With her sister Catherine (Sharon Rooney) in jail and her mother Davina (Susan Lynch) travelling the world to find herself, she had no choice but to turn to the hapless Malcolm (David Morrissey) for support.

Viewers saw how she simultaneously handles her pregnancy and helps her sad dad following his marriage’s collapse.

BBC has commissioned six more episodes and will be returning for a second series.

The second series of the Stockport-set comedy finds them facing up to parenthood after Gemma gave birth to baby Sadie.

Sex Education star Aimee Lou Wood, 29, said: “Daddy Issues is the most fun I’ve ever had on a job and I can’t wait to do it again!

“I’m so excited to see what Danielle has cooking for Malcolm, Gemma, [baby] Sadie and the gang.

“I just know it’s going to be hilarious and heart melting.”

Sherwood star David Morrissey, 60, said: “I’m delighted to be doing another series of Daddy Issues.

“Working with Aimee was a dream and Danielle’s writing is so funny and heart-warming! Can’t wait!”

Daddy Issues writer and former stand-up Danielle Ward said: “I’m thrilled to be writing for Aimee and David and the rest of this fabulous cast again.

“I love the Moscrips and can’t wait to crack on with their continuing adventures.”

Meanwhile, BBC drama Sherwood aired its second series on BBC One, starring David Morrissey.

The second instalment followed two families who found themselves entangled with the Sparrows in a world where old rivalries and long-held revenge missions are the norm.

Fans were pleased to see familiar faces Ian St Clair (David Morrissey) and Julie Jackson (Lesley Manville) back onto our screens, while also introducing viewers to plenty of new cast members.

Best BBC comedies

We look back at some of the best to ever grace the screen.

Fawlty Towers (1975-1979) – Only two series were made of the beloved institution. However, the cultural impact of the series starring John Cleese and Connie Booth spans decades. It follows rude and intolerant Basil Fawlty (Cleese) as he attempts to improve the reputation of his hotel.

Only Fools and Horses (1981-2003) – The show was crowned by some as the best British sitcom of all time by a TV poll in 2004. Seven series were broadcast on BBC until 1991 with additional sporadic Christmas specials airing until 2003. Sir David Jason starred as ambitious market trader Derek “Del Boy” Trotter whilst Nicholas Lyndhurst played his younger half-brother Rodney. Set in working-class Peckham in south-east London, it follows the highs and lows of the lives of the Trotters’, in particular their brazen attempts to get rich.

Blackadder (1983 – 1989) – Four series were made of the iconic show, created by Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson. Each series spans a different historical period as anti-hero Edmund Blackadder (Atkinson) tries to better himself in each society. Accompanied by his dogsbody Baldrick (Tony Robinson), trouble always ensues. A TV poll in 2004 found that Blackadder was voted the second-best British sitcom of all time

Absolutely Fabulous (1992 – 2012) – Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley star as failing PR guru Edina ‘Eddie’ Monsoon and alcoholic fashionista Patsy Stone. The pair embark on heavy-drinking sessions and abuse drugs in a desperate attempt to stay ‘hip’. Eddie constantly chases bizarre fads and fails to lose weight whilst her disappointed and neglected daughter Saffy (Julia Sawalha) looks on.

Little Britain (2003 – 2006) – The premise is simple. A sketch show which features different British people from all walks of life that are engaged in all sorts of comical scenarios. Starring Matt Lucas and David Walliams, the pair created iconic pop culture characters. Viewers loved obnoxious council estate teenager Vicky Pollard, morbidly obese scrounger Bubbles Devere, slimming coach Marjorie Dawes, despondent office worker Carol Beer, disgraced politician Sir Norman Fry, of course the iconic Lou and Andy!

The Catherine Tate Show (2004-2015) – A sketch show starring the likes of Catherine Tate. She made iconic characters such as rowdy schoolgirl Lauren Cooper with her line ‘Am I bovvered?’. Other characters featured Bernie the nurse, the aga saga woman, complaining couple Janice and Ray, and of course her infamous ‘Nan’, Joannie Taylor. The last character herself spawned multiple specials and even a movie.

Gavin and Stacey (2007 – Present) The series tells the story of Gavin (Matthew Horne) and Stacey (Joanna Page). The pair embarked on an online and telephone romance for six months. But when they finally decide to be together properly, their friends and family get in the way. Ruth Jones and James Corden created the beloved show, which has been going for over a decade. The 2019 Christmas special was the most-watched comedy in 17 years and the most-viewed non-sporting event in a decade.

New additions included Monica Dolan (Mr Bates vs The Post Office), Sharlene Whyte (Small Axe), David Harewood (Homeland) and more.

The new season was once again penned by James Graham, who also serves as executive producer on the series.

Directing duties this time around are with Clio Barnard, who is known for her work on Ali & Ava and The Selfish Giant.

Tom George (This Country, See How They Run) has also directed episodes four, five and six.

The first series of Daddy Issues is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Fans joke ‘it’s the history of the Tottenham’ as Postecoglou’s horror London derby record revealed after Arsenal loss

TOTTENHAM’S horror traditional derby record under Ange Postecoglou has been laid bare following yesterday’s defeat to Arsenal.

Spurs crashed to a 1-0 loss at home despite facing a Gunners side missing several first-team stars.

Ange Postecoglou’s terrible record against Spurs’ traditional rivals has been revealed[/caption]

Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino and Oleksandr Zinchenko were among those unavailable for the crunch clash.

But Mikel Arteta’s men dug deep to produce a strong defensive performance and clinch victory through Gabriel Magalhaes’ 64th minute header.

The result leaves Spurs in 13th place with just four points from four games.

They’ve now lost back-to-back games following a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle before the international break.

But supporters are now becoming even more alarmed after realising Postecoglou holds a terrible record against Spurs’ classic London rivals.

Despite also facing teams like Brentford, Crystal Palace and Fulham, Tottenham fans live for wins over historic rivals Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham.

But since Postecoglou’s arrival in the summer of 2023, they are yet to win a single match in seven attempts against their traditional enemies.

Starting in September last year, Spurs drew 2-2 with Arsenal before suffering a devastating 4-1 home defeat to Chelsea two months later.

December then saw them lost 2-1 at home to West Ham.

And in April’s return fixture, Spurs could only manage a 1-1 draw in the East End.

That same month saw Tottenham beaten 3-2 at home by local rivals Arsenal.

And weeks later they were defeated 2-0 at Stamford Bridge by Chelsea.

Yesterday’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal was just the latest in a long line of poor results against their London neighbours.

And fans reacted with disbelief on social media.

One said: “It’s the history of the Tottenham.”

Another declared: “Such a poor, poor record.”

One noted: “It’s starting to annoy me now.”

Another added: “I no longer recognise my club.”

Spurs fans can feel happier when Postecoglou’s results against the other London sides are taken into account though.

In six games against Brentford, Fulham and Palace, Tottenham secured an impressive four wins and just one defeat.

“I think he picked us up at one in the morning, and we didn’t get back till 7 in the morning because Mark obviously had the time of his life.”

She went on to reveal how they made a friend group and did “loads of things together.”

Ellie continues: “Then in March 2022 that’s when I decided I think I like Mark a little bit more than a friend.”

Then from onwards she “practically” moved in with him.

She continues: “Start of June 2022, is when I met the kids for the first time and then after a week of meeting them is when we lived together full time.

“It’s weird because we are both from the same town and we actually live in a very, very small town.

Red flags

“We definitely crossed paths at one point in our lives.

“Mark used to own a smoothie shop, so when I was a kid I literally used to go into that smoothie shop.”

Beloved family-run garage closes after 96 years as long-time boss cries ‘it’s been my life’

A BELOVED family-run garage that’s been serving its local community for nearly a century has closed its doors for good, leaving its long-time boss heartbroken.

The Green Garage in Walmer, Deal, has been a staple on Station Road since 1928.

END OF AN ERA Beloved family-run garage closes after 96 years as long-time boss cries ‘it’s been my life’
The independent garage was a staple on Stationary Road

But after 96 years, the independent garage has shut down, as the lease has run out and the landowner has decided to sell up.

Archie Shorter, 83, has been the heart and soul of The Green Garage for the past 44 years, having taken over the business in the early 1980s with his partner, the late Brian Olby.

Archie told Kent Online: “It has been my life for 44 years. I used to always look forward to coming into work every morning.

“When someone brings a car in and we repair it, what I want to see is them getting their car back with a smile on their face.”

Since the early 1980s, the garage has carried out over 20,000 MOTs and has become known for its expertise in maintaining classic cars.

After Brian retired in the mid-2000s, Archie took over as the sole boss, running the business alongside his son Wayne, 55.

From the start, Archie was determined to keep the garage’s vintage charm intact.

The 83-year-old said: “From the time I took over the premises, I have not changed a thing.

“The inside still looks the same as it did then,” he said. “But there are fewer and fewer independent garages like mine.

“In Walmer and Deal 30 years ago there were at least 30 – now there are only three or four.”

The closure is part of a worrying trend for family-run garages in the area.

The garage has been listed on Zoopla for £330,000.

Earlier this year, another local business, B D Motors in Whitstable, was forced to close after 53 years due to a lease renewal issue, with the site potentially being redeveloped for housing.

As for The Green Garage, the landowners—who’ve kept the site in the family for 96 years—have decided it’s time to move on.

Archie said: “They are getting to the age where they want to do something about it, so that’s why we’re packing up.”

Over the decades, Archie has witnessed the evolution of car maintenance firsthand, with vehicles becoming increasingly sophisticated.

He added: “Mechanics are now modern technicians with diagnostic equipment.

“If they were given a car that was 30 to 40 years old now and opened the bonnet, they would hardly know what they were looking at. In the old days, it was all hands, touch, and look.”

The closure has stirred emotions in the local community, with many expressing their sadness on social media.

By Friday, the Deal Local Kent History Facebook page had seen 88 comments about the garage’s closure.

Phil Olby, son of Archie’s former business partner, wrote: “A great loss. I used to man the petrol pump whilst on my summer school holidays.

Archie, who turns 84 in November, is now retiring but plans to keep up his passion for riding and repairing motorcycles.

Meanwhile, Wayne will take a few months off before seeking new employment.

The Green Garage was originally founded in 1928 by Ernest Kennett, who offered repairs, haulage services, and even ran a taxi service under the name E Kennett Junr.

As the garage closes its doors for the last time, it marks the end of an era for the local community—a cherished piece of Deal’s history now consigned to memory.

Whilst the closure of this beloved garage will certainly be felt by many, it’s not all doom and gloom for family businesses.

A family-run car dealership chain loved by thousands of Brits is now set to open seven new showrooms immediately.

It comes after another major dealership chain opened it’s first ever physical site after absorbing a key rival.
