Ex-England star Andy Carroll’s career plummets to new low with striker set for free transfer to fourth division

ANDY CARROLL is set to drop down to the FOURTH TIER of French football as he prepares to join Bordeaux, according to reports.

The former England striker, 35, spent last season with Ligue 2 side Amiens, scoring four goals in 31 appearances.

He played nine times for England and scored against Sweden at Euro 2012[/caption]

Now L’Equipe understands the striker is poised to leave the second-division club and drop down a further two levels.

Six-time French champions Bordeaux play their football in the Championnat National 2 after they went into administration and were punished with a double relegation last month.

Despite being in the fourth tier, Carroll will play in front of a 42,000-capacity stadium in south-west France.

Yet it still shows the disappointing fall from grace for the 6ft 4in striker who earned nine England caps.

Carroll broke through at Newcastle and earned a £35million move to Liverpool in 2011 after scoring 11 goals in 19 Premier League games during the first half of the campaign.

He arrived at Anfield in the same month as Luis Suarez and for a bigger fee, but failed to have anywhere near the impact of the Uruguayan.

He had made his international debut shortly before joining Liverpool and went on to be selected by Roy Hodgson for Euro 2012, scoring in a 3-2 win over Sweden.

But at club level Carroll scored just 11 times in 58 appearances across an 18-month stint at Liverpool.

He signed for West Ham on loan in 2012 where he would end up agreeing a permanent deal – culminating in a six-year stay consisting of 34 goals in 142 matches.

A failed two-season spell back at Newcastle saw him score just one goal, marking an end to his days in the top flight.

Since 2021, Carroll has signed for Reading twice and West Brom, scoring 14 times in 57 games.

He then moved to France with Amiens in a bid to revive his career, but could only muster four goals last season.

Celtic vs Slovan Bratislava

Our Bet Builder selections: Celtic to win, both teams to score and Kyogo to score 1st.

Back our 9/1 Bet Builder

Here’s why we’ve made those selections:

  • Celtic to win: Should get off to a winning start, having started domestic campaign in sensational form. Been handed a kind draw but need to make most of it and in front of packed Celtic Park, can do just that.
  • Both teams to score: Despite not yet conceding domestically, Celtic haven’t been tested, despite already hosting Rangers, Hearts and Kilmarnock, last season’s 2nd, 3rd and 4th. European ties a different test and can see that defence finally being breached.
  • Kyogo to score 1st: Whispers of Manchester City being interested in the summer and he can show glimpses here of why. Movement is top class and teams know this but still can’t handle him. Big game player.

Quorn confirms it has discontinued a handy kids’ teatime essential after shoppers spot empty shelves

QURON has axed a handy teatime essential which was loved by both parents and kids.

Its Uniquorns meat-free pieces received rave reviews from parents before they vanished from supermarket shelves this year.

Quorn Uniquorn pieces are no more

After they launched in 2022, shoppers said they were “all for” buying the product if it encouraged their kids to try “non-meat products”.

Despite being aimed at children the product was also a hit with adults, with one customer describing the food as “yummy” in a social media post.

One customer also gave this review online: “Had these more than once, a great snack, use a dip or sauce.”

The savoury flavour shapes were made with mycoprotein, a popular fungus used in vegan and vegetarian products.

But the snacks have vanished from supermarket shelves, with one eagle-eyed customer taking to X, formally known as Twitter, to find out more.

They flagged the issue on social media, with the Quron team replying confirming the product had been discontinued.

A spokesperson from Quron told The Sun: “These products have now left the freezer.

“However, we still have a huge range of delicious frozen products perfect for family dinners, including our amazing dinosaur shaped nugget.”

The product retailed for £2.65 when it was in stock, and was commonly found on the shelves of supermarkets such as Tesco and Iceland.

Quron has an extensive range of meat-free products for children including dinosaurs-shaped meat-free pieces and nuggets.

It comes just one month after the company also revealed it pulled its chilled bacon slices from shelves.

In a statement, Quorn said: “Our chilled bacon slices are leaving the range but we do still have our frozen bacon slices available.

One customer said this in response to the news: “This is what frustrates me most about being on a specialised, meatless diet: every time I find something tasty, they tweak it or remove it. I’m sorry this has happened.”

What is Quorn and what is it made from?

Quorn is a meat substitute that is popular with vegetarians and also many meat eaters.

Originally launched in 1985 by Marlow foods, the product is primarily made from an edible fungus called mycoprotein. The mycoprotein makes up around 92 per cent of the Quorn.

Other key ingredients include:

  • Rehydrated Free Range Egg White
  • Natural Caramelised Sugar
  • Firming Agents: Calcium Chloride, Calcium Acetate
  • Gluten Free Barley Malt Extract

In most Quorn products, the fungus is dried before being mixed with the egg white, which is there to act as a binder.

The meat-substitute can then be adjusted in texture and pressed into various forms.

Quorn also offers an additional vegan product, which uses potato protein to bind, rather than egg white.

But, perhaps surprisingly, in 2014, it was reported that most consumers of Quorn are meat eaters rather than vegetarians.

Why are products axed or recipes changed?

ANALYSIS by chief consumer reporter James Flanders.

Food and drinks makers have been known to tweak their recipes or axe items altogether.

They often say that this is down to the changing tastes of customers.

There are several reasons why this could be done.

For example, government regulation, like the “sugar tax,” forces firms to change their recipes.

Some manufacturers might choose to tweak ingredients to cut costs.

They may opt for a cheaper alternative, especially when costs are rising to keep prices stable.

For example, Tango Cherry disappeared from shelves in 2018.

It has recently returned after six years away but as a sugar-free version.

Fanta removed sweetener from its sugar-free alternative earlier this year.

Suntory tweaked the flavour of its flagship Lucozade Original and Orange energy drinks.

While the amount of sugar in every bottle remains unchanged, the supplier swapped out the sweetener aspartame for sucralose.

Inside Endrick’s surprise wedding to stunning model, 23, after Real Madrid star, 18, revealed wild relationship contract

ENDRICK has married his model and influencer girlfriend Gabriely Miranda.

The Brazilian wonderkid, 18, shared a series of glamorous pictures from the occasion to his social media accounts.

In the snaps, the Real Madrid starlet can be seen wearing a dapper black suit with no tie, trainers, and an eye-catching watch.

He posed with new wife Gabriely, who wore an elegant white dress with pink high-heels.

Endrick and Gabriely have tied the knot less than a year after first meeting.

Sharing her wedding snaps, the model wrote on Instagram: “Matthew 19:6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what GOD has put together no one can separate.”

The happy couple are said to have agreed an unusual relationship contract prior to their wedding day.

It is said to include a clause dictating that they must say “I love you” in all situations.

Bizarrely, it also reportedly contains a rule banning Endrick from having a virtual girlfriend on Grand Theft Auto, a game he is a big fan of.

The football superstar is also said to be prohibited from commenting on other girls’ Instagram posts.

Who are these famous footballers?

Endrick has a huge fanbase, already boasting more than 13million Instagram followers.

Gabriely also has plenty herself, with more than a million followers on the same platform.

Endrick agreed a deal to join Real Madrid back in December 2022, when he was just 16-years-old.

He initially stayed with Palmeiras in Brazil, before moving over to Europe upon turning 18 in the summer.

The forward has so far made four brief cameos for Carlo Ancelotti‘s side, as he competes with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo for a place in Real’s star-studded attack.

He is one of several teenagers looking to burst onto the scene in the Champions League this season, as outlined by SunSport.
