Woman, 30, dies in horror shark attack after beast bit off her leg while she was sailing on catamaran off Canary Islands

A WOMAN has died in a horror shark attack after a beast bit off her leg while she was sailing on a catamaran off the Canary Islands.

The 30-year-woman from Germany died in a Spanish Air Force helicopter as she was being evacuated to a Gran Canaria hospital.

She was pronounced dead after arriving at Doctor Negrin Hospital in the Gran Canaria capital Las Palmas last night.

The woman is said to have had her leg bitten off by the shark as she was on a catamaran in international waters 278 miles south-west of Gran Canaria’s airport.

The catamaran has been named as the British-flagged Dalliance Chichester, which had left the Canaries on September 14.

Spanish coastguards are said to have informed UK coastguards because of the origin of the catamaran.

According to local reports, Moroccan authorities refused to transfer the injured woman to Rabat for emergency medical treatment.

The unnamed woman was pronounced dead yesterday just after 11pm after going into cardiac arrest in the Spanish military chopper.

The shark attack is understood to have happened around 4pm the same day.

The catamaran is said to have sent a Mayday around 3.55pm yesterday.

Spanish coastguards reacted by alerting nearby vessels about the emergency.

One ended up approaching Dalliance Chichester to give other crew members medicine for the injured woman.

The injured woman boarded the Spanish Air Force helicopter just after 8pm.

It was not immediately clear this evening how the attack occurred.

There have been no documented previous shark attacks in the area where yesterday’s incident took place.

Dalliance Chichester is a 17 metre-long, eight metre-wide pleasure craft.

Watch hilarious moment Laura Woods cracks cheeky joke live on TNT Sports leaving Ferdinand and Crouch in stitches

LAURA WOODS got the “sniggers” she predicted from Rio Ferdinand and Peter Crouch with her mischievous introduction to TNT Sports’ Champions League coverage.

The popular presenter immediately tackled the unusual name of the Young Boys’ venue for Aston Villa’s historic Champions League night.

The broadcaster was at Swiss Boys’ stadium for Aston Villa’s 3-0 win[/caption]

Standing on the turn of the Swiss giants’ turf, Woods said: “Hello and welcome along. This is the Wankdorf Stadium. Let’s get it out of the way.

“You two have a snigger and we’ll move on like the professionals that we are.”

The Arsenal supporter was spot on with her assessment of the two Premier League legends standing next to her.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand and ex-Liverpool striker Crouch both grinned and burst into laughter.

However, Crouchie appeared to react the strongest.

He wore a huge smile but was almost wincing as he turned his head down and then away from the camera.

In contrast, Villa’s Champions League debut was no joke for Young Boys.

Youri Tielemans and Jacob Ramsey put Unai Emery‘s men in command before half-time.

Amadou Onana then smashed a late clincher on Villa‘s slick return to the elite, with their last appearance at this level coming in the 1982-83 European Cup.

Meanwhile, viewers were as amused by Woods’ opening remarks as they were by the Villans’ farcical second goal.

One responded: “Hahahahahahaha. The way Rio and Crouchy started laughing immediately.”

Another suggested: “Not many better at their job than her.”

And a third posted: “Laura in full bloom.”

But one fan reckoned her comment about the Swiss was hit ‘n miss.

He wrote: “You can actually not mention the stadium name at all…”

Boss of ‘abomination’ Titan sub threw controller at director’s head after crashing doomed vessel before deadly implosion

OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush allegedly threw a controller at a director’s head in a heated disagreement after crashing the “abomination” sub.

It comes as part of a two-week-long hearing into the tragedy that killed five people held in Charlestown, South Carolina, by the US Coast Guard.

Former OceanGate operations director David Lochridge revealed that the Rush threw the Playstation controller to the right of his head during a heated argument in 2016.

Speaking at the hearing, Lochridge claimed that Rush had insisted on piloting an earlier vessel dubbed Cyclops 1 down to the Andrea Doria shipwreck in 2016.

Lochridge said he watched warily as Rush deployed the submersible and ignored his warnings to keep his distance from the deteriorating shipwreck about 250 feet under the Atlantic Ocean.

According to Lochridge, Rush drove the sub “full speed into the port side” of the wreck’s bow and refused to listen to guidance.

He said: “It was an absolute mess.”

Lochridge added that he repeatedly tried to retrieve the controls from Rush, who refused until a paying client shouted at him.

Rush then threw the PlayStation controller at Lochridge’s head.

Lochridge later told the hearing that he compiled a report on the “abomination” Titan sub after he first inspected the Titan hull.

He said: “For me, this was my opportunity, being asked to do it prior to the sub being handed over, an abomination of a sub, this was my opportunity to raise everything that I had seen during the build and the final build of Titan.”

He said the viewport and elements of the dome ceilings deviated from standard design processes.

Lochridge claimed said he was “appalled” by the O-ring – a type of seal.

He continued: “There was so many laminations, so many voids. The imperfections were incredible. There was glue runs everywhere. And that’s a red flag.”

Everything you need to know about the missing submarine, which vanished near the Titanic on June 18, 2023.

He described the hull as “porous paper. It was disgusting”.

He added: “Everything was reused.

“They reused these domes. They reused these ceiling faces. They reused the acrylic. They reused the interior. Everything was reused. It’s all cost.”

Lochridge was fired from the company in 2018 and had signed a non-disclosure agreement, preventing him from talking about OceanGate.

The former employee said he was glad he had been subpoenaed for the hearing so he could talk about the issues he had raised.

Doomed Descent

The world was captivated when the sub vanished from sonar and failed to resurface from a dive 12,500ft down to the Titanic wreckage in the north Atlantic.

The £200k-a-head voyage promised five passengers a trip down 12,500ft to the wreck of Titanic at the floor of the Atlantic ocean.

Titan is understood to have lost contact with the Polar Prince just one hour and 45 minutes into the expedition.

Brit billionaire Hamish Harding, French diving expert Paul-Henry Nargeolet, Shahzada Dawood and his teenage son Suleman, as well as submarine boss Stockton Rush were on the doomed vessel.

How the Titan tragedy unfolded?

Five men plunged beneath the surface of the North Atlantic in a homemade sub in the hopes of exploring the Titnaic wreckage last year.

Four passengers paid £195,000 to go on the sub, with the fifth member of the trip being a crew.

But what was supposed to be a short trip spiralled into days of agony as the doomed Titan vanished without a trace on June 18, 2023.

The daring mission had been months in the making – and almost didn’t happen at the hands of harsh weather conditions in Newfoundland, Canada.

In a now chilling Facebook post, passenger Hamish Harding wrote: “Due to the worst winter in Newfoundland in 40 years, this mission is likely to be the first and only manned mission to the Titanic in 2023.

“A weather window has just opened up and we are going to attempt a dive tomorrow.”

It would be his final Facebook post.

The following morning, he and four others – led by Stockton Rush – began the 12,5000ft descent towards the bottom of the Atlantic.

But as it made its way down into the depths, the vessel lost all contact with its mother ship of the surface, the Polar Prince.

It sparked a frantic four day search for signs of life, with the hunt gripping the entire world.

There was hope that by some miracle, the crew was alive and desperately waiting to be saved.

But that sparked fears rescue teams were in a race against time as the sub only had a 96-hour oxygen supply when they set out, which would be quickly dwindling.

Then, when audio of banging sounds were detected under the water, it inspired hope that the victims were trapped and signalling to be rescued.

It heartbreakingly turned out that the banging noises were likely either ocean noises or from other search ships, the US Navy determined.

Countries around the world deployed their resources to aid the search, and within days the Odysseus remote-operated vehicle (ROV) was sent down to where the ghostly wreck of the Titanic sits.

The plan was for the ROV to hook onto the sub and bring it up 10,000ft, where it would meet another ROV before heading to the surface.

But any hopes of a phenomenal rescue were dashed when Odysseus came across a piece of debris from the sub around 1,600ft from the Titanic.

The rescue mission tragically then became a salvage task, and the heartbroken families of those on board were told the devastating news.

It was confirmed by the US Coast Guard that the sub has suffered a “catastrophic implosion”.

Unai Emery ‘fuming’ after bizarre admin error leads to WRONG Aston Villa player being subbed off in Champions League

UNAI EMERY was left fuming with the fourth official during Aston Villa’s 3-0 demolition of Swiss side Young Boys.

A bizarre admin error meant the wrong Villa player was subbed off in the 89th minute.

The Villa boss made a triple sub late in the game – but it didn’t go to plan[/caption]

Emery was left raging after the pitch side official put the wrong number up on the board.

The Villa boss saw his team wrap up the win thanks to a strike from Amadou Onana with just five minutes remaining.

He reportedly intended to remove Onana from the fray as he lined up a triple substitution.

The numbers went up on the board, with Emiliano Buendia, Ross Barkley and Ian Maatsen entering the field.

Lucas Digne and goalscorers Jacob Ramsey and Youri Tielemans were the players removed – but that didn’t appear to be Emery’s plan.

The 52-year-old be seen going wild on the touchline at the match-day officials.

Per Uefa Article 56 rules, the number put up on the officials board must match the number of the player that is taken off.

Teams cannot change it after.

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

The exchange didn’t go unnoticed by fans on X, with one laughing: “lol Villa subbed the wrong guy.”

Another added: “They took the wrong Villa player off!”

After going 2-0 up in the first half, Villa had two goals ruled out as they cruised to a comfortable win in Switzerland.

They finally made the game safe through Onana, the 23-year-old crashing a low daisy-cutter into the bottom left from 25 yards with keeper Von Ballmoos at full stretch.

It sealed an emphatic return to the Champions League for Villa following a 41-year absence.

Next up for Emery’s side are Bayern Munich on October 2.

New Champions League format

Each club will play eight matches in the opening phase – against seeded opposition, in a system designed to ensure that teams play opponents of similar difficulty.

The top eight teams in the “final” table will automatically go through to the last 16, where they will be joined by the eight play-off winners of ties between the sides placed ninth to 24th in the table.

Despite there being just eight matches in the opening phase, European matches will be spread over 10 midweek slots.

The new Champions League format also sees the implication of two additional qualifying spots.

They will be awarded to the nations that are top of the “country coefficient” chart each season.

They then welcome Italians Bologna to Villa Park before paying a visit to Belgian outfit Club Brugge in November.

However, Villa fans have been left furious by the club’s Champions League ticket prices.

The cheapest adult seat appears to start at £85, with the price climbing to £94 and then £97 for premier tickets.

For season ticket holders this scales back to £70, £79 and £82.

She opened up in her latest YouTube video, telling fans: “I cant even say what she said. Because it’s something I haven’t spoken about on here.

“But the first thing the woman said to me was about something that was going on in my life.

“Nothing thats been going on the last couple of weeks with my relationship but it was something else going on in my life
I was so taken aback because i really was sceptical.

“The woman was spot on, she was spot on about pretty much everything, she knew that I was a mum, she knew that Bambi had … the smallest things.”

Molly-Mae added: “She just go so much right, the experience was interesting and pretty accurate. So I’m glad I made the trip and I’m glad I did it.”

Claims Love Island star Tommy was “desperate” to win Molly-Mae back circulated online this month.

The Maebe founder has now re-emphasised this in her latest YouTube vlog.

She added in the video: “This next chapter of my life, and this next one with Maebe, I honestly feel it will be the best yet.”

“She’s putting all her energy into the business while maintaining a strong co-parenting relationship with Tommy.

“Molly-Mae’s only focus right now is giving her business the best lift off – this project has been a childhood dream and years in the making.”

However, Tommy has confirmed he will discuss the split in his new book.

He has been hard at work penning fresh chapters for his debut tome, Lightening Can Strike Twice.

Lauren Goodger makes bombshell claims Towie scenes with Mark Wright were ‘set up’ & his other relationships were ‘faked’

TOWIE legend Lauren Goodger has confessed that scenes from the early years of the hit reality show were “set up” in order to fit a certain narrative.

The TV star, 34, revealed that show bosses crafted certain scenes between her and then-boyfriend Mark Wright in order to make him look “bad”.

Lauren has now claimed that Mark’s other relationships were fake and purely for “the show”[/caption]

Lauren made the bombshell revelations, including that other girls he was dating on the show were simply cast for the storyline, during her explosive sit-down interview with Celebs Go Dating agent Paul C. Brunson on his brand-new podcast.

During the chat, Lauren defended her ex Mark as she admitted that although there were “difficult times”, their relationship’s issues were exaggerated in order to entertain fans of the hit ITVBe reality show.

Lauren and Mark dated for 9 years before finding fame on the TV hit which led to their romance crumbling one year later.

During the tell-all interview, Paul probed Lauren on her romance with Mark in which she revealed the first time she was “aware” Mark was with other girls was during filming for TOWIE but clarified that it was simply for a storyline.

Lauren told Paul: “We had cameras on us, we had press… ‘bad boy Mark’.

“He wasn’t a bad boy, that’s just how they [The Only Way Is Essex] portrayed him.

“What is quite hard is that yes, there were difficult times and I’m not saying it wasn’t hard but it wasn’t all bad from him.

“He was a good person and a good partner but they say ‘he treated you terribly’ – that was just for the show.”

Lauren continued to say: “We would do a scene and then go home and have tea and biscuits.

“He would arrive with another girl [on camera] but really he has arrived with me.

“That is when it got a bit complicated as people were like ‘he is seeing this one and that one’ and I am like ‘no, we arrived together, she is only on it to be on the show’.

“It was hard for me as I was trying to be understanding and just film and try and let the viewers see this storyline but not go ‘hold on a minute, he did not arrive with her!’

“It makes it look like I’m crazy!”

The Sun has reached out to a representative of The Only Way Is Essex for comment.

Mark Wright's career timeline

Since rising to fame over a decade ago as a reality TV star, popular personality Mark Wright has gone on to enjoy a successful career.

  • The Only Way is Essex (2010-2011, regular): Mark was an original Towie cast member from its October 2010 launch and spanning series 1-3. He left the programme in 2011 but has returned for a handful of cameos.
  • I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here (2011): After leaving Towie, Mark signed up for the famed ITV jungle. He finished in second place behind McFly star Dougie Poynter.
  • Heart (2012-2017; 2019 – present): Mark first joined radio station Heart in 2012, leaving five years later to pursue work in the United States. He made a return to the station in July 2019.
  • Strictly Come Dancing (2014): The star took to the Strictly ballroom in 2014, finishing fourth behind Caroline Flack, Simon Webbe and Frankie Bridge.
  • The Dengineers (2015-2017): Mark was a co-presenter of the children’s programme for its first two series. After his departure, later hosts have included Joe Swash and Meryl Fernandes.
  • Extra (2017-2020): Mark was an entertainment reporter for this US outlet for three years.
  • The Bachelor UK (2019): A revived UK iteration of the popular American dating show. Mark’s version of the programme aired on Channel 5.
  • The Challenge UK (2023): Another UK rendition of an American format, this aired on Channel 5 in February 2023.
  • Clean It, Fix It (2024 – present): Mark has joined the popular BBC daytime show from its fourth series onwards.

It comes amid claims that Mark’s current wife Michelle Keegan was left displeased with Lauren choosing to speak out over the romance on the podcast.

Michelle, 37, was understood to be “less than impressed” at Lauren going into details about her romance with Mark once again.

Last week, we reported how Lauren, also 37, had confessed the romance with Mark had “broken her” in a candid chat.

Lauren told how she felt she was “never going to love anybody else” as she raked over her past emotions in Celebs Go Dating star Paul C Brunson’s podcast, We Need To Talk.

Former ITVBe stars Lauren and Mark acrimoniously ended their eight-year relationship on the reality show back in 2012, with Mark later marrying Our Girl actress Michelle in 2015.

After the stark confessions a source has revealed the words didn’t go down well in the Wright household.

They told OK! Magazine: “It’s not that Michelle can’t sympathise with Lauren or is cross with her, she doesn’t know her at all, but she doesn’t like what she reads when Lauren talks about her.

“Mark also gets annoyed and he’s very protective of his wife and family.

“He doesn’t like them being brought up by Lauren, especially as it was so long ago.

“It’s ancient history for him.”
