Huw Edwards AVOIDS jail after paying paedo for child sex images that he branded âamazingâ in vile WhatsApp chat
HUW Edwards has avoided jail after he paid a vile predator ÂŁ1,500 for child sex images and videos that the star branded âamazingâ.
The former BBC presenter, 63, was given the images in a depraved WhatsApp chat by convicted paedo Alex Williams.

He had faced a maximum 12 months in jail for the offences after a judge kept the case at magistrates court rather than sending it to crown.
Edwards was instead handed a six month sentenced suspended for two years.
Chief magistrate Paul Goldspring branded Edwards âperhaps the most-recognised newsreader in the UK,â before going on to say, ânow your reputation is in tattersâ.
The veteran newsreader was sent 41 images â including two videos of a boy as young as seven â by Williams.
He issued a grovelling apology for his ârepugnantâ crimes â saying he has the âutmost regretâ for âdamaging his family and loved onesâ.
Westminster Magistratesâ Court heard he paid between ÂŁ1,000 and ÂŁ1,500 for the images, which he described as âamazingâ.
Williams, who trawled the dark web for the vile pictures and videos, then used the cash to support himself at university.
He also asked Edwards to buy gifts for him in exchange for âall the hot videosâ â including a pair of Air Force 1 trainers for Christmas.
Williams also demanded hundreds of pounds a go for the images.
On one occasion, the predator asked if Edwards wanted sexual images of a person whose âage could be discerned as being between 14 and 16â.
The newsreader replied: âYes xxxâ.
Williams later sent Edwards a full file containing around 30 attachments â including indecent images of children.
He also warned the paedo âdonât send anything underageâ, the court heard.
On August 11, 2021, Williams contacted Edwards and told him he had some ânaughtyâ imagesâ.
Edwards told him to âgo onâ, and Williams says âyoungâ before the newsreader repeated himself.
Williams said the victim in the image is quite young looking â causing Edwards to reply that âages can be deceptiveâ.
When the paedo suggested that some of the images may be illegal, Edwards replied: âAh ok, donâtâ.
Edwards had engaged in an online chat with 25-year-old Williams between December 2020 and August 2021.
During this time, the paedo sent Edwards 377 sexual images, of which 41 were indecent images of children.
EDWARDS UNMASKED

THE mum of a teen sent vile messages by Huw Edwards has hit out at the disgraced BBC host in an open letter.
She tells him he caused âimmense pain and sufferingâ to her and her son in the pursuit of his âsick pleasureâ.
Edwards, 62, is due to be sentenced today over indecent images of children as young as seven found on his mobile phone.
Seven of the 41 he admitted to receiving were in Category A â the most serious classification.
The mother of the young man who Edwards paid tens of thousands of pounds to in return for sexually explicit pictures says the former news anchor should be locked up.
She writes: âEdwards has exploited very young children for his own sick ends and in my mind should go to prison.
âIt breaks my heart as a mother to know that the man who groomed and controlled my son also shared the worst kind of child abuse picture.
âNo paedophile who enjoys pictures of young kids should be free on the street.â
Edwards is facing a possible jail sentence when he appears in court today and could spend the rest of his life on the sex offenders register.
The anguished mum of Huw Edwardsâ young victim has told the shamed BBC star: âAll we cared about was stopping you.â
She poured her heart out in an open letter after she exposed the shamed News at Ten presenter for sending her teenage son tens of thousands of pounds in return for Âsexually explicit pictures.
Williams first got touch with the presenter because he was randomly messaging famous people to see who responded.
He pleaded guilty in March to seven offences relating to possessing and distributing indecent images.
He was handed a 12-month jail term suspended for two years.
Seven of the images fall under Category A â the most serious classification.
This included two moving images of a young child, possibly aged between seven and nine years old.
He also had photos of other children aged between 13 and 15 stored on his phone.
A further 12 images were classed as Category B and 19 as Category C.
The court heard in July that Edwards did not create any of the images himself.
The charge of making indecent images can mean opening an email attachment, downloading a picture or receiving an image via social media.
In mitigation, Philip Evans KC, defending, claimed Edwards did not make payments to Williams in order to receive indecent images of children.
How are indecent images defined and categorised?
Under section 1 of Protection of Children Act 1978, it is an offence to possess indecent photographs of children.
The images are categorised under three groups ranging from A â the most serious â to C.
- Category A: Explicit material involving penetration, sexual activity with an animal or sadism (deemed the most severe).
- Category B: Explicit material that is non-penetrative sexual activity (the mid-range in terms of seriousness).
- Category C: Explicit material involving erotic posing (the least severe).

He also claimed Edwards did not take any âgratificationâ from the pictures and videos.
The lawyer added: âMr Edwards wishes to apologise. He wishes the court to know how profoundly sorry he is. He recognises the repugnant nature of such images and the hurt that is done to those who appear in such images.
âFor his part in that, he apologies sincerely and he makes it clear that he has the utmost regret.
âHe recognises he has betrayed the priceless trust and faith of so many people. He knows that he has hurt and damaged his family and his loved ones around him.
âHe is truly sorry and he is truly sorry that he has committed these offences.â
But the court was told Edwards was described as being at a âmediumâ risk of causing harm to children.
JPs also heard has suffered from depression and mental health issues.
He is currently doing well âtherapeuticallyâ in the psychiatric unit of the hospital environment where he is being treated.
But this may not last if taken out of that bubble, the prosecutor said.
Mr Hope added that âhis decision-making across the relevant time may have been adversely impaired by a mixture of mood disorder, neuro-cognitive disorder and alcohol consumptionâ.
Edwards quit the BBC in April after 40 years reporting on some of the worldâs biggest stories.
This included leading coverage of the Queenâs funeral and Prince Harry and Meghan Markleâs wedding.
He was one of the BBCâs highest-profile and highest-paid presenters with a pay bracket between ÂŁ475,000 and ÂŁ479,999 for the year 2023/24.
The BBC confirmed it knew in November their star newsreader had been arrested but kept paying him for another five months.
The Sun revealed previously how the dad-of-five has now split from his TV producer wife.

ZOE Ball was replaced by Radio 2 star Scott Mills today as worried fans begged for an update on her return.
Presenter Scott failed to address her absence today but last week said âweâre sending you loveâ.
Zoe Ball has been off work for the last six weeks[/caption] Scott Mills failed to mention Zoe Ballâs absence today[/caption]The veteran broadcaster has been off for six weeks â with insiders claiming ânobody knows whatâs going onâ at the station.
Zoe, 53, usually takes the reins on the flagship show every weekday morning from 6:30am.
Today, Scott stood in for his second week running and kicked off the show telling fans: âHello, good morning, how are you? Ready for a new week!â
He failed to mention Zoe, but added: âThis weekend, I saw my friends, my family, and Iâm trying to get into green tea âŠâ
He said his mates convinced him to drink it and insisted after a couple of days it is âjust like coffeeâ.
But he ditched the plan on Monday morning, and forced himself to drink pure vegetable water which is said to deliver youthful effects on the skin.
BBC Radio 2 posted a video of the moment on Instagram, with Scott heaving at the smell.
But beneath the video, one listener penned: âWhenâs zoe back?â.
Last week Scott, who is usually in the drivetime hotseat, addressed his appearance on the breakfast programme.
He said: âIf you set your alarm every morning to go off at 6:30am and normally Zoe comes on, please do not freak out. You have not overslept.
âIf youâve just put us on this morning, itâs Scott Mills in for Zoe for the next few weeks. Iâm sending you all my love Zoâ, as are the team.â
Zoeâs absence from her BBC Radio 2 show has again been put under the spotlight.
A source has told MailOnline how mystery surrounds Zoeâs absence and said: âNobody knows what has happened but everyone loves Zoe.
âWe hope everything is okay.
âZoe is so loved at the BBC so to not have her around is really noticeable.â
The star took the summer holidays off and had not been on air since July.
The BBC also released a statement on the broadcasterâs future earlier this month.
They said: âZoe will return to the Radio 2 Breakfast Show later this month.â

A TATTOIST has been slammed after showing off a young clientâs first ever ink â on his face.
Tattoo artist Javi took to his Instagram page to share a video of a young man who had chosen to have his date of birth in Roman numerals, etched on the side of his face.
âClientâs first tattoo â his birthdate on his sideburn,â he wrote over the top of the video.
And he added in the caption: âMy guy got his first tattoo on his face...
âClient has since then came back and gotten more tattoo work.â
The video showed Javi applying some clear gel over the design he had just inked, which had a red area around it.
But people in the comments section were quick to slam the tattooist for even agreeing to the etching in the first place.
âNot gonna lie, massive red flag for an artist to tattoo face on someone who has no ink at all,â one wrote.
âA reputable tattoo artist would have denied or turned this kid away,â another said.
As a third person â a fellow tattoo artist â added: âI would never tattoo someoneâs face for their first tattoo.â
âHave standards. Donât ruin peopleâs lives,â someone else urged.
âArtists need to learn to say no,â another sighed.
While someone else said: âIâve seen a few tattoo artists who have said they will refuse to tattoo a face unless itâs about the only place left to tattoo.
âNaturally, there are exceptions, but Iâve found even within the industry, some artists deem it a no-go until there are no other places on a client.
âSame concept as tattooing a drunk person.
âJust because you can, doesnât mean you should!â
âWhen I was like 19 I was SO close to getting Japanese writing on my cheekbone as my first tattoo,â another recalled.
âNo artist in my area would do it, and Iâm so happy for it now looking back!â
Tattoo Do's and Don'ts
1. Think, think and think some more
Tattoos done on a whim are far more likely to lead to regret than a tattoo you thought long and hard about. Think about why you want what youâve chosen. And if you still want it after a few months, then get it.
2. Age restrictions apply
You must be 18 years old to be tattooed in the UK.
3. Donât haggle over the price
When you go to a tattoo shop the price is the price. You are paying for an artistâs time and skills, they charge what they believe those things are worth. Â
4. Donât get tattooed while youâre hungry
Eat before you go for your tattoo session and make sure youâre hydrated. Youâre about to be subjected to a period of sustained physical discomfort, if youâre feeling a little weak from hunger or youâre dehydrated things will not go as smoothly as they should.
5. Donât drink alcohol before you get tattooed
If you are drunk or under the influence of drugs, donât go for a tattoo. In fact, if your tattooist has anything at all about them they will turn you away if you are clearly under the influence of any intoxicating substances.  Iâd also avoid drinking the night before, even a few drinks will thin your blood and make your bleed more.
âWay to make sure youâre never respected in this industry,â someone else blasted.
But other people slammed the manâs design itself, after he chose to have 11/26/2001 inked on his face â making him 22 years old.
âImagine wanting a face tattoo so badly the only thing you can think to put on there is your birthday,â one giggled.
âPeople just be getting anything,â another sighed.
âIs he gonna get his social security number on the other side?â someone else questioned.
As another wondered if it was âin case he forgets?â
