Filming wraps on Gavin and Stacey’s final ever episode as Ruth Jones delivers emotional message to fans
GAVIN and Stacey star Ruth Jones issued an emotional message to fans as filming wrapped in Barry Island.
Ruth, who plays Nessa, co-created the beloved BBC sitcom with James Corden, who portrays Smithy.
Ruth Jones issued a heartfelt goodbye to Gavin and Stacey fans as filming in Barry wrapped up[/caption] Cast members including Ruth, James, Joanna Page and Rob Brydon were in attendance[/caption] The upcoming Christmas special will be the show’s last episode[/caption]Cast members gathered to bid farewell to dedicated spectators – and to Barry, the show’s spiritual home.
Thanking the crowd for being “so patient”, Ruth said: “You haven’t seen anything because we’ve been indoors, which shows you’re true committed fans of the show and we hope that you won’t be disappointed on Christmas Day, when all will be revealed.
The 57-year-old star added: “This is our farewell now to Barry and to Trinity Street, so you won’t be seeing us here anymore but we’ve had a wonderful 17 years, it’s been fantastic.”
James Corden told the spectators: “Thank you very much to everyone, we’ll see you soon.”
Other show stars in attendance included Joanna Page (Stacey), Rob Brydon (Uncle Bryn), Melanie Walters (Gwen) and Robert Wilfort (Jason).
In May, it was announced Gavin and Stacey would be returning for a Christmas special.
In addition to the main cast, Sheridan Smith will reportedly be reprising her role as Smithy’s sister Rudi.
A source said: “She is an incredible actress and stepped straight back into Rudi’s shoes.
“It was like no time had passed at all.
“Sheridan was over the moon she could go back into the fold and her scenes are brilliant.”
Gavin and Stacey originally aired from 2007 to 2010 – but previously had a Christmas special in 2019.
Fans were frustrated after the festive instalment ended on the ultimate cliffhanger.
Ruth and James revealed the upcoming Christmas episode to delighted fans through a social media update.
A script held by the pair showed the title to be “Gavin and Stacey: the finale”, thus making it the final episode.
Gavin and Stacey's Best Moments
With the news that the show is set to make an exciting return to screens, let's take a look at some of the comedy programme's biggest and best moments...
- Smithy and Rudi’s American Boy rap – No one will ever forget when James Corden and Sheridan Smith rapped perfectly word for word the Kanye West and Estelle hit American Boy as they walked across the car park on the phone to Gavin.
- Pam’s Vegetarian faux pas – Despite loving a cheesburger, Pam found herself caught up in a web of unexpected lies when she claimed to be Vegetarian. She is forced to keep up the secret throughout the entire show and uses hubby Mick to help her scoff meat. She is later rumbled when Stacey catches her in the act as she scoffs ham in the kitchen. Stacey says to her: “Is that ham, Pam!?… “I’ve seen you, Pam. A scotch egg here, a bit of bacon there, putting those regular sausages into the Linda McCartney box”.
- THAT fishing trip – It remains one of the biggest mysteries in Gavin and Stacey history as to just exactly what did happen on the ill-fated fishing trip. Bryn appears to be hiding a secret as to an occurance between him and his nephew Jason which has left relations fractures. Ness’ on-off boyfriend, Dave, is the only other person to know the whole truth. Bryn did appear to allude to him and Jason lying together naked to keep warm as he said to Dave: “We’re going to have this out, once and for all, man to man, you may know what happened, David, but you don’t know why it happened! It was freezing cold, it was! And when you are that cold…”
- Islands in the Stream – No one can ever forget the classic Karaoke performance of Islands in the Stream. Nessa and Bryn performed the track in front of all their nearest and dearest. It saw the whole pub burst into some line-dancing as they enjoyed a boozy night out.
- The Xmas special proposal – In 2019, fans were left overjoyed when the show made a comeback but it ended on the ultimate cliffhanger. Nessa asked Smithy if she would marry him as she finally laid bare her feelings for him. Fans were gutted as the show then cut straight to the credits as they never found out just how Smithy answered. Will all be revealed in the brand new episode?
Alongside the snap, James, 46, wrote: “Some news… It’s official!!!
“We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey.
“See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James.”
Gavin and Stacey is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

SKY customers have been left without TV service since yesterday afternoon following a major outage.
Sky Glass and Sky Stream subscribers began reporting issues from around 4pm on Thursday.
And this morning people are saying they’re still without any telly.
The problem prevents the internet-based service from turning on at all.
Some customers have reported that all has resumed but others have not been so lucky.
“Still not working, no red light either. Frustrating seeing how much we pay for these,” one person wrote on Sky‘s forum website this morning.
“I’ve had nothing on my 65 inch sky glass only thing visible is the microphone button lighting up,” another commented.
“This is since yesterday. I’m disabled trying to watch TV to Pass the time. But sitting in my armchair looking at a blank screen.”
Another added: “Love paying to watch a blank screen!”
Sky Glass and Sky Stream are Sky’s newer internet-based platforms which do away with the traditional satellite dish.
Sky Q and other Sky boxes are unaffected by the outage.
With Sky Glass, everything is built into the TV itself with Sky’s own operating system installed.
Due to this current bug, it means customers can’t even turn the Sky Glass TV for alternative sources of entertainment, such as using their PS5 or Xbox.
Sky’s outage page was last updated at 4pm on Thursday, saying: “Some Sky Glass/Stream customers are currently experiencing technical issues when trying to switch on their devices.
“Our technical teams are working hard to fix this.
“We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused and remember you can watch on Sky Go right now.”
How to fix Sky Glass
However, some users have identified a possible fix.
The Sun has tested it on Sky Glass and it worked but other users have reported that they have not had the same luck.
This process performs a complete reset on Sky Glass, so be sure you have access to your Sky account as you will need it.
Also, depending on where you have plugged your Sky Glass in, you may need two people, as you’ll need to use the power button on the right side of the TV while meddling with the plug at the same time.
- Switch your Sky Glass TV off at the mains and wait a few seconds
- Hold down the power button on the bottom right of the Sky Glass TV for about five seconds
- Now, while holding down on the power button still, turn the power back on
- You should eventually see the front of your Sky Glass TV flash red at the bottom
- When it flashes, you can release your finger from the power button
- The Sky logo should appear on screen and you’ll be guided through the set-up process – it’s the same process you have to go through when you first set-up Sky Glass

Raheem Sterling makes history after coming on as a substitute in Arsenal’s drab Champions League draw
RAHEEM STERLING wrote his name into the Champions League history books on Thursday.
The 29-year-old made his first European appearance for Arsenal against Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium, replacing Bukayo Saka in the 73rd minute.
Raheem Sterling made Champions League history last night[/caption]In doing so, he became the first player to represent four different English clubs in the Champions League.
His first outing in the competition came with Liverpool ten years ago against Ludogorets.
Sterling then went on to join Manchester City and spent seven years at the Etihad.
During that time he helped Pep Guardiola‘s side to the 2021 Champions League final, but they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea.
The winger subsequently signed for the Blues one year later.
Sterling fell down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge last season.
He was left out of Enzo Maresca‘s plans earlier this summer and given the green light to leave Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal swooped in to sign him on a season-long loan just a few hours before the transfer window shut.
FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS
The Gunners negotiated a bargain deal with no fees and less than a 50 per cent wage contribution.
Sterling is yet to start a match for Arsenal.
He made his debut in the club’s 1-0 win over Tottenham last week.
And his second appearance came against Atalanta on Thursday.
The Gunners held the Europa League champions to a 0-0 draw at the Gewiss Stadium.
David Raya kept his team in the game with a stunning double-save.
Arsenal ratings vs Atalanta as Raya saves uninspiring Gunners in Italy
ARSENAL had some David Raya heroics to thank for a points in the Champions League opener.
Raya’s stunning double save just after the break spared Thomas Partey’s blushes after the midfielder gave away a penalty.
And that was the closest either side came to a goal in the 0-0 draw.
Here’s how SunSport’s Joshua Jones rated Mikel Arteta’s men…
David Raya – 9
Produced a simply stunning double save to stop Mateo Retegui’s penalty and then flung himself across to push away the follow-up rebound header – even better than his effort to deny Ollie Watkins.
Robbie Savage labelled it the “best save I’ve ever seen” while Gunners fans lauded their Spanish hero, who has conceded just once in five games so far this term.
Ben White – 7
Given the daunting task of trying to keep Ademola Lookman quiet inside a rocking Gewiss Stadium but completed the job with his classic relaxed, languid demeanour.
William Saliba – 8
One of the world’s top centre-backs but did not need to be anywhere near his best – solid enough when called upon, including excellent late sliding tackle in own box.
Retegui showed great movement but Saliba will have far sterner tests this season, none more so than up against Erling Haaland on Sunday.
Gabriel Magalhaes – 7
Like his partner Saliba, Gabriel helped ensure the Arsenal defence came out on top.
Starting to run out of words to say about this pair who just concede so few chances.
Jurrien Timber – 7
Adds an extra dimension to this Arsenal side – showing just how much he was missed when sidelined last season.
Arguably had the easiest evening’s work of the four defenders.
Thomas Partey – 4
Martin Keown described the Gunners’ retraction en masse during the transition as Arteta putting up his own “Thames Barrier”.
But Partey nearly allowed the floodgates to open by giving away the penalty three minutes into the second half – only to be rescued by Raya’s heroics.
Declan Rice – 6
Top awareness to sniff out the Atalanta danger and help control midfield.
But squandered a great chance to drive Arsenal forward when he won the ball on the halfway line and could have launched a potent counter.
Kai Havertz – 6
With Jesus starting up front, Havertz dropped into a deeper role – but he is perfectly comfortable there, too, and can carry the ball forwards.
Little to show for his evening, though, but continued to put a shift in defensively until the final whistle.
Buakyo Saka – 6
Drew the foul from Ederson who collected an early yellow and from the resulting free-kick almost squeezed a low effort into bottom corner but for top save.
Given a breather for final 20 minutes with an eye on Sunday.
Gabriel Jesus – 5
Captain on the night was his typical busy self early on getting himself around but virtually all of his involvement was outside the Atalanta penalty area.
Withdrawn before the hour mark.
Gabriel Martinelli – 4
Struggled to get in the game and then when he did get in, squandered a really good chance when he blazed over.
Definitely not hitting top form so far this season and may well find himself among the subs against Manchester City.
Black Mirror’s return to Netflix revealed in cryptic new trailer that gives away A-list star-studded cast
NETFLIX has confirmed the return of hit dystopian sci-fi thriller Black Mirror in a new trailer, which reveals series 7 will hit screens next year.
The British anthology series Black Mirror is known for having a star-studded line-up – with the likes of Miley Cyrus, Domhnall Gleeson, Jessica Brown Findlay, Michael Cera, Benedict Wong and James Norton all having appeared on the show – and series 7 will be no exception.
Black Mirror’s return to Netflix has been revealed in cryptic new trailer that gives away A-list star-studded cast in blink and you miss it moment[/caption] As an old computer screen reboots and and rattles off lines of code, names of actors are revealed[/caption] A host of A-list stars will be appearing in Black Mirror series 7[/caption]Black Mirror has been a favourite among fans since on Channel 4 in 2011 before moving to Netflix ahead of series 3.
Created by Charlie Brooker, the series, which is inspired by The Twilight Zone, explores various genres, with most episodes set in near-future dystopias while using themes of technology and media to comment on contemporary social issues.
Although there has been a long wait between seasons, notably the four-year gap between series 5 and 6 due to the Covid pandemic, Netflix continues to bring thrilling episodes of Black Mirror to the screen.
The streamer confirmed the show’s return in a short sci-fi inspired trailer.
It is made to look like an old computer screen which is rebooting and showing lines of code.
But instead of actual code, it is a list of the actors who are confirmed to appear in series 7.
The trailer moves through the names almost too fast for viewers to compute but it is possible to spot the names of Deadpool and Wolverine and The Crown actor Emma Corrin, alongside Criminal Record and Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi, Barbie’s Issa Rae, and Jumanji: The Next Level and Jackpot star Awkwafina.
A press release from Netflix confirms that Patsy Ferran (Firebrand), Lewis Gribben (Blade Runner 2099), Rashida Jones (Sunny), Siena Kelly (Domino Day), Rosy McEwen (Blue Jean), Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids), Paul G. Raymond (Horrible Histories), Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish) and Harriet Walter (Succession) will round out the cast for series 7.
Though viewers could blink and miss it, their names are also visible in the trailer, as are Cristin Milioti (The Penguin), Jimmi Simpson (Westworld), Billy Magnussen (Road House), Osy Ikhile (Citadel), Milanka Brooks (Mum And I Don’t Talk Anymore) and Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers) who will return to Black Mirror having first appeared in the USS Callister episode in 2017.
The new series, which will hit Netflix in 2025, will consist of six episodes.
“You can expect a mix of genres and styles,” Charlie teased at Netflix’s own mini Comic Con, Geeked Week.
He added: “We’ve got six episodes this time, and two of them are basically feature-length. Some of them are deeply unpleasant, some are quite funny, and some are emotional.”
Charlie added that the season has gone “back to basics.”
“We have evolved to a place where it’s kind of OG Black Mirror this season,” he said. “So it’s all sci-fi, techno-dystopia,” he explained.

- Issa Rae (Barbie)
- Paul G. Raymond (Horrible Histories)
- Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish)

- Harriet Walter (Succession)
While he didn’t reveal too many spoilers about the upcoming season, Charlie did tease one key piece of information to keep viewers excited: One of the episodes will be a sequel to the now-classic Season 4 opener, “USS Callister.”
“Fans of the show will recognise the cast of a certain spaceship from one of our episodes reappearing.
“We’ve done a sequel for the first time in Black Mirror history. Normally, I kill off all the characters at the end of an episode, and I kept some of ’em alive. I’m growing as a human,” he said.

Fury as MPs keep heating benefit while millions of pensioners will lose winter fuel payments
A CABINET Minister faced the wrath of voters over Winter Fuel cuts last night – including why MPs can still claim on heating bills while pensioners are losing out.
Commons Leader Lucy Powell was forced to defend Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ decision to axe the £200-£300 payments for 10million OAPs.
On BBC Question Time one audience member challenged the Labour frontbencher to remove MPs’ heating allowance and use the cash to help struggling pensioners.
To crowd applause she vented: “How do you justify withdrawing the payment from pensioners?”
Most MPs can expense heating and utility bills at a single property – either their constituency home or London residence – to stop them forking out for two addresses.
The only exception is MPs who represent a seat in the capital, or have the run of a grace-and-favour property like Downing Street.
Ms Powell replied: “Obviously we pay heating in our homes like everybody else, and we’ve seen those costs going up and up and up in recent years with inflation and energy costs going up.
“There’s no denying this is a very difficult thing to do and it will be difficult for people. It’s not something we came into government wanting to do at all.”
But Tory MP Graham Stuart hit back: “It’s taking £300 away from the very poorest pensioners.
“The very poorest pensioners are not the pensioners on pension credit, very low income though they’ve got, it’s the people that are eligible for it – but that for one reason or another, don’t claim.”
Means-testing Winter Fuel Payments is expected to save around £1.5billion a year according to the Treasury.
Sir Keir Starmer has refused to u-turn despite a Labour rebellion, and warned of more “tough decisions” at next month’s Budget.
Campaigners have warned that pensioners earning just above the means-tested cap will seriously struggle this winter when their cold-weather cash is axed.
Ms Reeves is also standing firm despite a reported £10billion windfall from the Bank of England selling loss-making bonds less quickly.

MAFS UK’s Charlie breaks silence on quitting show as she reveals she isn’t returning after explosive row
MAFS UK’s Charlie Curtis has broken her silence on quitting the show after her explosive row with Eve Reid.
Things got too much for Charlie, 30, and her wife Eve, 31, as they became embroiled in yet another bitter argument during their fiery honeymoon.
Charlie even appeared to leave the programme with a very telling comment during Tuesday’s episode.
She’s now taken to Instagram with a grab from the installment, along with a sarcastic comment.
The lettings operations coordinator wrote: “On the plus side, Mexico was beautiful, every cloud and all that,” with a laughing emoji.
The pair continuously clashed on their break away as Eve refused to stay in the couple’s shared hotel room, despite them having been intimate with each other a “few times” on the show.
As their honeymoon drew to a close, they once again failed to see eye-to-eye with one another which led to Charlie admitting she was QUITTING the experiment for good.
As Charlie expressed her frustrations that Eve “shut down” when they tried to address their problems, her new wife was left storming off for the third time this episode.
This caused Charlie to hit out as she slammed Eve for “walking away” from their issues once again.
Explaining her decision, Eve said: “I took myself out of the situation.”
Charlie then butted in to say: “You don’t respect anything I say or do!”
“Are you saying I don’t respect you?,” Eve spat back before Charlie re-clarified her comments.
In a rage, a stroppy Eve admitted she was doing exactly that as she furiously marched away from the show’s cameras and out of sight.
Furious, she barked: “I’m not listening to this!”
She then begged Charlie not to “shout” at her despite Charlie largely keeping her composure.
It was this explosive reaction that caused Charlie to admit that she was ready to quit the show.
She shouted out to Eve: “I’ll be leaving the experiment now.
“They’ll be no moving in together, no apartments, nothing – Goodbye!”
She then added: “I’ll go and enjoy my evening – alone.
“Like I have done all f***ing honeymoon.”
As the episode drew to a close, it remains to be seen if Charlie and Eve will return to the show or if their marriage is one of the programme’s least successful to date.
At the start of the episode, they appeared to be one of the strongest couples as Charlie made a very raunchy confession about their sex life.
On their first morning of the honeymoon, and within 24 hours of tying the knot, Charlie was left admitting to the cameras that she and Eve had already had sex a “few times” in a bid to spice up their romance.
Married at First Sight UK 2024
Here's who you can expect in the Mafs 2024 cast:
- Emma, 31 from Bristol
- Sacha, 29 from Birmingham
- Kristina, 31 from East Sussex
- Eve, 31 from Omagh
- Holly, 29 from Huddersfield
- Charlie, 30 from Surrey
- Richelle, 48 from London
- Polly, 28 from Kent
- Lacey, 27 from Hertfordshire
- Adam, 33 from Nottingham
- Alex, 28 from Birmingham
- Casper, 34 from New Forest
- Kieran, 28 from Newcastle
- Nathan, 24 from Somerset
- Orson, 41 from St Kitts and Nevis
- Ross, 32 from Manchester
Charlie said: “Me and Eve have had sex – a few times!
“It was just so natural and… yeah, clearly I’m speechless!”
During a bedroom conversation, the two later admitted they felt their connection was “natural” as they discussed how the romance hot gotten off to a good start.
The surprise sex confession came just hours before the romance between the pair appeared to grow cold as Eve was left admitting that she felt she needed space from Charlie.
She revealed how she felt Charlie was “full on” as they teetered on the edge of a major row.

PRIMARK’S make-up counters have rocketed in recent years.
From dupes of our favourite designer products to innovative tools, you can pick up everything you need for usually less than a fiver.
Beauty buffs are going wild for Primark’s autumn drop[/caption] The fast fashion retailer shared its new products on Instagram[/caption] Among the seasonal offering is lip plumpers, contour wands and foundation[/caption]And now, the fast fashion giant has formulated an all-new lip gloss that plumps up pouts in seconds.
The PS… Lip Plumper comes in two shades of pink and clear, at just £3 each.
“Ever dreamt of having smooth, plump, volumised and moisturised lips?” Primark bosses asked.
“Well, you can have it all with our lip plumper!
“Packed full of vitamin E, this lip gloss is here to give an instant volume and plumping effect to your lips.
“The pink shimmer colour is always a winner, meaning you can perfect that pout all day, every day.
“Simply apply and wait to see the amazing effects.”
Lip plumpers work by temporarily enhancing the fullness and appearance of the lips, usually through ingredients that cause mild swelling.
And while they’re not a permanent solution like lip filler, they’re a cheaper and safer alternative.
Most use ingredients like capsaicin (from chilli peppers), menthol, cinnamon and or ginger extract to tingle the delicate skin on the lips.
This irritation causes the blood vessels to dilate, increasing blood flow to the lips and creating a fuller appearance.
The slight tingling or burning sensation people feel is a sign that the product is working its magic.
Shoppers have beamed that the bargain product “might just replace their lip filler appointments”.
Among Primark’s other autumn beauty drops are PS… Pro Instant Blusher and Bronzing Drops at £3.50 each.
