A SUPERCOMPUTER has predicted the entire Champions League group stage and knockout fixtures.

But there are some shock results with Liverpool tipped to finish 18th and Arsenal once again battling to get past the quarter-finals.

Arsenal and Aston Villa are also out to impress this season[/caption]

The new European season kicks off tonight as giants like Real Madrid, Man City and Barcelona look to make their mark.

It also features a bold fresh format, with no less than 36 teams in action.

Each side now plays eight matches instead of six, with NO return fixtures – meaning there is a different opponent every time.

The top eight go through to the quarters automatically, while 9th-24th battle it out for the remaining fixtures in a special knockout round.

And Grosvenor Sport’s supercomputer has now predicted who will qualify from the group stage while going all the way to win this season’s competition.

Man City and Aston Villa are both tipped to finish in the top eight, with Atalanta a shock name in there too.

It means big names like Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen will have to play an extra round.

While Slovan Bratislava are set to finish dead last with eight straight defeats.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are backed for the knockouts with a 10th-place finish.

And Liverpool will also have to go the long way round as they are expected to finish 18th.

Both English sides are expected to eventually make it to the last-16 though.

And they will join Man City in the quarters, with Aston Villa failing to make the last eight.

City are then backed to beat Barcelona and set up a semi-final against RB Leipzig.

While Arsenal are tipped for another quarter-final KO, this time against Liverpool.

The Reds are then expected to lose to Real Madrid in the semis, with the reigning champs taking on City in the final.

But Pep Guardiola is backed to win his second Champions League trophy by defeating Los Blancos with a 2-0 win.

Meanwhile, two-time Champions League winner Owen Hargreaves has delivered some interesting predictions regarding this season’s competition.

Deciding on his dark horses, he said: “PSG, just in the way Luis Enrique plays. He plays such aggressive football and they’ve got so many really good ball players.

On the chances of England’s quartet, he added: “Man City have the best squad and they’re using four centre-backs so defensively they’re a bit more stable.

“Arsenal need a little bit more experience in the Champions League.

“To win the Champions League might take a little bit more time in the transfer windows. But they’re going to win trophies, it’s a question of when.

“Liverpool have crazy firepower. Federico Chiesa is an amazing player and he’ll suit the Premier League because he’s crazy explosive.

“I’m excited for Aston Villa as Villa Park is going to be one of the best atmospheres in Europe this season.”

New Champions League format

Each club will play eight matches in the opening phase – against seeded opposition, in a system designed to ensure that teams play opponents of similar difficulty.

The top eight teams in the “final” table will automatically go through to the last 16, where they will be joined by the eight play-off winners of ties between the sides placed ninth to 24th in the table.

Despite there being just eight matches in the opening phase, European matches will be spread over 10 midweek slots.

The new Champions League format also sees the implication of two additional qualifying spots.

They will be awarded to the nations that are top of the “country coefficient” chart each season.

I’m a mum living in a council house – I won’t ever move from this home, people say I’m taking up places but I don’t care

A MUM has hit back at trolls who say she should move form her council house – announcing she never plans to move.

Ashlan Hindle took to social media to reveal why she would never move, even if the rent is too expensive.

But it offered stability she couldn’t find anywhere else[/caption]

The mum-of-one responded to a comment that asked how people could hold onto council houses for decades when there were families more in need.

But Ashlan was quick to defend herself and her three-bed council house admitting she would have been homeless if it wasn’t for being offered social housing.

She said: “So when you get a council house, you receive a lifetime tenancy, which basically means so long as you cause no issues to your neighbours, your property is looked after, and you’re always up to date on your rent and your bills you’re here for life you also have the option to buy the property after so long.”

It’s important to note that every council has it’s own rules on this – some have five year contracts that can be reviewed and others have stopped the Right to Buy scheme.

She added one of the best parts about securing a council house was that she was stable and didn’t have to worry about rent increasing or moving every year like you would do in private housing.

Ashlan also debunked the myth that all council houses were cheap adding that it was more expensive than her privately rented home.

“My private was £545 and this is £745,” she revealed.

The mum continued: “We were desperate for a property because we were just about to be made homeless.

“But we were also umming and ahing because of the price of the property, and we were worried that would be living on the breadline.

“But when we sat down and looked at the bigger picture obviously we had the stability and we did have the income to pay the rent.

“It just didn’t leave us much left over.”

The mum shared the clip on her TikTok account @ashlan_hindle where it went viral with over 274k views and 8,000 likes.

People were quick to share their thoughts in the comments.

One person wrote: “It’s wrong you should only have a council house for the time you need it and get rid of the option to buy it’s for the next person that needs it.”

How can I get a council house?

To apply for a council home, you need to fill out and hand in an application to your local authority.

To find your local authority, simply use the Government’s council locator tool on its website.

Once you have access to your local council’s website, it should offer you guidelines on how to complete your application.

After applying, you’ll most likely have to join a waiting list.

Bear in mind, even if you are put on a waiting list, this doesn’t guarantee you a council house offer.

Your council should also offer you advice on how to stay in your current home and solve any issues you might have, such as problems with a private landlord or mortgage.

You are eligible to apply for council housing if you are a British citizen living in the UK providing have not lived abroad recently.

Each council has its own local rules about who qualifies to go on the housing register in its area, but it is based on “points” or a “banding” system.

For example, you’re likely to be offered housing first if you:

  • are homeless
  • live in cramped conditions
  • have a medical condition made worse by your current home
  • are seeking to escape domestic violence

Once you are high enough on a council’s waiting list, it will contact you when a property is available.

Some councils let people apply at the age of 18, while others let you apply even sooner at 16-year-olds.

EU workers and their families and refugees may also be eligible.

council house is reached through a points system, so depending on your housing needs, you may be considered low priority.

The council will contact you about any available property once you are high enough on the waiting list.

There is no limit on how long you can expect to be on the waiting list.

“That would be temporary accommodation then not a council house,” Ashlan replied.

Another commented: “How cruel are people, that they think someone should be given a place to make home and then chucked out later on.”

“I’ve been in my council house for 20 years now and have no plans to move,” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “Your house looks gorgeous. Congratulations.”

“It’s lovely, great you got one,” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “This is such a brilliant scheme and we need more of it. People are poor and can’t afford our own houses. Council housing for all.”

Married At First Sight UK stars baffled as groom makes ‘odd’ comment about bride’s fingers

MARRIED At First Sight groom Kieran raised eyebrows after asking unusual questions about his wife.

The Newcastle-born lad and Kristina were the first of the couple’s to tie the knot and Kieran was desperate to know the smallest details.

Before the big reveal, he said that he wanted to know how tall she is, how she smells and interestingly: how long her fingers are.

This odd intrigue sparked reaction online, resulting in many asking why he needed to know the length of her fingers.

“Why do you want to know how long her fingers are…” one wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“How long are her fingers? U ok hun?”

How long are her fingers? What you two going to be doing?

As he waited he said what he would like in his future wife.

“I expect my partner to be loving, supportive, just everything I’ve ever dreamed of.

“I expect her to look like a woman who’s no taller than five foot six because obviously I’m a short wee man.

“And I just can’t wait to see her beautiful smile.”

Kieran decided to show his cheeky side in a very risky way by wearing false teeth on his wedding day.

There was definitely a mixed response among fans of the show, with some thinking it was ‘cruel’, while others thought it was hilarious.

But luckily for Kieran, his bride Kristina found it hilarious, but appeared relieved when she discovered they were fake.

Kieran revealed that he ran away with the circus to become a clown – which explains the constant jokes.

Kristina works as an animal reiki practitioner, which is a natural healing method aimed to help soothe and calm.

She is also a dog walker by trade and runs her own animal care business.

Kristina said how she’s struggled to meet anyone new due to living in a small seaside town where “everyone knows everyone”.

She suffers from premenstrual dysphoric disorder [PMDD] and wants to find a “tall, dark, cheeky chappy” who can support her with her symptoms.

Kristina said: “I wanted to sign up because I felt like I was ready to meet the love of my life.”

Kieran also performed for his new wife at the wedding reception, singing a song he’d written himself.

Whilst she giggled through the performance, his mum was clearly not amused by the lyric: “You can take a s*** on my chest”.

“I don’t know how I would take it if my future husband was talking about s******* on his chest,” she said.

Kristina’s mum was also not impressed, she was seen shaking her head and said: “Unbelievable.”

Fears city-killer ‘God of Destruction’ asteroid could hit Earth as experts warn of deadly deflection

EARTH could collide with its deadly cosmic neighbour, Apophis, an asteroid 1,100ft (335m) wide, should a rare chain event occur, according to a new study.

Though it would be a one in a billion chance.

Researchers at ESA announced in July that they are sending out their Ramses mission spacecraft in 2028 to keep an eye on Apophis[/caption]

The near-Earth object (NEO), which is larger than the Eiffel Tower, is scheduled to make an intimidatingly close flyby of Earth on Friday 13, 2029.

It is expected to pass around 19,800 miles (32,000km) of Earth, closer than some satellites, where some stargazers may be able to see it with the naked eye.

No asteroid is expected to come as close for a few thousand years.

New research has suggested that if Apophis, dubbed the “God of Destruction”, is hit by other space rocks in its journey around the solar system, it’s path may be diverted to collide with Earth.

However, the chances of such a chain event is very low, research author Paul Wiegert, an astronomer at the University of Western Ontario, told Space.com.

“The odds are essentially 1 in a million that an asteroid strike could deflect Apophis enough to put it in danger of a future post-2029 collision, and only 1 in a billion that it could send Apophis colliding with Earth in 2029,” he explained.

Earth's closest near-misses

One of Earth's closest near-misses occurred only a few years ago.

Asteroid VT4, which is estimated to be just five to 10 metres in diameter, came as close as 383 km to the Earth’s surface in 2020.

Another close encounter happened on 31 March 2004, when meteoroid FU162 zoomed past just 6500km above Earth’s surface.

But as experts at the Royal Greenwich Observatory explain, both these asteroids would have been relatively harmless.

“FU162 is only 10m across, so if it had collided with the Earth it would almost certainly have exploded harmlessly in the upper atmosphere,” experts said.

Then in May 1996, asteroid JA1 passed the Earth 450,000km away – which is about as far away as the Moon.

Wiegert added: “I calculated the odds of asteroid Apophis, whose current path is computed to take it near but safely past our planet in 2029, being deflected onto a more dangerous path by an unexpected small asteroid impact.

“These are the same kind of small asteroids that occasionally appear in our atmosphere as ‘shooting stars’ or ‘fireballs’ and could strike Apophis just as unexpectedly.”

Wiegert noted that an asteroid roughly 60cm (24inches), if it hit Apophis, could push the giant space rock onto a future collision course with Earth, sometime after 2029.

But a second, larger, 3m (10ft) asteroid strike with Apophis could “put in danger of a collision in 2029,” said Wiegart.

“These kinds of collisions are extremely rare,” he concluded.

Ramses needs to launch in April 2028 in order to reach Apophis in February 2029[/caption]

Eyes in the sky

Apophis, named after the Egyptian serpent god of chaos and destruction Apep, was discovered in 2004 and sat atop the European Space Agency’s (ESA’s) “impact risk list” and NASA’s Sentry Risk Table for nearly two decades.

But a close flyby of the asteroid in March 2021 showed Nasa scientists that Apophis won’t actually hit Earth for at least 100 years.

Researchers at ESA announced in July that they are sending out their Ramses mission spacecraft in 2028 to keep an eye on it.

The ESA are doubling down on efforts to secure Earth’s defences against future, potentially cataclysmic, space rocks, following the success of Nasa’s DART mission in 2022.

In 2023, Nasa rebranded its OSIRIS-REx spacecraft to study the asteroid instead of being retired.

Now going by OSIRIS-APEX (Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, and Security – Apophis Explorer), the craft successfully returned samples from the space rock Bennu.

Its second mission will investigate Apophis before, during, and after its close pass.

Scientists, at both ESA and Nasa, are keen to know how the giant space rock is influenced by Earth’s gravity during such a close flyby.

What's the difference between an asteroid, meteor and comet?

Here's what you need to know, according to Nasa...

  • Asteroid: An asteroid is a small rocky body that orbits the Sun. Most are found in the asteroid belt (between Mars and Jupiter) but they can be found anywhere (including in a path that can impact Earth)
  • Meteoroid: When two asteroids hit each other, the small chunks that break off are called meteoroids
  • Meteor: If a meteoroid enters the Earth’s atmosphere, it begins to vapourise and then becomes a meteor. On Earth, it’ll look like a streak of light in the sky, because the rock is burning up
  • Meteorite: If a meteoroid doesn’t vapourise completely and survives the trip through Earth’s atmosphere, it can land on the Earth. At that point, it becomes a meteorite
  • Comet: Like asteroids, a comet orbits the Sun. However rather than being made mostly of rock, a comet contains lots of ice and gas, which can result in amazing tails forming behind them (thanks to the ice and dust vaporizing)
