I bought a Land Rover for just £300 – there’s a problem but with an easy fix it’ll be worth £1,000s
A CAR enthusiast has revealed how he bought an old Land Rover for just £300, with plans to sell it after an “easy fix”.
Matthew Goodwin picked up the “potentially problematic” 2009 Land Rover Freelander 2.
Matthew from High Peak Autos in Romiley, Greater Manchester, catalogued his journey to pick up the motor on Youtube.
Speaking on his Youtube channel Matt said he was told the car could have a blown head gasket.
He said: “Now I wouldn’t normally buy a car like this, but I thought for £300, I can’t really go wrong.”
The 2009 Land Rover Freelander 2 has 2.2 turbo diesel engine.
Matthew said: “I’ve never had an issue with a 2.2, that’s why I’m finding it hard to believe that this one has a blown gasket.
“What I’m hoping for here guys, is that this has been misdiagnosed.”
He added: “Now I don’t know the symptoms. I don’t know whether it’s overheating, I don’t know whether it’s got coolant in with the oil.
“I really don’t know.”
After inspecting the car, Matthew was relatively optimistic.
Checking out the interior, he said: “Inside is pretty filthy.”
“This would clean up alright, I think.”
A quick inspection under the bonnet revealed no obvious issues.
However, after a quick test drive to get the vehicle cleaned, Matthew noticed a problem.
The lack of warm air from the air conditioner was indicative of a gasket issue according to the car enthusiast.
The problem became even more evident after another test drive, where Matthew filmed himself stranded on the side of the road after the car overheated.
He said: “I was hoping it would be a simple fix but it does have a blown head gasket.”
According to Matthew, the simple fix could be “anywhere from £500 to £1500”, and would increase the car value.
It’s not the first time Matthew has turned roadside scrap, into a profit.
He previously bought a £500 Volvo hatchback, serviced it and listed it for almost £3,000.
The 2007 dark blue Volvo C30 had been in line for the scrap before a viewer of Matt’s YouTube channel reached out to him about the car.
Matt then swooped in to nab the car at the eye-watering price of just £500 before he set about getting it fixed.
The total cost for the vehicle and its repairs came out to £1468.20.
This could be split down into:
- £500 for the car
- £120 for its transport from Leicestershire
- £217 for repairs with Matt’s mechanic
- £120 for seat repair
- £150 for valet and tint removal
- £346.20 for brake repair
- £15 for new number plates
Matt listed the vehicle for £2995 towards the end of summer and given it is no longer listed on High Peak Autos’ website, we can assume it was sold.
If it sold for its asking price, that gives Matt a hefty profit of £1526.80, more than three times the price he paid for the car.

Katie appeared to be flying solo without her boyfriend JJ Slater as she made her way into the celeb-packed party.
She put her surgery-honed curves on full display as she risked a wardrobe malfunction in her tiny outfit.
The leotard came complete with a see-through skirt which allowed the former glamour model’s assortment of tattoos to be visible underneath.
The results of her recent facial surgeries were clear to see as she showed off her chiselled jaw line after jetting abroad to have an assortment of work done on her face.
Katie kept her hair tied up for the party as she struck a variety of poses in front of a huge sign brandishing the fashion brand’s logo.
She was not the only famous face at the party with Love Island stars Harriett Blackmore, Megan Barton Hanson, Jessy Potts, Abi Moores and Paige Thorne all in attendance too.
Geordie Shore star Chloe Ferry also attended the bash as did The Only Way Is Essex favourite Freddie Bentley and Junaid Ahmed.
Surgery obsessed Katie left fans worried just a few days ago as they were quick to express their concern following her latest round of tweakments.
She underwent £10k worth of procedures including a facelift and a breast reduction – just months after having an operation to take her to her biggest boobs ever.
However, fans were worried that her eye appeared sore in the aftermath of her surgeries after she uploaded a snap to Instagram.
One said: “What is the matter with your eye, it looks sore?”
Another fan questioned: “Can you still blink?”
And one more echoed: “Can you close your eyes?”
Katie previously admitted her surgery had left her struggling to see.

2022 – Katie undergoes another brow and eye lift-and undergoes ‘biggest ever’ boob job in Belgium, her 16th in total
2023 – Opting for a second rhinoplasty, Katie also gets a lip lift at the same time as well as new lip filler throughout the year
2024 – Katie has her 17th boob job in Brussels after revealing she wanted to downsize. She performed at Dublin Pride just days later and surgeons warned the lack of recovery posed a risk of infection
But she warned trolls that nasty comments no longer affect her because she is stronger than ever after overcoming a dark period of her life.
However, her children Princess, 17, and Junior, 19 – whom she shares with ex-husband Peter Andre – are said to be “angry and embarrassed” over her latest surgery.
A source told Closer: “Princess worries about all her mum’s cosmetic surgeries and thinks that Katie is surrounding herself with people who don’t tell the truth.
“Instead, they’re giving her the green light to keep going, but it’s not their body, and she’s not their mum.
“Princess is angry and Junior is embarrassed – he’s said Katie is cringe and needs serious help.”
Boy, 7, complained of itchy raised lines on foot that turned out to be WORMS wriggling around inside him
A SEVEN-year-old boy complained of itchy raised lines on his foot – which turned out to be worms inside him.
The child developed the symptoms after playing barefoot on the sand with friends.
Parasitic worms had burrowed beneath the boy’s skin, leaving his left heel with the raised lines.
The child, from Namibia, contracted the parasites after stepping on faeces from an infected animal which bore the larva.
According to the case study, published in Scientific Research, the child told doctors that the lines on his foot became more pronounced when he scratched them.
Medics asked about the boy’s home, and learned he was from the desnsely populated are of Rundu in Northeast Namibia, and had been playing barefoot in the sand.
They diagnosed him with cutaneous larva migrans.
Hookworm eggs can be passed on through animal faeces, burrowing into human skin when stepped on.
In 2018, a woman described the horror of feeling hookworms moving under her skin after contracting them on a Vietnam beach.
The unnamed victim revealed medication only made it worse, leaving her in agony as the parasites tried to flee her body to escape what was killing them.
The 42-year-old, who did not want to be identified, caught the bugs during a three-day holiday at Anh Bang Beach in Vietnam.
Microscopic hookworm larvae – believed to be from animal poo – burrowed into her foot as she strolled across the sand.
She told ABC she had no symptoms for a week – until she awoke in the night in excruciating pain.
The Aussie recalled: “It was the worst feeling I have ever had, they were swollen, the most intense itching I have ever experienced in my life, swelling, my veins were poking out.
“I had patches of pin prick-looking blisters all through my toes and that was obviously the point of entry — it was just horrific.”
She added: “I could actually feel movement in my feet.”
What are hookworms?
Hookworms are parasitic worms that can infect humans in countries with poor sanitation and a warm, moist climate.
The larvae can infect people if their bare skin comes into contact with the soil or sand.
Most hookworm infections occur in Africa, the Americas, China and south-east Asia.
The woman said she was baffled by what could be causing the pain until her mother-in-law sent her an article about another couple who had contracted hookworm on holiday in the Dominican Republic.
She booked an appointment with her GP and showed him the article – prompting him to confirm the stomach-churning news and prescribe her medication to kill off the parasites.
But if she thought that was the end of the matter, she had another thing coming.
The unlucky tourist said the dying worms started trying to escape her body – causing her symptoms to intensify.
She recalled: “I was crying, like literally crying and could not sleep. It was just horrific.”
The next morning her feet were covered in track marks – which look like veins – where the worms had been burrowing around trying to get away.
