Oleksandr Usyk detained after ‘attempting to defend friend who wasn’t allowed to board plane’, PR team reveals

OLEKSANDR USYK was detained at an airport after attempting to defend a friend who was denied boarding – his team said.

Shock footage surfaced on Tuesday night showing the undefeated boxing champion being led away in cuffs by officers.

But Usyk, his wife and even Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky spoke out to clarify it was a misunderstanding.

Now the boxing star’s head of PR Mykhailo Krasiuk has given their side of the story in full.

Krasiuk posted: “Ok Google, that was all about our team member, who brought @usykaafrom Kyiv by car (and it was not Lapin, as reported by some media).

“He was very tired after 14h driving and slept standing up, literally. Ryanair employees didn’t let him on the plane.

“Usyk, who was already on board, returned to the gate and tried to defend our friend, like always does.

“Meanwhile the police appeared, maybe the champ looked so dangerous that should have been handcuffed,

“(I don’t know). Anyway, everything was sorted out briefly. Thanks for your support.”

Usyk is believed to have been set to travel to London, where he will be a special guest for Anthony Joshua’s Wembley fight with Daniel Dubois.

And he was quick to speak out online after being released by airport security.

Usyk wrote: “All is well my friends. There was a misunderstanding that was quickly resolved.

“Thank you to everyone who was worried. Thank you Ukrainian diplomats for your support.

“And respect to Polish law enforcers, who perform their duties despite height, weight, arm range and regalia.”

President Zelensky, on Telegram, added: “Talked on the phone with Oleksandr Usyk when he was detained.

“I was outraged by this attitude towards our citizen and champion.

“He instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sibiza and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko to immediately find out all the details of the incident at the Krakow airport.

“As soon as I was informed that everything is fine, our champion was released and no one is detaining him anymore.”

USYK IN AIRPORT DRAMA

By Wally Downes Jr

OLEKSANDR USYK was roared on to victory in the Undisputed clash with Tyson Fury by everybody outside Russia and Morecambe.

The 37-year-old Ukraine icon has spend time on his nation’s frontline supporting underdog soldiers against Putin’s savages

And he only agreed to carrying on professional fighting when his conscripted compatriots begged him to.

He beat Daniel Dubois in a Wroclaw stadium full of Ukraineans who had escaped there to safety.

And he recently visited London to help the Ukraine embassy send a convoy of vehicles to help his battered brothers and sisters.

He is due back in our capital to be ringside for twice-dominated Anthony Joshua taking on Dubois.

And he would have gotten a huge cheer from all the 96,000 fans for his courage in and outside of the ring.

It seems highly unlikely he has been detained for anything related to his behaviour.

And much more likely to go with strict travelling rules enforced around the Eastern European regions.

The gap-toothed southpaw genius has hated leaving his four children and his wife so would not have been on a lads’ beano with too many ales at the airport Wetherspoons.

So let’s hope a modern-day hero – of Olympic gold and cruiser and heavyweight undisputed glory – is safely in Wembley or back home soon.

Usyk, 37, is coming off the biggest win of his career after beating Tyson Fury, 36, to become undisputed champion.

But his reign as the heavyweight division’s first four-belt undisputed champion did not last long.

Usyk was forced to vacate the IBF belt to proceed with his December 21 rematch against Fury back in Saudi Arabia.

Dubois, 27, instead inherited the title after being elevated from interim champ and makes his first defence against Joshua, 34.

And Usyk is due into the capital to watch Joshua’s all-British showdown against Dubois on Saturday.

And the Ukrainian hero was facing an awkward reunion with Fury as both were scheduled at a fan event at BoxPark Wembley.

Both men will take part in meet and greets with fans at what has been billed as the “official pre-fight party” just hours before the bout.

Amazing debut sees horse win ‘doing handstands’ as odds instantly smashed for 2000 Guineas after monstrous win

COSMIC YEAR delivered one of the most devastating debuts in recent memory after running away with this Sandown contest.

Put in the 5-2 second favourite for a 7f contest after missing his intended first run last month, Oisin Murphy never had to seriously get to work to run out an easy six-and-a-half length winner.

The win was visually jaw-dropping.

But it gets even better when you see that the beaten fav, 8-13 Rock d’Oro, had strong form having finished runner-up to subsequent Group 2 scorer Bay City Roller.

That horse was bought for mega money before his Doncaster win and is now rated 111.

Cosmic Year, who is by Kingman and out of Group 1-winning mare Passage Of Time, will have that mark – and much more – set in his sights.

The 33-1 Paddy Power offered for next year’s 2000 Guineas was immediately snapped up, while Coral went a more defensive 20-1.

You could still get 33-1 for the Derby, although Murphy said a mile is likely to be the target going forward.

Rock d’Oro’s trainer Ralph Beckett was one of those awestruck by Cosmic Year’s electrifying debut.

He said: “He’s pretty good, that winner. Rock d’Oro is a good yardstick. I’d say the winner is pretty smart.”

Four in ten Brits have never heard of a condition that plagues millions and can leave sufferers infertile

FOUR in ten adults have not heard of a common condition which can leave people suffering excess hair growth and even infertility.

A study of 2,000 men and women revealed just how many were unaware what polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is, or what symptoms it can cause.

a woman is looking at her face in the mirror

The condition, where ovaries don’t regularly release eggs, produce high levels of ‘male’ hormones and cause polycystic ovaries, is said to affect one in 10 UK women.

And seven in 10 were not aware that excessive hair growth, infertility (53 per cent) and irregular periods (46 per cent) were symptoms of the condition.

And 72 per cent of women experience at least one of the signs without necessarily knowing it could be linked to the disorder, with weight gain (24 per cent), acne or oily skin (17 per cent) and excess hair growth (10 per cent) most common.

As a result, 57 per cent wish there was more awareness of polycystic ovary syndrome, to stop it being such a taboo subject.

Chloé Fallon, beauty expert for Philips Lumea IPL hair removal devices, which commissioned the research to support PCOS Awareness Month this September, said: “This is a remarkably common condition that there’s not enough awareness of.

“It is something that affects literally millions of women around the world but is rarely spoken about openly.

“Instead, lots of women are left struggling to deal with a wide range of symptoms that can really impact their health and their confidence on a daily basis.”

The study also found 76 per cent of all adults believe men should be more informed about women’s health issues such as PCOS.

And 14 per cent of the women polled have experienced excessive hair growth on the face, chest or abdomen.

Of these, 25 per cent claim this affected their day-to-day life ‘very significantly’, while only 17 per cent weren’t affected at all.

Women who were affected felt constantly worried about their appearance (58 per cent), afraid of judgement from colleagues (32 per cent) or unable to wear certain clothes (21 per cent).

While 29 per cent avoided social situations where possible, and 16 per cent stopped dating, according to the OnePoll.com figures.

A huge 95 per cent of women attempted hair removal themselves, whether by shaving, plucking or using a hair removal cream.

And 47 per cent felt very self-conscious about the issue while they were affected.

Philips Lumea IPL hair removal devices, which claims its intense pulsed light technology products can reduce hair regrowth for up to 12 months, has teamed with social media content creator, Zoe Antonia to share her story of the condition.

She said: “My PCOS journey started at 17, with a few rogue chin hairs, raging cystic acne and irregular periods which got diagnosed as PCOS.

“My body and facial hair growth made me feel so self-conscious as a teen and I often questioned whether there was something wrong with me.

“However, along the way I learnt to accept this part of me and sharing this journey online I found out that many other women struggle with similar symptoms to me, and sharing such raw unfiltered images online became a source of strength and helped me to build confidence outside of my looks.

“Alongside various nutrition and lifestyle changes I’ve made to reduce hair growth, using my IPL hair removal device has helped me to significantly reduce my hair re-growth, especially on areas like my lower belly, upper lip and chin area.

Chloé Fallon added: “Topics around women’s health like PCOS, including the symptoms and misconceptions are important discussions to have, and ones we hope in the near future people will feel more confident openly talking about without judgement, like Zoe is able to with her followers.”
