IPhone users notice a new pop-up every time they open their games but don’t know what it does

APPLE has just released the next major version of iOS, 18.0, and users are already noticing the changes to their iPhones.

Alongside the update are a whole host of new features, including more customisation options and a revamped Control Centre.

Game Mode appears at the top of games when you start them[/caption]

However, one of the most interesting features of the update is the Game Mode, which is turned on by default, and mysteriously pops up whenever you open a game.

If you’ve updated your phone to iOS 18, you’ve probably seen ‘Game Mode’ pop up at the top of your screen already.

If you’re confused as to what it is, or how to turn it off, we’ve broken down the latest update for you.

Game Mode’s focus is on freeing up resources on your phone when you play a game by reducing background activity.

This works both at a system level and for any apps you may have open in the background.

This means that you will see higher and more stable frame rates when playing mobile games like Genshin Impact or Pokémon Go.

However, to do this Game Mode will often shut down apps that you have running in the background.

Through some testing, we’ve found that certain apps, such as Apple Music and Spotify, will remain open even when playing a game.

If you are using AirPods while playing it will automatically set them to low latency mode, which will help reduce any sound delay as you play.

Those who want to ensure all their background apps remain running while they play games will want to shut Game Mode off so they can quickly return to what they were doing before.

If you want to turn Game Mode off, you’ll have to start by launching a game. When you do this you’ll see a pop-up at the top of the screen explaining that Game Mode is on.

Tap this before it disappears, and it will open up a menu where you can turn Game Mode off by default.

If you missed the pop-up, or you want to turn Game Mode back on, you can do so from the Control Centre.

Swipe down from the top right of your screen to open up the Control Centre, and at the top of the screen you will see a label for your game.

Tap this to bring up the same menu as before, and you can then toggle Game Mode on or off.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to turn off Game Mode from a system level, and you can only turn it off during gameplay.

Hollyoaks sex symbol unrecognisable 24 years after scandalous soap affair that shocked the UK

SHE was a 90s Hollyoaks pin-up who was part of a shockingly steamy affair storyline with a famous hunk.

Twenty-five years on from her character Kate Patrick’s fling with Jeremy Edwards’ Kurt Benson, Natasha Symms looks very different having swapped her brunette hair for a blonde ‘do.

Natasha, who has also appeared in four episodes of Emmerdale, joined the Hollyoaks cast in 1997.

Her character became known as a ‘maneater’ after a series of affairs.

At the time, Natasha relished the role, explaining: “I’m a bit of a femme fatale, as they call it. I’ve managed to wreck about two marriages, one being the main married couple of the show.

“It’s a brilliant character. She unfortunately gets rather obsessed with the married men and she goes a bit nutty.”

One of those affairs saw her ruin Kurt’s marriage to his wife, and Kate’s step-sister, Ruth.

Kate never saw eye to eye with Ruth and when they became part of each other’s family through their parents’ relationship she sought the ultimate revenge.

The nation was torn over their betrayal, with some slamming the pairing while others felt they made a better couple than Kurt or Ruth ever did.

The dysfunctional family dynamic went on to earn a nod in the Most Dramatic Storyline category at the Inside Soap Awards.

Perhaps even more shockingly, Kate was introduced to her twin brother Joe, whom she had been separated from for her entire life, and the pair developed romantic feelings for one another.

The siblings even shared a kiss and, despite his best efforts, Joe was unable to control his feelings towards Kate.

It ultimately led Kate to move away as she couldn’t deal with his incestuous desires.

In the era of the lads’ mags, Natasha was a firm favourite appearing scantily clad in the likes of FHM.

She’s still in the acting industry and now also offers tuition for the next generation of budding screen stars, catering to all ages from two year olds through to pensioners.

Earlier this year she put out a Facebook post offering a first session for just £10.

And she appears to be a hit with her classes, who have showered her with gifts for her efforts.

But he had been smashed off the boards from 12-1 to 3-1 for his first run following wind surgery.

The horse was due to run on the all-weather for the first time and had been upped in trip to 7f.

But Ballarat Bertie, who had raced at 125-1 and 150-1 on his previous two outings, was deemed a non-runner in bizarre circumstances ahead of the 4.55pm contest.

Taylor said the official reason of ‘owner unable to attend’ was a new one to him and not something he had previously seen before.

This led punters to allege the horse had been pulled because the owner had missed the price.

But Hughes, who was champion Flat jockey three years in a row from 2012, insisted that simply was not the case.

He wrote in response to Taylor’s post: “Enough is enough.

“The owner was on his way to see his horse run, he got stuck near Bicester on the M40 (check traffic reports).

“He got 12s and was very happy with that price. He always travels to see his horses. I respected his wishes by pulling his horse out – simple as that!”

Hughes’ explanation didn’t go down well with everyone though, and Taylor said pulling a horse for such a reason ‘sets a dangerous precedent’.

Ballarat Bertie was subsequently entered for a 7f race at Wolverhampton on Monday.

The Kempton contest, a nursery handicap for horses rated 0-60, was won by 9-1 Token Gesture for trainer Mark Usher and jockey Tyler Heard.

Victory in the Class 6 contest was worth £3,140.

Boost for Brit holidaymakers as European countries warn they need to delay dreaded autumn border checks

CHANGES to rules for Brits entering other European countries could be delayed further, amid concerns they aren’t ready.

At the end of last month, the EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson confirmed the new Entry/Exit System (EES) would come into force on November 10, 2024.

However, France, Germany and The Netherlands have reportedly written to Yiva Johansson saying they will not be ready by the November deadline.

The Guardian reports that all three countries are “supportive of the checks” but expressed concerns regarding the lack of testing of the system in the field.

Guardian sources also say UK transport operators were briefed by government officials last week to expect a further delay.

It is feared that the new EES System could cause huge delays at the border due to the extra checks needed.

The new system will replace the need to stamp passports but other checks will be required.

Passports will need to be scanned and passengers will need to have their fingerprints scanned and photos taken.

Delays are expected at the UK-France borders where queues could reach 14 hours at some ferry ports.

Tim Reardon, head of EU exit for the Dover Harbour Board previously warned last year: “There is no way of doing a biometric control without getting everyone out of the vehicle.

“That’s the one thing on our site which cannot happen because you’re in the middle of live traffic.”

And Neil Baker, Kent County Council’s cabinet member for roads said it could cause a “serious mess”.

He told fellow cabinet members on January 4: “I don’t think we can downplay how big of an impact it could well have on Kent and over an extended period.”

Holidaymakers have previously been warned to travel with “extra supplies” such as food, water and nappies in case of the huge queues when the checks are introduced in November.

Other European governments have expressed their concerns too – Slovenia said it would take “four times longer” to process passengers, while Austrian authorities said it would be at least “double compared to the current situation”.

The concerns raised by France, Germany and The Netherlands are not a firm delay, meaning the EES is still set to be introduced on November 10.

With this in mind, Brit holidaymakers should remain prepared for long queues.

Sun Online Travel have contacted the EU Home Affairs Commission for comment.

The new ETIAS system is also to be introduced, although this isn’t until next year.

ETIAS, a visa-waiver, will require all Brits to pay €7 when visiting Europe, and will last three years.

An official start date in 2025 is yet to be revealed

Millions of Brits face being unable to get an ETIAS, as it can only be applied for online.

The Sun's Head of Travel explains what the EES means for you

The Sun’s Head of Travel Lisa Minot has explained everything you need to know about the upcoming EES.

“THE looming introduction of the long-delayed European Entry Exit System could lead to yet more pain for passengers leaving the UK.

“The new system – designed to strengthen the European borders – will require every passenger to have their biometrics recorded.

“Every traveller will have to scan their passport and have a facial biometric before providing prints from the four fingers on their right hand. Children under 12 will have to do the biometric but will not have to have their fingerprints taken. All will then have to answer four questions about their reason for travel.

“Both fingerprints and facial biometrics will be required the first time a traveller uses the system, and then just one of the two for every subsequent trip. Then every three years you’ll be expected to go through the full process again.

“While airports across Europe have the space to add this additional process it is still going to add a huge amount of extra time to the customs checks. Although it will remove the need to have stamps in your passport, everything will still need to be checked either by a border officer or an e-gate.

“Where things could get really bad are at ports like Dover – where there are significant space constraints and multiple individuals will be travelling together in cars and coaches.

“Both Eurostar and Le Shuttle have invested millions in new facilities to process passengers but it is almost inevitable that the first few months of the system could lead to lengthy delays as we all get used to the new system.”

Meanwhile, these are mistakes you should never make at airports.

And earlier this year airports had to reintroduce liquid rules after they had scrapped them.
