Novak Djokovic reveals arguments with wife Jelena over strict parenting rule for their children

NOVAK DJOKOVIC may be the greatest tennis player of all time.

But that does not make him immune to arguments over his strict parenting techniques.

The couple got married in 2014 and have two kids – son Stefan and daughter Tara[/caption]

Doting Djokovic, 37, has two kids with childhood sweetheart Jelena, whom he married in 2014.

Son Stefan is nine while daughter Tara is seven.

However, their approaches to raising their children has caused a few rifts between Novak and Jelena – especially when it comes to the ominous area of mobile phone rules.

Speaking at the Davis Cup this week, Djokovic told Blic: “My children still don’t have a cell phone, my wife and I argue [about it].

“The kids complain, ‘At school everyone has one except us.’

“It’s not easy and this is reflected on other levels as well.

“If everyone does something, the herd behaves like this, you have to follow them.

“Well, it doesn’t have to be like that. This is where I think we differ from others, because we are stubborn and active.”

Djokovic also opened up about his role within the family during Wimbledon – but left Jelena rolling her eyes.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion – who celebrated his Centre Court wins by pretending to play the violin after Tara started lessons – was cheered on by his wife and kids throughout the tournament.

Then during one interview with the Tennis Channel, Djokovic claimed: “Out of the two parents, I’m the one who is responsible for their activities, sports, healthy lifestyle.”

Having seen his wife’s response, he smiled as he went on: “Exactly – she’s rolling her eyes right now as I’m speaking!

“I keep reminding them of how important it is to be active and do sport, whether it’s tennis, whatever it is.

“There are a lot of families and a lot of children from other players who are coming in so for them it’s also a great experience.

Tennis stars’ new careers

PLENTY of tennis stars have stayed involved in the sport since retiring.

But others pursued very different careers. Here are some of the best…

“It’s a great camp! It’s fun because I get to have quality time with them and my wife as well and then they still have friends on the side.”

Djokovic reached the Wimbledon final but lost in disappointing fashion to Carlos Alcaraz – 12 months on from their blockbuster five-set showdown.

However, the Serbian got revenge at the Paris Olympics by beating Alcaraz and securing a precious gold medal for his country.

An emotional Djokovic, who became the third man to complete the Golden Slam of all four Majors plus Olympic gold, labelled his success at Roland Garros last month as the “greatest achievement and greatest highlight of my career”.

His disappointing early exit at the US Open meant he did not add to his Grand Slam haul tally this year as Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner split them two apiece.

Djokovic needs just one more to surpass Margaret Court and stand alone as the outright all-time leader for Majors.

Arsenal fans fearing for this season with desperately thin squad as forgotten man appears in team photo

ARSENAL’s squad photo has dropped for the 2024/25 season – and there are a few surprises.

The Gunners first team lined up alongside boss Mikel Arteta at the club’s Sobha Realty Training Centre on Tuesday.

Tierney has not kicked a ball this season after picking up an injury at Euro 2024[/caption]

Summer signings Riccardo Calafiori, Mikel Merino, Neto, and Raheem Sterling all took their places in the team snap.

They were joined by youngsters Ethan Nwaneri, Lewis Myles-Skelly, Tommy Setford and Ayden Heaven from the Gunners academy.

One player some fans were surprised to see included in the 25-man photo was forgotten full-back Kieran Tierney.

The Scot was heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates over the summer.

Tierney spent last season on loan in LaLiga with Real Sociedad but was hampered by niggling hamstring issues.

The Gunners reportedly wanted £30million for Tierney just last year, after paying Celtic £25m for his services in 2019.

But following his injury-ravaged year – which ended with Tierney stretchered out of Euro 2024 – the Gunners slashed their asking price on the forgotten star.

Tierney played just 20 times for Sociedad last season and last appeared in a Gunners shirt in August 2023.

One fan responded to the team photo on X: “Forgot that Tierney was still registered for our squad.”

Another said: “The squad is so thin that we have space beside Martinelli, those guys in front are the main guys the face of the new project. 4 academy boys in the squad and Keiran Tierney too.”

And a third joked: “4 Hale End + 21 senior heads & Kieran Tierney.”

While a fourth referenced the defender’s poor injury record, adding: “At least Tierney is standing up.”

Tierney opened up on his future with the Gunners after returning from his unsuccessful loan in Spain.

The 27-year-old still has two years remaining on his contract in North London.

But he admitted in May he was unlikely to break back into the first team after falling down the pecking order.

Speaking to The Athletic, Tierney said: “Look at the squad depth in that position now.

“They have Zinchenko, Timber, Tomiyasu, Kiwior. Four players can play there.

“So if I go back and it’s the same as before then I’m not silly, I know the chances are I’ll be leaving.

“But you never know in football. You get the rare case with [William] Saliba.

“Where he came back after a couple of good seasons [out on loan] but you don’t see it too often with someone who has played for four years, left, and then come back to play again.”

Despite a mini squad crisis before the North London Derby, Arsenal took bragging rights from local rivals Spurs on Sunday.

Their 1-0 win on enemy territory continues the Gunners’ unbeaten start to the season.

Arsenal currently sit second in the Premier League, two points behind leaders Man City after four games.
