Married At First Sight fans go crazy for the ‘real star of the show’ after he slams ‘shallow’ groom

MARRIED At First Sight fans have crowned one of last night’s faces “the real star of the show” – and they’re not even a bride or groom.

Polly Sellman’s best friend Alfie quickly endeared himself to the nation as he fought her corner after she tied the knot with barber Adam, 33.

Adam Aveling complains that Polly Sellman isn’t been what he’d been “expecting”[/caption]

It was far from love at first sight for the newlyweds with Adam admitting he wasn’t attracted to Polly.

Adam’s less than enthusiastic reception to seeing Polly for the first time, led Alfie to say: “‘I’m pretty disappointed he hasn’t complimented her. It’s just awkwardness and silence.”

Alfie sought out Polly for a one-on-one chat during the reception after Adam told him she “wasn’t his usual type”.

He said: “I still have reservations. He openly said you’re not his type. He said he normally goes for unreal brunettes.”

Viewers appreciated his honesty, with one writing: “The real star is Polly’s best friend. Very perceptive, was right on about Adam from the off.”

Another said: “Go on Alfie!! The nation is with you.”

A third shared: “Alfie speaking for us all. Tell her she looks beautiful!!!”

A fourth posted: “How lovely is Alfie Polly’s best friend? He really showed up shallow Adam for the a**ehole he is.”

Adam complained that Polly, 28, wasn’t been what he’d been “expecting” after their first meeting.

Careers advisor Polly complimented the Nottingham lad on his teeth and aftershave, but Adam failed to return the pleasantries.

In a piece-to-camera, Polly raved about “very attractive” Adam and complimented his “beefy” physique and “nice haircut”.

She gushed: “I do fancy him.”

But Adam’s thoughts couldn’t have been more different. He said: “The initial attraction’s not 100 percent there. She’s not my usual type. Ten out of ten for me would be petite, brunette, dark features, tan. She’s not what I expected.”

He isn’t the only groom to have served their bride with a brutal insult this week.

Caspar Todd, 34, told Emma Barnes, 31, he didn’t find her “curves” attractive.

The newlyweds sat down for a chat following a full 24 hours of being married.

Emma told him that she’d had a “fabulous” first day and then asked how he was feeling.

But a despondent Caspar told her: “I’ve been struggling, I don’t know if you’ve felt it. But I haven’t felt that spark I was hoping to feel.”

Later, he said: “I’ve rarely gone for the curvier person,” leaving his bride gobsmacked.

She replied: “Do you think I look sexy tonight?”

Caspar bluntly replied: “No.”

Purple Disco Machine shares some of the inspirations behind his new album, Paradise

a man wearing sunglasses and a colorful shirt stands in front of a purple background

PURPLE DISCO MACHINE presents his third studio album, ‘Paradise’, featuring a host of collaborations from the scene’s most-loved artists including the legendary Nile Rodgers, Metronomy, Jake Shears, Duke Dumont, Sophie and the Giants, Nothing But Thieves and more.

With his many accolades and chart-topping success including a Grammy win for his remix of Lizzo’s About Damn Time plus dance floor favourites Body Funk and Dished (Male Stripper)’, Rise, Playbox as well as recent singles Bad Company and Higher Ground, Purple Disco Machine has solidified himself as one of dance music’s key players.

Two and a half years in the making, the producer is now ready to transport listeners straight to the dance floor with his uplifting dose of nu-disco, having meticulously crafted what he aims to be a timeless soundtrack blending nostalgia and modernity. Can’t Stop Loving You, a stylish low-slung offering, drops the tempo at the album’s midway point; while funk-fuelled riffs take pride of place on tunes such as All My Life with Belgian producer The Magician and Heartbreaker with acclaimed electronic duo Chromeo which samples My Mine’s Hypnotic Tango. Uncompromising in its vision, closing track Die Maschine carries the album’s theme through to the end, featuring spoken word from German poet Friedrich Liechtenstein.

Commenting on the feel-good anthem All My Life, Purple Disco Machine said:

“It’s the last song I wrote for the album, and I was looking for an uplifting summer song that I could play in my sets. So, I asked The Magician who I met again at Tomorrowland last year. We first worked on the instrumental and I played it a couple of times at my shows. It worked really well, but I felt that if I wanted to add it to the album it would need a topline. So, we pitched it to different writers and this one came back as the perfect fit. It’s super catchy! I wasn’t sure at the start thinking it might be too much, but after testing it with the crowd and everyone singing along, hands up in the air, I knew it was the right addition. I am so happy that The Magician is now also part of my album. For ‘Paradise’ I only wanted to work with people I admire and that’s why it’s so cool for me to have The Magician on the album.”

More than just an album, Paradise is a profound exploration of the Grammy-Award winning producer’s interpretation of what makes a place, a moment or a feeling truly transcendent.

Now gearing up to bring his signature sound to mainland Europe, performing for the first time with a full band, Purple Disco Machine is set to embark on his highly anticipated Paradise tour this autumn. The tour follows a jam-packed summer that saw him captivate audiences worldwide. Most recently he joined the iconic Fisher at his headline show at Gunnersbury Park, as well as power the dancefloor at Glitterbox’s Glasgow takeover. The latest show in his hometown of Dresden, Germany saw him play to a crowd of 12K discerning fans – an unforgettable night celebrating his global influence within the dance music scene. He added:

“The live show is a completely new production, it’s actually like nothing I’ve ever done before – songs are combined in mashups, new songs are included, old songs are included, in new variations. And all this with live artists, with live singers, with dancers, in a completely new guise.”

Inviting all to discover their own vision of paradise, Purple Disco Machine shares his latest body of work with the world today. Paradise is out now and to mark the occasion we asked Purple Disco Machine to compile and talk us through a selection of the kind of music that inspired it. Listen below and read what he had to say about the music.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood – Welcome To The Pleasuredome

A truly great album opener from one of the truly great 80’s albums I cheekily borrowed the title for my album opener W.T.P (Welcome To Paradise).

Alphaville – Big In Japan

The mid 80’s Italo Disco sound is a big influence and I used the synth sample from this classic for Substitution.

Depeche Mode – Everything Counts

Likewise the UK synthpop style of the early 80’s is an important influence and I took inspiration from Depeche Mode’s masterpiece “Construction Time Again” album for the synth sounds on Beat Of My Heart.

Chic – Soup For One

Disco Funk is in my DNA and so Chic is never far from my mind. What an honour to actually have the legendary Nile Rodgers feature on Honey Boy.

Dennis Edwards – Don’t Look Any Further

I wanted a downtempo electro soul track on the album and had this 80’s Motown gem as the template for Can’t Stop Loving You.

Purple Disco Machine – Dished

I like to mix up my single releases between songs and club tracks. My record Dished from 2019 featured an earworm sampled synth riff and while looking for another one I re discovered Fascinated by Company B which forms the backbone of Bad Company.

Pet Shop Boys – Love Comes Quickly

No one does melancholic euro disco better than PSB and I feel that my collaboration with Nothing But Thieves (also British like PSB) channels this spirit.

Dolle Jolle – Balearic Incantation (Todd Terje Extra Dolle Remix)

Every album should have at least one track of Ibiza soaked cosmic disco and like this track, Paradisco does that job.

Kraftwerk – Das Model

It was important for me to finally release a German language record on this album (Die Maschine) and so I must pay respects to the legendary Kraftwerk.

Chromeo – Juice (Purple Disco Machine Remix)

I have always been such a big fan of Chromeo and my remix of the guys 2018 single served as a inspiration for our collaboration Heartbreaker.

De Pauw targets top six finish as Aston Villa prepare for season opener against Chelsea

ROBERT DE PAUW jokes of enjoying being part of “a bald Dutch coaches union” working at the highest levels of football.

After a pre-season that saw Aston Villa beat Manchester City, fans of his side may have high hopes for their team in the WSL this term.

Villa are hoping to improve on their seventh place finish in the league last term[/caption]

Tonight Villa embark on a new journey under their Netherlands-born manager four months after the departure of former boss Carla Ward.

One that will see them attempt to reproduce the form that led to their top four challenge before claiming fifth spot a year ago.

Like Chelsea chief Sonia Bompastor, De Pauw will be overseeing his first WSL game since taking charge of Villa in June.

And the coach who led FC Twente to a top-flight title win in the Netherlands’ top-flight two years ago, is content to be part of an influential contingent of Dutch coaches making their mark here.

The Villa chief said: “I made a joke already in an interview with Sky that I was a member of the Bald Dutch Coaches Union, because there are so many here.

“We have Arjan Veurink (England Women’s assistant) who was my boss at the KNVB (the Royal Dutch Football Association.

“Sarina (Wiegman) I know also from that period.

“Arne Slot looks like me. I only said hi to him once, but it’s funny.

“I saw some interviews of him, and it’s like the same processes that I have now, getting settled in, getting used to the environment, missing your family.

“Erik ten Hag is also here, so yeah, we’re quite a large group now.”

Before finishing seventh in the league last term, Aston Villa ended the season before in fifth place.

It was highest ever finish in the WSL since their promotion to the top tier in 2020.

Their pre-season this summer produced some positive outcomes with the team unbeaten in five friendlies.

A September 1 trip to Charlton resulted in a 2-2 draw with the promotion chasing Women’s Championship side.

A game that saw some experimentation with Villa’s attack.

Katie Robinson, Kirsty Hanson, Ebony Salmon started alongside Adriana Leon, before the second-half introduction of Kenza Dali, Jordan Nobbs and skipper Rachel Daly.

Other results included 1-0 wins against Liverpool and Spanish side Real Betis in August with forwards Leon and Salmon netting the winners in those games.

And a 3-1 warm-up defeat of Everton this month was followed claimed a 2-1 friendly victory against Manchester City with Lucy Staniforth netting following a Paula Tomas assist.

Along with Robinson, who joined Villa as a free agent in July, Spain left-back Tomas is among eight new summer signings with De Pauw strengthening his attacking, midfield and goalkeeper options.

Their new arrivals include Gabi Nunes, who like Tomas, joined the club from Spanish side Levante.

The Brazil forward, who helped her national side to win silver at the Paris Olympics, netted 11 goals in 28 top-flight appearances in Spain last season.

On how much the Villans now resemble a Robert de Pauw team, the Villa boss said: “We had a really good game against Everton.

“The things we’re trying to implement were there so clearly. It was a big relief for me.

“They’re understanding what we’re trying to do, and it’s coming across.

“And of course, it will not be perfect, but there were really the things that I would like to see.”

Following their promising resutls De Pauw is targeting a top-six finish in his first term at the helm.

He said: “Top six is what we have projected.

“If you look at the past season we were seventh and we want to do better than that. The season before we were fifth.

“It will not be easy, there is no guarantee but that is the challenge you want to face.”

Following her Villa arrival Robinson has high hopes for her future under de Pauw and what the team can achieve with their boss.

The Villans chief believes Robinson’s ambition matches those of the club and believes she can be a “difference maker for his side”.

Robinson, who left Albion in June after a four-year spell, said: “I had some really good conversations with the club and with Robert.

“I’m really excited to see what we can achieve.

“Robert has a great attitude and a big winning mentality and that’s really important to me.

“Hopefully where he can implement me in the squad can really bring the best out of me as a player.

“I want to contribute to the team as much as possible with goals and assists, I know I’ve got that in me.

“Ultimately, I want to develop as a player and this is best club for me to do that.”

I learnt the hard way never to wear a short dress on a cruise – people are howling at my Marilyn Monroe moment

A WOMAN has revealed that she learnt the hard way never to wear a short dress when on a cruise.

Travel fan Helen Babs, who ‘lives life to the full’ wore a green floral print dress with a pair of white trainers whilst on a cruise holiday, but left many in hysterics with her awkward outfit fail.

Whilst visiting Madeira, an autonomous region of Portugal, the red-haired beauty was left mortified when her dress left her tights, knickers and ‘booty cheeks’ on show.

Sharing the blunder on social media, we saw a short video of Helen walking on a cruise ship.

As a result of her Marilyn Monroe moment, Helen advised: “Never wear a dress to a sky walk.”

Seconds later, a strong gust of wind caused havoc and blew up Helen’s dress, leaving her black knickers on full display.

Luckily the content creator was also wearing a pair of skin-coloured tights, but the shock on her face was immediately clear.

Helen desperately attempted to pull the dress down, keen to protect her modesty, whilst nearby tourists turned to look, also in disbelief.

Although Helen endeavoured to hold the dress down, she was left giggling when her frock blew up again, but this time, much higher.

Not only were onlookers in hysterics at this point, but Helen noted: “My dad in the background trying not to look.”

Helen was also wearing a pair of ‘chub rub’ shorts, which she described as ‘lifesavers’.

Not only will these bargain buys, which you can nab from Primark, stop chafing but they’ll also give you a bit of added protection in awkward situations like this.

But as a result of the blunder, Helen confessed: “I will wear trousers next time.”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @helenbabs75, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 159,200 views in just one day.

One person said: “Howling!! Love your attitude to life.”
