “damaging his family and loved ones”.

Following his sentencing, a BBC spokesperson said: “We are appalled by his crimes.

“He has betrayed not just the BBC, but audiences who put their trust in him.”

The court was told Edwards was sent 41 images – including two videos of a boy as young as seven – by Williams.

He paid between £1,000 and £1,500 for the images, which he described as “amazing”.

Williams, who trawled the dark web for the vile pictures and videos, then used the cash to support himself at university.

He also asked Edwards to buy gifts for him in exchange for “all the hot videos” – including a pair of Air Force 1 trainers for Christmas.

On one occasion, the predator asked if Edwards wanted sexual images of a person whose “age could be discerned as being between 14 and 16”.

The newsreader replied: “Yes xxx”.

Paedo's pattern of behaviour

By Scarlet Howes

NIGHT after night he sternly delivered the most important news to the nation, with his authoritative style winning countless awards.

But away from his famous desk, as we have discovered, Huw Edwards was a manipulative paedophile who used the same pattern of behaviour time and time again to feed his relentless desires.

Some 437 days since the Sun’s bombshell front page – Edwards today appeared in court to learn his fate, his once glittering career in ruins.

Our exclusive that he paid a youngster thousands of pounds for sexual pictures made headlines around the globe and set into motion a series of events which plunged the BBC into crisis.

And Edwards – at the time the BBC’s highest earning newsreader – never again appeared on our screens.

Today, a court heard Edwards paid a younger convicted paedophile £1,500 for child sex images and videos of children which he described as “amazing”.

The case centred on messages between sex offender Alex Williams, who was a teen when they struck up a relationship, and 63-year-old Edwards.

We must be clear, the facts of that case are unrelated to our original story.

But there are some alarming similarities in his exchanges with both young people – and a pattern of deeply disturbing behaviour.

He made contact with both on social media, messaged them on WhatsApp, harassed them for pictures, and then gave them money.

There were kisses involved and Christmas presents given.

Chillingly, he even bought both of them, who are decades younger, a pair of trainers.

And all in exchange for sexual pictures.

Cash was used as leverage to the men, one homeless, the other a student, who could only dream of earning his top salary.

What The Sun uncovered was a pattern of behaviour and had we not done so Edwards’ could well have remained undetected.

He also told williams “go on” when asked if he wanted “naughty pics and vids” of somebody described as “yng”.

Edwards had engaged in an online chat with 25-year-old Williams between December 2020 and August 2021.

During this time, the paedo sent Edwards 377 sexual images, of which 41 were indecent images of children.

Williams first got touch with the presenter because he was randomly messaging famous people to see who responded.

He pleaded guilty in March to seven offences relating to possessing and distributing indecent images.

He was handed a 12-month jail term suspended for two years.

Seven of the images fall under Category A – the most serious classification.

The court heard in July that Edwards did not create any of the images himself.

The charge of making indecent images can mean opening an email attachment, downloading a picture or receiving an image via social media.

Rani Govender, Child Safety Online Policy Manager at the NSPCC, said: “Online child sexual abuse is at record levels and offenders like Edwards who fuel this crime should be in no doubt about its severity and the impact it has on victims.

“Companies must also act by putting technology in place that can identify and disrupt child abuse images being shared on their messaging services so victims can be safeguarded and offenders prosecuted.

“If anyone is sent or sees a child abuse image online they should report it immediately. The NSPCC Helpline is available for advice and support in this situation or if you are concerned about the safety of a young person.

“You can contact the NSPCC Helpline by calling 0808 800 5000 or emailing help@NSPCC.org.uk.” ENDS

Easy changes in each room to cut energy bills by up to £400 ahead of price cap rise within WEEKS

HOUSEHOLDS around the country are set to face higher energy bills this winter after the new price cap comes into effect on October 1.

The cap will rise from the current rate of £1,568 a year to £1,717.

a woman covering her mouth while reading a letter
Energy bills are set to go up when the price cap rise comes into force

This means the average household paying by direct debt for dual fuel will see their annual bill go up by £149, or around £12 a month – a 10% increase.

But bear in mind the exact amount you pay can be higher or lower depending on your usage, and the cap is reviewed every three months.

Around 29 million households are on standard variable tariffs which are affected by the price cap, according to Ofgem.

The energy regulator said the price a supplier can charge for gas will rise from 5.48p per kWh today, to 6.24p from October 1.

The price of electricity will rise from 22.36p per kWh to 24.50p, Ofgem said.

Standing charges, which cover things like maintaining the network and operational costs, will rise to 31.66p from 31.41p a day for gas and from 60.12p to 60.99p for electricity.

To help you plan your spending over the winter months, we have spoken to Nicholas Auckland, heating and energy expert at Trade Radiators.

He shared some easy changes you can make in each room of your home to cut your energy bills by up to £400, based on the three months from October 1 to December 31, before the next price cap comes into force.

His tips include switching to a different appliance or changing the way you use some of your existing gadgets.

All the changes Nicholas shared are based on the new price cap.

Living room

The appliances that eat up the most energy in the living room are TVs and games consoles, although these are often found in other rooms too, for example in bedrooms.

Here is the breakdown of energy consumption for some of the main appliances, as explained by Nicholas.

TV: If a TV uses 100W, then it would cost roughly 20p a day if it’s on for eight hours, and £6.20 for a 31-day month.

If a home has four televisions on for four hours a day, this would work out at £24.80 per month.

Games console: Games consoles still use energy even when they’re in standby, which is a major factor on the cost, Nicholas said.

Different types of consoles use different amounts of energy, however the expert said Playstation tends to use more than XBOX.

On average, they can use around 150-300 watts, but a 200W games console would cost roughly 37p per day if used for five hours.

This works out at £11.47 per 31-day month, and it would be doubled to £22.94 per month if your home has two.

Nicholas said swapping your electric heater for a heated blanket can help you save money[/caption]

Electric heater: A high energy 2kW electric heater can cost 49p per hour, so £2.49 for just six hours of usage.

If you have an electric heater on for a 31-day month, it will cost you £77.19.

Nicholas said: “Electric heaters are more expensive to run generally than a gas boiler and radiators.”

Recommendations: Use a heated blanket instead of an electric heater.

A heated blanket uses about 100-150W, so if it was on for the same duration as the electric heater above (six hours), then it would be just 22p to run per day, making a saving of £2.27 per day, and £70.37 per month.

This applies to any room including a bedroom, where using a heated blanket is likely most common.

Kitchen

In a kitchen, the main appliances consuming energy are fridge freezers, washing machines, tumble dryers, ovens and dishwashers.

Here are Nicholas’ estimates based on the new price cap – including some recommendations to save a few pounds on your bills.

Fridge freezers: As they have to stay on all the time, fridge freezers use roughly 1.2kWh per day.

This works out at 29p a day or £8.99 per 31-day month.

Washing machine: A 2kW machine running a full load for an hour costs roughly 49p per load, which would work out at £7.35 if ran 15 times in one month.

Homes that wash for an hour every day will see it cost £15.19 per 31-day month.

But keep in mind that some washing machines will run for longer, so this will bring the cost up.

Nicholas says you should only run a full cycle when you have a full load of clothes to wash[/caption]

He added ovens use more energy than air fryers so that’s an easy swap you could do[/caption]

Tumble dryer: A 3kW dryer running for one hour costs roughly 74p per load.

This works out at £11.10 if ran 15 times in one month, or £22.94 if ran every day in a 31-day month.

It also must be noted that tumble dryers often take much longer to successfully dry clothes – with some of them taking over two hours, meaning that it will be more expensive to run.

Oven: Electric ovens use around 2-3 kW, so having it on for an hour works out at roughly 61p – or £4.27 weekly.

If you have it on for an hour a day, every day for a 31 day month, it would cost £18.91.

And if you’re cooking a lot, this will cost even more, Nicholas said.

Dishwasher: A dishwasher uses roughly 1-1.5 kWh per cycle, which is around 24p, so if you’re putting on a cycle every single day, then it would cost £7.44 per 31 day month.

Recommendations: Air drying your clothes instead of using a tumble dryer “will save a substantial amount of money”, Nicholas said, but you’ll need to be wary of excess condensation caused by drying clothes indoors.

He added: “I recommend opening windows, or putting on a dehumidifier while drying to speed up the process and do a more beneficial job.”

The expert said you should also only wash full loads for a full cycle to avoid wasting energy, adding that if you only have a couple of items to wash, you should either wait until you have a full load or run a quick 15-20 minute wash instead.

He said: “This will save a lot of energy and money in the long run by minimising the amount of full washes you do.”

Another tip to save money once the price cap rise comes into place is using an air fryer instead of an oven as these appliances are more energy efficient.

Nicholas explained: “A 1kW air fryer will cost around 25p an hour, and you’ll likely need it on for just minutes at a time.

“If you do all your cooking in the air fryer for one week and you’re a single person household, then this could work out at 25p a week, which is cheaper than running a full oven for an hour.

“This is why so many people have decided to switch to using air fryers full time.”

This is £4.02 cheaper weekly compared to using an oven – and the savings add up to around £16.08 monthly.

He also said that if you boil water with a kettle and then use it to wash your plates and cutlery by hand, this could also help you save money.

“Heating 1ltr of water costs roughly 3p when using a kettle, so using this to wash your plates and cutlery means that you’re saving 21p per day,” Nicholas explained.

If you compare these costs to the price of running a dishwasher, you could save £9.30 per month.

How do I calculate my energy bill?

BELOW we reveal how you can calculate your own energy bill.

To calculate how much you pay for your energy bill, you must find out your unit rate for gas and electricity and the standing charge for each fuel type.

The unit rate will usually be shown on your bill in p/kWh.The standing charge is a daily charge that is paid 365 days of the year – irrespective of whether or not you use any gas or electricity.

You will then need to note down your own annual energy usage from a previous bill.

Once you have these details, you can work out your gas and electricity costs separately.

Multiply your usage in kWh by the unit rate cost in p/kWh for the corresponding fuel type – this will give you your usage costs.

You’ll then need to multiply each standing charge by 365 and add this figure to the totals for your usage – this will then give you your annual costs.

Divide this figure by 12, and you’ll be able to determine how much you should expect to pay each month from April 1.

Bedroom

Nicholas said his heated blanket tips also apply to the bedroom, but also shared more changes you can implement to save money.

These include opting for thicker bedding such as heavy duvets and blankets that can reduce the need to have your electric heater, radiator or heating on for too long.

He said you should also remind to set a time on your electric heater or radiator so that it’s not on when you don’t needed.

In addition to saving money, this is also a key safety element, Nicholas said, as you should never leave an electric heater on overnight, if unattended.

He added: “If you’re looking to buy an electric heater, buy one with a thermostat and timer options so that it can be used optimally and safely.”

Bathroom

Nicholas said the main ways to save money in the bathroom are showing for a shorter length of time or using cooler water.

This is the breakdown of costs the expert shared, based on the new price cap.

Electric showers: An electric shower of 9.5kW running for 20 minutes per day would cost roughly 78p per day.

This works out at £24.18 per 31-day month.

However, it’s important to note that some households have more residents and more showers, so their consumption will likely be higher.

If you had two showers, and each was ran for 20 minutes per day, then it would be £1.56 per day.

This works out at £48.36 per 31 day-month.

And if everyone in a four-person household used the shower for 20 minutes per day, then it would cost £3.12 per day, and £96.72 per 31 day month.

Recommendations: Showering for 10 minutes instead of 20 would save 39p per shower, and showering for five minutes would save roughly 58p, said Nicholas.

A four-person household would spend around £71.92 a month if showering for five minutes a day – a saving of £24.80.

And the reason why showering in cooler water can help you save money is because less electricity is required to heat up the water to a lower temperature.

General energy-saving tips

Nicholas also shared some more general energy saving tips, including unplugging devices when they’re not in use.

He said: “Unplug devices when they’re not in use. Standby mode still uses power, so unplugging them completely is a great way to save money, and also safer in terms of electrical/fire safety.”

The expert also recommends replacing standard lights with LED lights as they use 80% less energy than halogen or incandescent bulbs.

He said installing a smart meter from your energy provider can help you monitor how much energy you’re using and also work out which appliances use more energy.

Finally, Nicholas said it’s important to speak to your energy provider so you can find the right tariff for you.

He told The Sun: “Some homes will find it cheaper to be on a variable tariff, while some will find it cheaper to be on a set tariff.

“If you have a smaller home with less residents, a variable tariff could be best for you. “The majority of decent energy providers will help you find the cheapest price possible”.

What energy bill help is available?

THERE'S a number of different ways to get help paying your energy bills if you're struggling to get by.

If you fall into debt, you can always approach your supplier to see if they can put you on a repayment plan before putting you on a prepayment meter.

This involves paying off what you owe in instalments over a set period.

If your supplier offers you a repayment plan you don’t think you can afford, speak to them again to see if you can negotiate a better deal.

Several energy firms have grant schemes available to customers struggling to cover their bills.

But eligibility criteria varies depending on the supplier and the amount you can get depends on your financial circumstances.

For example, British Gas or Scottish Gas customers struggling to pay their energy bills can get grants worth up to £2,000.

British Gas also offers help via its British Gas Energy Trust and Individuals Family Fund.

You don’t need to be a British Gas customer to apply for the second fund.

EDF, E.ON, Octopus Energy and Scottish Power all offer grants to struggling customers too.

Thousands of vulnerable households are missing out on extra help and protections by not signing up to the Priority Services Register (PSR).

The service helps support vulnerable households, such as those who are elderly or ill, and some of the perks include being given advance warning of blackouts, free gas safety checks and extra support if you’re struggling.

Get in touch with your energy firm to see if you can apply.

If you find you are still struggling with bills, the Household Support Fund could be an option for you.

This cash is handed out by local councils across England – each has its own criteria – but it is usually reserved for those on a low income or benefits.

Contact your local council to find out if you could qualify.

You should also get in touch with your energy provider as firms offer grants to customers who are struggling with bills.

Huw Edwards was ‘arrogant’ at court and ‘left in anger’ while mugshot ‘is attempt at bravado’, body language expert says

HUW Edwards was “arrogant” at court and “left in anger” while his mugshot showed an “attempt at bravado”, claimed a body language expert.

The veteran presenter, 63, today avoided jail at Westminster Magistrates’ Court and was given a six month suspended sentence for two years.

A body language expert said he ‘could be seen to border on arrogance’[/caption]

In court, he walked from the dock and politely smiled at the female usher, as seen by one of The Sun’s reporters.

While in the dock, Huw leant forward staring at the judge with his hands in a prayer like position by his mouth as he listened.

When the case was being opened, Edwards’ eyes darted from the floor, to the ceiling and the walls.

He sat and held his chin in his hand as the judge explained the sentencing and read out some of his background.

Edward’s was then told to stand for judge to pronounce his tariff and sighed before going to see the court probation officer.

Body language analysis expert Judi James told The Sun: “Huw Edwards’ entrance to court involved a very similar body language vibe to those of his previous court appearances, that could be seen to border on arrogance, except this time he was pulling a suitcase with one hand.

“His face looked grim as he exited the taxi but he seemed to perform an ego and confidence re-boot, pulling up and gradually raising his chin so the clamped mouth and frown looked like rituals of resilience.

“His free arm swung like a march and both arms were held away from his torso suggesting no desire to hide or self-protect.

“He nodded greetings as he walked and even held his face towards the press cameras as though ensuring they got a good view and a good shot.

“He could have been any celebrity going into a five star restaurant and acknowledging the fans outside.”

It comes as…

Speaking about her analysis of Huw’s mugshot, the expert said: “There’s a slight sense of status here as Edwards clamps his lips together and pulls his brows into a dour frown while launching a hard stare at the camera.

“The eye stare looks challenging rather than timid.

“It’s not quite in the same league as Trump’s baleful stare mugshot but it has a sense of implied bravado.

“The exit pose here shows signs of what looks like anger.

“There are the scowling eyes and the jutting lower jaw and the way his head seems to have dipped and his hands pulled upward in a gesture of what could be shock.”

It comes after Edwards was given a six month suspended sentence for two years and put on the sex offenders register for seven years.

The court heard how Edwards was given the images in a depraved WhatsApp chat by convicted paedo Alex Williams.

Edwards had engaged in an online chat with 25-year-old Williams between December 2020 and August 2021.

During this time, the paedo sent Edwards 377 sexual images, of which 41 were indecent images of children – including two videos of a boy as young as seven.

Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard he paid between £1,000 and £1,500 for the images, which he described as “amazing”

On one occasion, the predator asked if Edwards wanted sexual images of a person whose “age could be discerned as being between 14 and 16”.

The newsreader replied: “Yes xxx”.

Williams later sent Edwards a full file containing around 30 attachments – including indecent images of children.

He also warned the paedo “don’t send anything underage”, the court heard.

On August 11, 2021, Williams contacted Edwards and told him he had some “naughty” images”.

Edwards told him to “go on”, and Williams says “young” before the newsreader repeated himself.

Williams said the victim in the image is quite young looking – causing Edwards to reply that “ages can be deceptive”.

When the paedo suggested that some of the images may be illegal, Edwards replied: “Ah ok, don’t”.

BBC breaks silence on Huw Edwards and reveals ‘betrayal’ as star dodges jail

By Jonathan Rose

THE BBC has issued a statement on Huw Edwards describing his “betrayal” as the disgraced star was spared jail today.

The former Beeb presenter, 63, previously admitted three charges of “making” indecent photographs after he was sent 41 illegal images by convicted paedophile Alex Williams over WhatsApp.

At Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, Edwards was handed six months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years.

And a BBC spokesperson said after its former broadcaster Edwards was sentenced: “We are appalled by his crimes.

“He has betrayed not just the BBC, but audiences who put their trust in him.”

Edwards avoided a jail sentence after he pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.

He had faced a maximum 12 months in jail for the offences after a judge kept the case at magistrates court rather than sending it to crown.

Seven of the images fall under Category A – the most serious classification.

This included two moving images of a young child, possibly aged between seven and nine years old.

He also had photos of other children aged between 13 and 15 stored on his phone.

A further 12 images were classed as Category B and 19 as Category C.

The court heard in July that Edwards did not create any of the images himself.

In mitigation, Philip Evans KC, defending, claimed Edwards did not make payments to Williams in order to receive indecent images of children.

He also claimed Edwards did not take any “gratification” from the pictures and videos.

The lawyer added: “Mr Edwards wishes to apologise. He wishes the court to know how profoundly sorry he is. He recognises the repugnant nature of such images and the hurt that is done to those who appear in such images.

“For his part in that, he apologies sincerely and he makes it clear that he has the utmost regret.

“He recognises he has betrayed the priceless trust and faith of so many people. He knows that he has hurt and damaged his family and his loved ones around him.

“He is truly sorry and he is truly sorry that he has committed these offences.”

But the court was told Edwards was described as being at a “medium” risk of causing harm to children.

JPs also heard has suffered from depression and mental health issues.

He is currently doing well “therapeutically” in the psychiatric unit of the hospital environment where he is being treated.

A BBC spokesperson said after its former broadcaster Huw Edwards was sentenced: “We are appalled by his crimes.

“He has betrayed not just the BBC, but audiences who put their trust in him.”

The real Huw Edwards will be exposed in a new Sun documentary – Hue Edwards: Unmasked, later today which lifts the lid on the predatory paedophile.

Williams, who trawled the dark web for the vile pictures and videos, then used the cash to support himself at university.

He also asked Edwards to buy gifts for him in exchange for “all the hot videos” – including a pair of Air Force 1 trainers for Christmas.

Williams also demanded hundreds of pounds a go for the images.

EDWARDS UNMASKED

By Scarlet Howes | Sun Investigations Team

THE mum of a teen sent vile messages by Huw Edwards has hit out at the disgraced BBC host in an open letter.

She tells him he caused “immense pain and suffering” to her and her son in the pursuit of his “sick pleasure”.

Edwards, 62, is due to be sentenced today over indecent images of children as young as seven found on his mobile phone.

Seven of the 41 he admitted to receiving were in Category A — the most serious classification.

The mother of the young man who Edwards paid tens of thousands of pounds to in return for sexually explicit pictures says the former news anchor should be locked up.

She writes: “Edwards has exploited very young children for his own sick ends and in my mind should go to prison.

“It breaks my heart as a mother to know that the man who groomed and controlled my son also shared the worst kind of child abuse picture.

“No paedophile who enjoys pictures of young kids should be free on the street.”

Edwards is facing a possible jail sentence when he appears in court today and could spend the rest of his life on the sex offenders register.

The anguished mum of Huw Edwards’ young victim has told the shamed BBC star: “All we cared about was stopping you.”

She poured her heart out in an open letter after she exposed the shamed News at Ten presenter for sending her teenage son tens of thousands of pounds in return for sexually explicit pictures.

Meet Britain’s ‘poshest neighbours from hell’ who held all-night ‘end of the world’ parties with laser shows

A BRITISH property tycoon, dubbed the “poshest neighbour from hell,” hosted all-night Ibiza-style parties with “thumping” music in his £65million house.

Dad-of-three Giles Mackay infuriated locals with the noisy bashes reportedly held with Serbian socialite Khristina Sysoeva at his Kensington mansion.

The 62-year-old’s life away from the boardroom was often captured in the headlines with the millionaire’s lavish parties at the forefront.

In 2018, he appeared before the City of London magistrates for breaching a noise abatement order during an “end of the world” themed party.

The court heard how his all-night parties had become a sensation for the rich and young Londoners.

Photos from the Mackays’ parties can still be viewed today, showing how one event in 2015 featured a laser light show over the property’s pool.

The millionaire Brit, born in Surrey, was forced to pay £7,402 after pleading guilty to breaching the noise abatement order.

Police had arrived at the property at 4am to find “thumping” music, the court heard.

Mackay offered to pay the fine on the spot at the City of London Magistrates’ Court and was slammed for having a “total disregard for his neighbours”.

He claimed that his “well-organised” party didn’t exceed 50 decibels.

However, district Judge Mike Snow said: “What we know is that sitting in their car with the windows up and engine running 30 metres away, officers could hear the music.”

Furious neighbours had blasted the millionaire over his parties after he was fined.

‘IT’S UNBEARABLE’

One woman, who did not wish to be named, said: “They blast house music, which I can only describe as drug music. It’s unbearable. I have no idea how many he’s had – countless.”

Another said the music sounded like he had “just come back from Ibiza”.

She said: “He has these parties all the time. It’s throbbing music.

“It often starts at 3am or 4am and goes on for hours. It wouldn’t be so bad if he didn’t have speakers in the back garden and on the roof terrace.

“He’s famous for his Halloween parties. The last one lasted all day and all night and didn’t stop until noon the next day.

“Hundreds of people go to them, they set up marquees and have security guards.”

Nearest to a Ferrari you’ll ever get is a toy one

Giles Mackay

The property tycoon reportedly hosted all-night parties with his on-off girlfriend Khristina, 37.

He got with the Siberian socialite after his marriage to wife Caroline broke down, Mail Online reports.

The millionaire’s ex-wife accused Mackay of hiding his true wealth from her.

He appeared on the Sunday Times Rich List in 2008 with a net worth of an eye-watering £85million.

However, his wealth skyrocketed after he sold his firm Hometrack, which analyses the property market, for a whopping £120million.

Mackay made headlines in 2012 after falling out with the design team he hired to build his home on the site of a former 1930s telephone exchange in The Boltons.

A judge called him “combative and aggressive” and ordered him to pay a staggering £3.2million in damages for unpaid work.

During his dispute with the contractors, Mackay reportedly told one that their home could “fit into my dining room” and added that the “nearest to a Ferrari you’ll ever get is a toy one.”

He also said that the wife of another business partner was “avaricious and jealous” and “needing a f***ing good slap”.

Mackay recently sold the property, notorious for hosting his late-night parties, to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, for £65million.

The mega mansion features nine bedrooms, a glass lift, a basement swimming pool and a cinema.

It comes after a Channel 4 star was accused of swindling £2million from renting out an exclusive home to tenants in London.

And a millionaire sugar daddy told police how he secretly bugged his escort girlfriend – and heard her bragging she was going to “do him over” for his money

Arsenal’s North London derby hero Gabriel’s wife trolls Tottenham with hilarious picture as fans call him ‘Spurs owner’

ARSENAL fans have praised Gabriel’s wife after she brilliantly trolled Tottenham.

The centre-back scored a towering header as the Gunners beat their bitter rivals 1-0 in yesterday’s North London derby.

With Arsenal missing several key players like Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, Gabriel rose to the occasion and had a huge impact in both boxes.

After the game, he was handed the man of the match award – despite Sky Sports mixing him up with team-mate Gabriel Jesus.

He took home his accolade and his wife Gabrielle Figueiredo showed it off in style.

She first posted a photo of the award alongside the caption: “Home sweet home.”

And then she uploaded a second image of the trophy alongside the one he got last season after another excellent performance in the derby.

Gabriel earned the prize for playing a crucial role in Arsenal’s 3-2 win away at Spurs back in April.

Fans found his wife’s trolling of Tottenham brilliant, with one saying: “What a flex.”

Another added: “Spurs owner.”

A third commented: “She knows the drill.”
