Lewis Hamilton slams FIA president for ‘racial element’ in criticism that compared swearing drivers to rappers

LEWIS HAMILTON reignited his feud with Mohammed Ben Sulayem by saying there was a “racial element” to his comments comparing swearing drivers to rappers.

The FIA president has asked F1 to limit the amount of swearing, usually from drivers over team radio, on TV coverage of races.

Ben Sulayem said: “We have to differentiate between our sport – motorsport – and rap music. We’re not rappers, you know.

“They say the F-word how many times per minute? We are not on that. That’s them and we are [us].”

Ahead of this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix, Hamilton said: “I don’t like how he’s expressed it.

“Saying ‘rappers’ is very stereotypical and if you think about it, most rappers are black. So really pointed it towards we’re not like them.

“So I think that was the wrong choice of words. There’s a racial element there.”

Hamilton did understand Ben Sulayem’s wider point, saying: “You forget that there are kids that are listening. So I agree in that sense.”

Max Verstappen also snapped back after he was cautioned over swearing in a press conference.

The Red Bull driver said his RB20 car was “f**ked” which led host Tom Clarkson to remind the world champion to watch his language.

Verstappen said: “I sometimes swear, that’s true, but that will apply to everyone in this room.

“Insulting someone is something else.

“We are unlucky that it is all broadcast and people can then pick it up.

“The car is f***ed – can’t I say that? “How old are we, five or six years old? That is ridiculous.

“And even if children of that age watch this, when they get a bit older they will probably also use a swear word when they are with their friends.”

This is not the first time drivers and Ben Sulayem have locked horns, with his feud with Hamilton long-standing.

The seven-time world champion slammed new rules about wearing jewellery in his Mercedes cockpit in 2022.

Hamilton was forced to remove his nose stud ahead of the 2022 British Grand Prix.

He was then granted an FIA medical exemption to wear the piercings following “concerns about disfigurement” the following season.

Ben Sulayem also fined Hamilton £42,000 for failing to attend the FIA’s prize-giving gala in the days after his defeat to Verstappen in the 2021 season finale in Abu Dhabi.

The Brit supported Susie Wolff, the F1 Academy managing director, in her legal dispute against Ben Sulayem.

Wolff lodged a case against the FIA following its conflict of interest inquiry into her last year, which was dropped after two days.

We’ve got 4 kids in 4 different schools & it’s so hectic, says Abbey Clancy – & the intense mum task that makes it worse

ABBEY Clancy shared an insight into her family’s busy life as she discussed her kids’ school schedule.

The 38-year-old model discussed her “hectic” routine with husband Peter Crouch, 43.

The couple explained how having four children at four different schools has been ‘hectic’ and ‘intense’[/caption]

The pair broke down their “intense” schedule on the latest episode of their podcast The Therapy Crouch.

When the couple were asked how it has been having their kids back to school, Abbey summed it up as “hectic.”

Abbey shares daughters Sophia Ruby, 13, and Liberty Rose, nine, and sons Johnny, six, and Jack, five, with her former footballer husband.

The couple regularly share glimpses into their family life on their social media platforms, and joked about how busy their routines now all their kids are in school.

“It’s really intense having four kids in four different schools,” Abbey explained.

Not only does the set-up require numerous drop-offs and pick-ups for the parents, it also means Abbey is part of four different WhatsApp groups for school mums.

The couple said that they spend most days “delivering children around different places.”

They reflected fondly on the days when it was just their oldest child who had so many extra curricular activities to attend.

“Obviously with the big age gap with Sophia it was [just] ferrying one around but now it’s impossible,” Abbey explained.

“Thank God we’ve got friends in the area whose kids are doing the same thing so we can share it.”

While Peter added that he actually enjoys attending his kids hobbies, such as his daughter’s netball games, Abbey pointed out that it’s the process of getting them out of the house that is the difficult part.

“It’s the murder before netball, having a meltdown about the outfit, Liberty’s outfit, she’s hysterical, it’s ridiculous,” Abbey said.

“If you’ve [only] got one child or two, I envy you, or if you have none,” joked Peter.

Their producer joked that the pair are like “proper soccer moms with all the kids in the back of the van.”

Abbey and Peter also praised the good weather for keeping them sane on the school holidays.

Different parenting techniques

Here are some widely recognised methods:

Authoritative Parenting
This technique will often foster independence, self-discipline, and high self-esteem in children.
It is often considered the most effective, this technique is where parents set clear expectations – enforcing rules – whilst also showing warmth and support.

Authoritarian Parenting
This is opposite to authoritative parenting, as it is where the parent sets high demands but is low on responsiveness.
It involves ensuring the child is obedient and often employ punitive measures. While this can lead to disciplined behaviour, it may also result in lower self-esteem and social skills in children.

Permissive Parenting
Permissive parents tend to be indulgent and lenient, often taking on a role more akin to a friend than an authority figure. They are highly responsive but lack demandingness, granting children a lot of freedom. This method can nurture creativity and a free-spirited nature but may also result in poor self-regulation and difficulties with authority.

Uninvolved Parenting
Uninvolved or neglectful parenting is marked by low responsiveness and low demands. Parents in this category offer minimal guidance, nurturing, or attention. This often leaves children feeling neglected, which can have significant negative effects on their emotional and social development.

Helicopter Parenting
Helicopter parents are extremely involved and overprotective, frequently micromanaging their children’s lives. Although their goal is to protect and support, this approach can hinder a child’s ability to develop independence and problem-solving skills.

Free-Range Parenting
Free-range parenting encourages children to explore and learn from their surroundings with minimal parental interference. This method promotes independence and resilience but requires a safe and supportive environment to be successful.

Attachment Parenting
According to Marriage.com, Attachment parenting focuses on physical closeness and emotional bonding, often through practices such as co-sleeping and baby-wearing. This approach aims to create secure attachments and emotional well-being, but demands significant time and emotional commitment from parents.
Each of these parenting techniques has its own set of strengths and weaknesses. The key is to find a balanced approach that aligns with the family’s values and meets the child’s needs for a healthy, happy upbringing.

“We’ve been so lucky with the weather, it’s been great so we’re up and out,” Abbey explained.

“The kids have been doing all their fun stuff, I’ve really enjoyed [it].”

Peter added that their children’s busy weekend schedules is actually a blessing in disguise.

“I actually enjoy that part of our life now,” he explained to their listeners.

“The whole weekend is taken care of.”

We run Britain’s ‘cheapest chippy’ where £1 will get you a whopping portion of fries – but you’ll have to be quick

YOU will be able to get a whopping portion of chips for just £1 at Britain’s “cheapest chippy” but you’ll have to be quick.

The fish and chip shop in the heart of the Norwich, Norfolk, has said it will provide a special offer next month, cutting its regular price by nearly 70 per cent.

The special offer will run for just one week[/caption]

Grosvenor Fish Bar on Lower Goat Lane turns 100 next month and is creating this discount to celebrate the momentous occasion.

Couple Duane Dibartolomeo, 65, and Christian Motta, 56, have been at the helm of the restaurant since 2012.

Christian previously worked there when he was a teenager while his dad Mauro, who passed away in 2022, ran it.

The Grosvenor dates back to 1924 when a hardware store was turned into a café serving fish.

Fast forward to 2024 and it is a thriving takeaway and restaurant that offers much more than just traditional fare.

Customers can also enjoy specials such as cod tacos, squid rings with aioli and even their take on an afternoon tea called High Sea.

The restaurant received a refresh earlier this year which included new furniture and vibrant artwork.

Christian said: “When my dad ran the chippy it was always very traditional with five things on the menu and Artex on the walls.

“When we took it on we wanted to bring it up to date and we like to introduce new things to keep customers interested.”

To celebrate its century of operation, the chippy is discounting its regular portion of chips from October 7 to 13.

Instead of the normal £3 price, diners will be able to enjoy the chips for just £1.

The deal will not be available, however, for deliveries.

Speaking about why the business has stood the test of time, Duane said: “We do our take on tradition and are reliable – you know you are going to get a good meal.”

Christian added: “Despite challenges, like fish prices going through the roof, we have kept our food affordable.

“You can get a meal for the cost of a coffee and sandwich in other places.”

The trained journalist was the original host of The X Factor before she was replaced by Dermot O’Leary in 2007.

After axe Kate went on to be a relief presenter for ITV’s This Morning and Lorraine.

In recent years she’s been a regular host on Greatest Hits Radio.

But now Kate’s return to ITV has been revealed – with the star bagging her very own Royal programme.

Billed as The Royal Beat with Kate Thornton, it will see the host feature various royal expert guests – from royal newspaper editors to former Palace insiders where together they will discuss all of the recent news surrounding the royal family.

The show, which will kick off in October, will run for 10 episodes, each lasting 60 minutes.

Speaking about her new show, Kate said: “I’m thrilled to be bringing The Royal Beat to ITV and ITVX at a time of incredible change for our Monarchy.

“On every episode, we’ll be joined by those that work closest with the royal family to bring you genuine insight on the work they do and explore what really happens behind closed doors in the House of Windsor.

“I think viewers will come away with a deeper understanding of the family and the machine that sits behind it to better understand why the Royals mean so much to us as a nation.”

Last December Kate delighted fans when she returned to TV to take part in the BBC’s Hit List game show.

Britain can take lead role in Europe’s immigration crackdown, says Italy’s interior minister

BRITAIN can take a lead role in cracking down on Europe’s immigration crisis, Italy’s interior minister has declared.

Matteo Piantedosi told The Sun Italy’s huge reduction in migrant arrivals could serve as a blueprint for other European nations – including post-Brexit Britain.

Italy’s interior minister Matteo Piantedosi[/caption]

Pacific Coast News
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer with Italian PM Giorgia Meloni on Monday[/caption]

He also highlighted his country’s new deal with Albania to process migrants outside Italy’s borders as a potential game-changer for the rest of the continent.

With the upcoming meeting of G7 interior ministers, which will include Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, the Minister wasted no time calling on the UK to step up.

He declared: “The results we are achieving, in terms of a strong reduction in irregular entries, can be consolidated and strengthened with the support and cooperation of European partners in the projects we are carrying out with African countries.

“The UK could play a key role in this regard.”

Mr Piantedosi attributed Italy’s 65 per cent drop in migrant arrivals to a series of financial agreements with Libya, Tunisia, and Algeria.

And while the migrant processing centre in Albania will not open until later this year, the Italian Government is confident the initiative will act as a strong deterrent.

The minister said about the deal: “This is an innovative model that could contribute to opening a new chapter in the management of migratory flows in line with current international standards and guarantees: faster repatriations, reserving refuge and international protection only for those who truly qualify.

“We are organising to implement accelerated border procedures not only with centres in Albania but also with others already operational in Italy.”

Fifteen EU members, led by Denmark, recently wrote an open letter to the European Commission backing the outsourcing of migration.

And Sir Keir Starmer – who faces significant pressure to stop small boat crossings – also said he was open about pursuing a similar scheme as he held talks with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni in Rome earlier this week.

He insisted that unlike the “gimmick” Rwanda plan, which he scrapped, this deal would not prevent successful asylum seekers from returning to Britain.

But the PM signalled he was more interested in learning about the Italian Government’s work preventing migrants from reaching its shores.

On his country’s strategy, minister Piantedosi stressed it was not just about stopping migrants at the border but “offering viable alternatives”.

He said these include returning migrants to their countries of origin and “helping them reintegrate through logistical and financial assistance.”

In the long run, he said, Italy is rolling out broader initiatives, like the Mattei Plan, which aims to provide tangible development support for the countries of origin and transit of migrant flows.

Sir Keir announced on Monday Britain is set to add £4million to Meloni’s initiative to help stem irregular migration.

Pressed on his plans today and whether he needs a deterrent, Sir Keir said his focus will be on “dismantling the gangs” through “coordinated international efforts”.

He told ITV he will also ensure “those who enter the UK illegally are swiftly returned to their countries of origin”.

Keir Starmer denies being ‘King of the Freebies’ amid row over bagging tickets and clothes

SIR KEIR Starmer has today hit back at accusations he was “King of the Freebies” as he defended his VIP Arsenal tickets.

The Prime Minister insisted it was “common sense” for him to sit in football hospitality seats after declaring more than £100,000 of gifts.

Sue Gray is also at the centre of a growing pay row[/caption]

The intervention comes as he insists he is “completely in control” of his government amid the Sue Gray pay deal row.

He was also forced to admit that he was the one running the country after being left red-faced by a slew of stories about his most powerful aide.

A dossier revealed his declarations include tickets for his favourite club Arsenal along with suits and spectacles from Labour donor Lord Alli worth £18,000.

The multi-millionaire Peer also gave clothes worth £5,000 of high-end clothes to his wife Lady Victoria.

The PM said he didn’t think it as “fair” that “the taxpayer who’s going to have to pick up the tab for the extra security” if he sits in the stands.

Sir Keir has had to move seats after having season tickets since they moved to the Emirates stadium where he sits with his son and friends.

He told ITV News: “So I’ve  taken up the offer to sit elsewhere in the stands so I can still see Arsenal play because I’ve been going  for many, many years to see them on a regular basis, and I intend to continue to do so when I said.”

The Prime Minister who will look to move on from the freebie controversy at next week’s party conference also side-stepped questions about why he didn’t pay for his own suits.

He said:  “The important thing in all of this is that we follow the rules, which is really important to me and make the declarations so that everything is transparent.

“I’m utterly focussed day in day out actually on how we make the economy work for everyone , how do we get the health service in the place that we need it.”

He was also pressed on why there are people in government so upset with the Number 10 operation that they release details of Sue Gray’s salary.

It emerged yesterday that she is being paid £3,000 more than the PM’s £167,000 salary.

He said:  “I’m completely in control. I’m focused and every day the message from me to the team is exactly the same, which is we have to deliver.

“We were elected on a big mandate to deliver change, I am determined that we are going to do that.”
