West Yorkshire Police previously said the car failed to stop after the incident in Bradford and a manhunt was launched.

The force today said cops probing the incident have arrested two men, both 33.

One man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

A second man was held on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Both remain in custody to be quizzed by detectives.

A spokesman said: “Inquiries remain ongoing into the collision this afternoon.

“The 17 year old male victim remains in hospital in a critical condition.”

The force said its officers spotted a speeding car at around 8.25pm.

The officers – in a marked car – turned around to give chase, but the motor was ‘out of sight’ by that time, the force said.

They then came across a pedestrian in Halifax Road, who was believed to have been hit by the suspect vehicle, which had failed to stop at the scene.

The teen suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

The road was closed for more than 12 hours while investigators combed the area for clues.

It has since reopened.

West Yorkshire Police has voluntarily referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, the spokesman added.
