Experts estimate that more than £40million is spent on birthday cakes during those weeks

Experts estimate that more than £40million is spent on birthday cakes during those weeks.

They reckon adults eat four slices on average — while parents and children attending parties can eat another seven.

Four in five of the cakes are vanilla sponge or chocolate, which can lead to “palette fatigue”.

To combat this, 44 per cent of under-40s have tried baking recipes from social media while TikTok has more than 140million “birthday cake inspiration” posts.

Top trends include towers of chocolate brownies or marshmallow and salted caramel layers between chocolate bases.

Annabel Lui, co-founder of bakers Cutter and Squidge which conducted the study said: “You wouldn’t eat the same meal 11 times in a month so why eat the exact same baked treats?

“While everyone loves to celebrate birthdays with a slice of cake, scoffing the same thing every time can be boring and leads to ‘birthday cake burnout’.”

SEE THAT STORM (4.43 Redcar, nap)

He is gunning for a hat-trick after a solid success over this course and distance before scoring at Pontefract last time. He likes decent ground and there’s another win in Ed Bethell’s colt.

BLUEBELLS BOY (5.20 Brighton, nb)

He showed loads of pace when winning over six furlongs at Lingfield latest so should have no problems with this drop in tip. He looks hard to beat under a 5lb penalty.

ROSY AFFAIR (4.35 Yarmouth, treble)

She has been knocking on the door with two close seconds at Newmarket. This trip is ideal and she doesn’t need much more to land her third win of the season.

MIDNIGHT THUNDER (3.05 Yarmouth, Lucky 15)

He stepped up from his debut to scoot in at Windsor latest and had loads left in the tank.

British Airways launches seven more flights to top US holiday hotspots

BRITISH AIRWAYS has announced they’re launching seven more flights to unbelievable US holiday hotspots.

The additional services next summer give the plane giant a record number of US flights.

Extra flights to Las Vegas have also been added[/caption]

British Airways will operate seven more flights a week to the stunning city of Miami to offer a twice-daily year-round service.

An additional six flights will go to Austin in Texas, and three more flights a week during peak season to party hotspot Las Vegas.

An extra weekly flight to Pittsburgh will also be available to offer a daily service, and even an extra seven flights a week to Washington.

Therefore in total, BA will have over an astonishing 400 direct flights per week at its peak.

Not only is BA launching more flights to the US, but Canada, India and Cancun too.

Flights to Canada’s Vancouver will operate up to a whopping 14 a week from London Heathrow to offer a daily service during the summer peak.

A third daily flight to Delhi will be around for summer 2025 – bringing the total number of flights to India to 63 a week across five destinations.

To the luxurious Cancun in Mexico, flights from London Gatwick will also be increased to seven a week – becoming a daily service next summer.

Those wanting to go to Italy can hop on a second daily flight that has been added from Heathrow to the beautiful city of Florence – thanks to BA launching additional services.

It comes after British Airways announced they’re launching more flights to Cape Town, South Africa from the UK.

Currently, the flag carrier operates a daily flight between London Heathrow and the African city.

However, two more daily routes are to be added in the upcoming months.

By the end of October, a second daily flight will be launched to Cape Town.

And then from January 10, a third will launch from London Heathrow.

You can also currently fly from London Gatwick to Cape Town, although this is just a seasonal route that runs for three weeks between December 13, 2024 and January 8, 2025.

Dr Ivan Meyer, the Western Cape’s minister for economic opportunities and agriculture, said that the UK was one of the largest groups of tourists arriving by air.

He added: “The Western Cape remains a preferred destination for UK travellers, and with improved connectivity between the two regions, the city hopes to welcome even more UK visitors, further boosting our economy.”

Three money-saving travel hacks to take the stress out of your holidays

READY to escape the dreary weather? Here are some tips on saving cash

TIME TO FLY: Always use a flight comparison site, such as fly-scanner.com or kayak.co.uk, which will search for the cheapest operator on your chosen route.

Airlines release tickets up to a year in advance and, generally, the earlier you book, the cheaper flights are.

This is especially true if you’re planning to fly during peak periods, such as summer holidays.

FLEXIBLE WINS: You’ll be able to find the best deals if you can be flexible on your destination or with dates of travel.

Flying midweek is usually the cheapest, while Fridays and Sundays tend to be the most expensive.

If you have set dates in mind, try Skyscanner’s “Everywhere” search tool, which will show the cheapest destinations available at those times.

PACKAGE UP: You can usually save cash by opting for an all-inclusive deal over booking flights and hotels separately, according to research by consumer group Which?.

However, it does depend on the destination so it’s worth doing your research.

Spain was found to be cheaper as an all-inclusive, but you would be better off doing a DIY holiday in Portugal’s Algarve.

Married At First Sight UK groom says bride reminds him of his SISTER in awkward first meeting

ONE OF the grooms on Married At First Sight UK grooms said that his bride reminded him of his sister in a super awkward moment.

Emma and Casper were put together by the agents in what was thought to be a good match on the long-running E4 social experiment.

However, Casper confessed that his bride reminded him of his sister[/caption]

However, they shared a rather awkward first meeting, and Married At First Sight viewers were sure to notice.

Before their wedding day, Emma, 31, opened up to her friends about her monthly escapades as she struggled to find the one.

Meanwhile, Casper, 34, spoke about his lack of confidence and the issues he has suffered around his body image.

It was eventually time for the pair to meet, as Casper exchanged nervous glances with his family as he introduced himself to her clan.

After she walked down the aisle, Emma was completely ecstatic when she caught a proper look at her new husband.

Speaking to the camera, she remarked, “I had preconceptions, blue suit, a bit of stubble. [He’s] got these lovely brown eyes.”

“I mean, he’s pretty much ticked every box that I asked for.”

However, although Casper did think she was beautiful, there was just one catch.

“Emma, it’s full of energy, big smile, really big laugh. [She’s] a beautiful, dazzling woman.

“But if I’m being completely honest, she very much reminds me of my sister.”

It was revealed later on in the episode that Casper and his sister used to clash when they were younger because of their personalities.

Emma and his sister also got on at the reception as they shared barrels of laughter together.

This immediately got viewers worried as they took to X, formerly known as Twitter, in their droves.

One wrote: “I think it’s hilarious that Casper resembles his sister in Emma, the more you look you just CANNOT unsee it hahah”

Married at First Sight UK 2024

Here's who you can expect in the Mafs 2024 cast:

A second fan stated: “Casper needs to be honest with this lady if he isn’t feeling it because he thinks she looks like his sister. Emma seems so sweet.”

While a third viewer noted: “Not a great start if your wife reminds you of your sister.”

“Not being funny but does Casper literally hate his sister?” asked a fourth user.

And a fifth added: “Like his sister. Who he confessed he doesn’t have a great relationship with. Oh, this is doomed.”
