The October Prime Day 2024 — officially called Prime Big Deal Days — will run from midnight on 8th October to midnight on 9th October.

The Prime Day deals will be exclusively available for Prime members to access, and the sale is a must for beauty lovers wanting to stock up on essentials or gifts ahead of the festive season.

The two-day event is a perfect time to snap up deep discounts on pricey beauty electrical items, with bargains on Dyson Airwrap dupes, Revlon hair tools and ghd straighteners all appearing in the sale in previous years.

If you want full access to the deals when they go live, you will need to make sure you sign up for a 30-day Amazon Prime free trial.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is the annual sales event exclusively for Amazon Prime members.

It first began in July 2015 as a way for the retailer to celebrate Prime members during its 20th birthday anniversary.

But it has since evolved into one of the biggest shopping events of the year for Amazon fans.

During Prime Day, Amazon offers incredible savings across a wide range of categories, with new deals launching every few minutes.

Over the last few years, following the pandemic, Amazon has chosen to host two Prime Day events each year, one in July and another in October.

The October event, which is called the Prime Big Deal Days event, is perfectly timed for organised shoppers who want to stock up on Christmas gifts at a fraction of their normal price.

How to take part in Amazon Prime Day?

The next Prime Day installment for 2024 is just around the corner...

To take advantage of all the Prime Day deals, you’ll need to be an Amazon Prime member.

If you’re not already a member, and you’ve never had a Prime account before, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial to access the deals.

By activating your free trial you’ll get immediate access to the Prime Day deals, and access to the rest of the Prime membership benefits, which include free shipping, access to Prime Video and Prime Music.

Once you’re a Prime member, simply visit the Prime Day page on the Amazon website to start shopping.

If after 30 days you decide you don’t want the membership, remember to cancel before the end of the trial period or you’ll be charged.

A monthly Prime membership costs £8.99, or you can pay £95 for an annual subscription.

When is the Prime Big Deal Days 2024 event?

Amazon has confirmed the next Prime Day will be the Prime Big Deal Days event in October.

The sale will kick off on 8th October until 9th October, with just 48 hours for shoppers to take advantage of discounts across top brands like Dyson, Revlon, Elemis, Cloud Nine, Elizabeth Arden and more.

The highly anticipated event spans over 48 hours, with a mix of offers ranging from lightning deals available for a limited time to deals for the duration of the event.

More recently exclusive discounts have been made available to Amazon Prime members before the two-day event starts, shoppers can head to the Amazon deals hub to check out current offers.

What is good to buy during Prime Day?

Prime Day offers discounts on a wide range of products, making it an excellent time to stock up on essentials or treat yourself to something special.

It is a particularly good time to purchase more expensive items such as beauty electricals or premium skincare and makeup products as often savings are comparable to other seasonal sales throughout the year.

Shoppers can check Amazon pricing over time using platforms like camelcamelcamel or price comparison sites such as Idealo and PriceSpy to ensure they really are getting the best possible deal before taking the plunge.

In terms of beauty buys, the biggest cash savings will be on high-ticket beauty items such as hair straighteners, IPL hair removal machines, electric shavers and toothbrushes.

But the sale is also a great chance to bulk buy everyday beauty essentials, which is more cost-effective in the long run.

In previous years there have been huge savings on premium ad designer beauty names such as Shark beauty, Lancôme, Elizabeth Arden, Kérastase, Colour Wow, Elemis, ghd and OPI.

However, shoppers will also find plenty of everyday skincare and makeup brands like Cerave, BioOil, Maybelline and Olay.

How to find Amazon Prime Day deals?

Finding Amazon Prime Day deals is easier than ever thanks to the dedicated Prime Day page on the Amazon website.

On the deals hub page, you can browse thousands of offers across all categories.

You can also follow Amazon on social media for real-time updates and sneak peeks at upcoming deals.

In my opinion, to make the most of Prime Day you should keep an eye out for deals leading up to the event by browsing the ‘Upcoming Deals’ section on the Amazon website or app.

You can also set reminders with an Alexa device, and add items to personalised Wish Lists or Save For Later lists.

The added bonus is that Alexa will automatically alert you when a deal on your favourite item is live.

What is a lightning deal?

There are a variety of different Prime Day deals to look out for during the event.

Alongside ‘deals of the day’, Prime shoppers can get their hands on limited-time offers called lightning deals.

These lightning deals come in limited quantities and once they are sold out they aren’t restocked – making them even more in-demand.

In the past, we have seen Prime Exclusive offers crop up, which only Prime members can take advantage of.

But these offers are often early access deals that get released ahead of the main sale event and often entice non-members to join up for the extra discounts.

On rare occasions, you will find discounts on newer released beauty or makeup items, but they often sell out fast.

Major city could dramatically cut vehicle-use with Low Traffic Neighbourhoods – motorists have just weeks to ‘speak out’

A MAJOR UK city could be cutting down on vehicle use through controversial Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) schemes under new plans.

The proposed project aims to “make it easier to catch a bus and to walk or cycle” while reducing congestion in residential areas.

LTNs have become increasingly common in big cities in recent years[/caption]

LTNs have been on the rise in recent years, especially in London.

The programmes usually involve large numbers of residential roads being closed off to all motor vehicles.

These restrictions are sometimes enforced within set hours, but it has become increasingly common for streets to be permanently blocked off by installations like planter boxers or bollards.

ANPR cameras monitor the areas and issue fines to drivers who break the rules.

The schemes have attracted plenty of support from residents and local councils, who argue that they improve public health, reduce pollution and ease congestion.

However, critics claim that they simply concentrate traffic in different areas, inconveniencing drivers and restricting freedom of travel.

Now, Bristol City Council is in the early stages of expanding its LTN scheme to more areas of the city.

Under the “Liveable Neighbourhoods” programme, the council has already implemented restrictions in eastern Bristol but is now testing similar measures in the south.

Neighbourhoods including Southville, Bedminster, Ashton Vale, Malago Vale, Windmill Hill, and part of Totterdown will be subject to the rules on a trial basis.

Residents have until October 13 to get involved in the public consultation and “speak out” about the project.

Officials are looking to gauge traffic conditions in the areas to properly design the restrictions in future.

Measures being discussed include new bus gates, trees and cycle tracks as well as changes to existing one-way systems.

Bristol City Council said: “The improvements aim to make it easier to catch a bus and to walk or cycle, with better facilities and less through traffic.

“Liveable neighbourhoods can encourage exercise, reduce loneliness, and make life better overall.

“A Liveable Neighbourhood is made up of residential streets bound by main roads, which are more suitable for carrying traffic, such as HGVs, buses and all other vehicles through an area.

“Likely measures will include stopping people using residential streets to cut through the area and moving them back onto main roads, which are designed to handle greater volumes of vehicle traffic.”

A Place In The Sun’s Laura Hamilton stuns in a bikini after revealing she’s cruelly trolled over secret boob job claims

A PLACE in the Sun presenter Laura Hamilton has shared a series of stunning bikini shots just days after she was being brutally trolled online.

Laura, 42, shared a series of snaps on Instagram after soaking up the sun in the Maldives

Laura mixed work and pleasure as she filmed a promo for the luxury resort

The mum-of-two, who is back on our screens for a new series of A Place In The Sun, jetted off to South Asia for an exciting work opportunity.

In between lounging at the beach and being pampered at The Westin Miriandoo Hotel’s spa, Laura filmed a promotional video for the resort, which she shared to her social media page.

Laura also posted some behind-the-scenes pictures from filming on her Instagram page.

In the photos, she can be seen happily posing in her bikini and enjoying a delicious-looking breakfast in the ocean, and participating in some of the activities the resort has to offer, like jet skiing.

Captioning the video, Laura said: “I loved filming this fun little feature at The Westin Miriandoo, showcasing their 5 pillars of wellness.

“I first visited the Maldives over 20 years ago, the last time I was here was 2 years ago for my 40th birthday and I was so excited to go back!

“People often say ‘there is nothing to do in the Maldives’ but each island is so different and you can choose the pace you want to take things during your stay!” she added, with her photos illustrating her point.

A Place in the Sun fans were quick to flock to the comments with messages of support and praise as they gushed over Laura’s bikini pics.

“Stunning,” said one fan.

“Beautiful,” gushed another.

While a third said: “definitely adding to my bucket list.”

A fourth praised: “Wonderful and beautiful pictures from an amazing location.”

However, while Laura received a flurry of support for her sun-filled photos, she revealed that isn’t always the case.

The Channel 4 presenter previously told The Sun that she has been on the receiving end of very cruel online trolling, with many critics believing she’s had a secret boob job.

Laura says that while she feels better than ever after years of struggling with her body confidence, trolls just won’t let it lie.

She told The Sun: “It’s really hard when you read comments like, ‘Oh, she’s done too much of this to her face.’

“And I think these are my cheekbones. I’ve done nothing to my cheekbones.

“That’s my face, and unfortunately, that’s the way it is. Or people say, ‘Oh, she’s got fake boobs’. And I’m like, I haven’t, actually. But if that’s what people want to believe.”

She added: “It’s kind of a bit laughable that people make statements and they don’t know the facts.”

Besides, she reckons as she gets older she can handle the trolls as “the older you get, I think you generally feel more well.”

Happily, Laura is tuning out the trolls wherever she can. “I feel more happy in myself and secure in myself and who I am,” she said.

Laura continued: “You always will get criticism from somebody or their not liking you, or they’ll mention that you’ve got big boobs, or small boobs, or big legs, or fat legs, or like short legs or long legs…you can never please everybody, but the only person that you’ve got to really please and worry about is yourself.

“And as long as you’re happy with yourself, then that should really be all that matters.

“Those that are really close to me, that know me, for me, my mum and dad and children, and I’m very lucky that I’ve got a close group of very supportive friends, who accept and love each other for who we are, and they know the truth.

“And that really is the most important thing,” she concluded.

Freeview watchers warned of three day TV blackout risk starting TODAY as channels face signal chaos

BRITS have been warned that Freeview channels face disruption over the next few days.

The TV service is home to more than 100 free channels and used by millions of viewers up and down the country.

Freeview says disruption could last until Friday[/caption]

Since 2014, almost 23million Freeview-capable TVs have been sold.

But relying on an aerial means that reception can sometimes run into issues.

And weather plays a big part in that.

Freeview has warned that high pressure could disrupt TV signals from today until Friday.

High pressure is a problem because it can push the signal sent from your local transmitter higher into the sky than normal, which is a problem if your signal is weak.

And if the transmitter your TV relies on is quite distant it can play havoc with your reception too.

It can also pose problems if you’re getting signal from a distant transmitter.

Freeview has urged people not to try re-tuning their box if they’re affected.

“You are advised not to retune your TV during this time – reception will be restored once the high pressure passes,” the company says.

“If you have an internet-connected Freeview Play TV, or one that has channel players available, you will still be able to watch live and on-demand content from the likes of BBC iPlayer, ITVX, All4 or My5.”

Everyone TV – the company that runs Freeview – recently launched a successor to the service called Freely which may eventually get around this problem.

While Freely can access channels the tradition way, via aerial, it also beams channels into your living room via Wi-Fi.

The idea is that one day we could have even more free channels available at our fingertips, getting around the limited space Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) offers for Freeview.

Freely recently announced that four channels were added: U&Dave, U&Drama, U&W and U&Yesterday.

How to cut streaming bills with top FREE TV

Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime don't come cheap - and year on year subscription costs seem to go up.

Fortunately there are lots of free streaming TV alternatives not everyone knows about.

Oleksandr Usyk detained after ‘attempting to defend friend who wasn’t allowed to board plane’, PR team reveals

OLEKSANDR USYK was detained at an airport after attempting to defend a friend who was denied boarding – his team said.

Shock footage surfaced on Tuesday night showing the undefeated boxing champion being led away in cuffs by officers.

But Usyk, his wife and even Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky spoke out to clarify it was a misunderstanding.

Now the boxing star’s head of PR Mykhailo Krasiuk has given their side of the story in full.

Krasiuk posted: “Ok Google, that was all about our team member, who brought @usykaafrom Kyiv by car (and it was not Lapin, as reported by some media).

“He was very tired after 14h driving and slept standing up, literally. Ryanair employees didn’t let him on the plane.

“Usyk, who was already on board, returned to the gate and tried to defend our friend, like always does.

“Meanwhile the police appeared, maybe the champ looked so dangerous that should have been handcuffed,

“(I don’t know). Anyway, everything was sorted out briefly. Thanks for your support.”

Usyk is believed to have been set to travel to London, where he will be a special guest for Anthony Joshua’s Wembley fight with Daniel Dubois.

And he was quick to speak out online after being released by airport security.

Usyk wrote: “All is well my friends. There was a misunderstanding that was quickly resolved.

“Thank you to everyone who was worried. Thank you Ukrainian diplomats for your support.

“And respect to Polish law enforcers, who perform their duties despite height, weight, arm range and regalia.”

President Zelensky, on Telegram, added: “Talked on the phone with Oleksandr Usyk when he was detained.

“I was outraged by this attitude towards our citizen and champion.

“He instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sibiza and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko to immediately find out all the details of the incident at the Krakow airport.

“As soon as I was informed that everything is fine, our champion was released and no one is detaining him anymore.”

USYK IN AIRPORT DRAMA

By Wally Downes Jr

OLEKSANDR USYK was roared on to victory in the Undisputed clash with Tyson Fury by everybody outside Russia and Morecambe.

The 37-year-old Ukraine icon has spend time on his nation’s frontline supporting underdog soldiers against Putin’s savages

And he only agreed to carrying on professional fighting when his conscripted compatriots begged him to.

He beat Daniel Dubois in a Wroclaw stadium full of Ukraineans who had escaped there to safety.

And he recently visited London to help the Ukraine embassy send a convoy of vehicles to help his battered brothers and sisters.

He is due back in our capital to be ringside for twice-dominated Anthony Joshua taking on Dubois.

And he would have gotten a huge cheer from all the 96,000 fans for his courage in and outside of the ring.

It seems highly unlikely he has been detained for anything related to his behaviour.

And much more likely to go with strict travelling rules enforced around the Eastern European regions.

The gap-toothed southpaw genius has hated leaving his four children and his wife so would not have been on a lads’ beano with too many ales at the airport Wetherspoons.

So let’s hope a modern-day hero – of Olympic gold and cruiser and heavyweight undisputed glory – is safely in Wembley or back home soon.

Usyk, 37, is coming off the biggest win of his career after beating Tyson Fury, 36, to become undisputed champion.

But his reign as the heavyweight division’s first four-belt undisputed champion did not last long.

Usyk was forced to vacate the IBF belt to proceed with his December 21 rematch against Fury back in Saudi Arabia.

Dubois, 27, instead inherited the title after being elevated from interim champ and makes his first defence against Joshua, 34.

And Usyk is due into the capital to watch Joshua’s all-British showdown against Dubois on Saturday.

And the Ukrainian hero was facing an awkward reunion with Fury as both were scheduled at a fan event at BoxPark Wembley.

Both men will take part in meet and greets with fans at what has been billed as the “official pre-fight party” just hours before the bout.
