My council house always looks dirty despite endless scrubbing – it’s all broken or hanging off hinges & I can’t fix it

A MUM who lives in a council house has insisted it always looks dirty – even when it’s endlessly scrubbed.

Nicole explained that the issues with the house, which she said the council refuse to fix, are responsible for making it look so run down.

Opening up in a video on her TikTok page, Nicole said: “Why having a council house can make your house look unclean even after you’ve cleaned it.”

The first issue is the fact that the window is “falling off the hinges”.

“It’s basically hanging off,” she said.

“You can’t even close it properly!”

Next up, in the bathroom, there’s a badly fitted bath panel that’s “supposedly brand new”, as well as broken tiles she can literally pick up with her hands.

In the bathroom there’s “damp coming through the walls”, with the wallpaper literally peeling off.

And that’s because they “don’t have a window that opens in our bathroom and the ventilator is broken”.

“But that doesn’t seem like an urgent problem to them,” she sighed.

There’s broken and dipped floorboards from water damage, as well as “exposed pipes everywhere”.

“The list goes on – it’s endless!” she said.

Nicole added that while people always tell her to just get on with the repairs herself, she actually isn’t permitted to do them.

“In my housing association, you’re actually not allowed,” she said.

“You have to use their contractors and trying to get them to actually do the jobs.

“It’s a nightmare!”

“I’m not saying that other properties don’t have these issues,” Nicole added in the video caption.

“However if we aren’t allowed to fix these problems ourselves then they need to get better at fixing them.

The reality of living in a council house

LEANNE Hall, Digital Writer at Fabulous, has discussed what it was like growing up in a council house, and why those living in such properties are often judged...

When I was a child I grew up in a council house, and was blissfully unaware of the discrimination that came with that, until I became an adult.
My younger years were spent running up and down the stairs of my flat, meeting with other friends who lived there and making the most of the communal garden.
But now, it seems no matter your circumstance, everyone has something to say about why you shouldn’t be there.
Living just outside of London like I did, rent prices are still high, and as my mum was at home raising three kids at the time, it wasn’t easy to find a job that fit around that.
People in council houses are often labelled as ‘scroungers’ or ‘lazy’ but it’s nothing of the sort.
Most families in council homes experience overcrowding, and let’s not even mention the horrendous amount of damp and mould that comes from living in old social housing that hasn’t had work done to them in 50 or so years.
It’s not ideal for many, but it does provide a secure home without the fear your rent will shoot up every single year, which I would argue is vital to children growing up on the poverty line.

“Council houses are literally falling apart nowadays!!!!”

People were quick to weigh in on Nicole’s situation in the comments section, with one writing: “That window being broken is ridiculous”.

“It’s hanging off and they still haven’t come out!” Nicole replied.

“We have a similar issue with ours,” another said.

“Our front door is rotting away, reported multiple times and still waiting.

“As long as they getting their rent they really don’t care!”

“And then you’re not allowed to withhold rent lol!” Nicole responded.

“Main thing that irks me is my house was empty 8 months before I got it,” a third ranted.

“Kitchen is falling to bits – I was homeless and had to accept it. 5 years later still not sorted.

“It feels grotty and minging!”

Jamie Carragher names all-time Liverpool XI with Match of the Day legend, Steven Gerrard and no room for Luis Suarez

JAMIE CARRAGHER has named his all-time Liverpool XI.

The former Reds defender made 737 appearances for the Merseyside club between 1996 and 2013.

Carragher, 46, is second on Liverpool’s all-time list of appearance holders, only behind Ian Callaghan.

But neither Callaghan, or himself, made his all-time XI when he was asked to name one by pal Gary Neville.

Appearing on Stick to Football, brought to you by Sky Bet, Carragher began: “I would go with Ray Clemence just over Alisson, just for the fact he won so many trophies.”

Clemence made 665 appearances between the sticks for the Reds between 1967 and 1981, with his Liverpool trophy haul including five league titles, three European Cups, two Uefa Cups and an FA Cup.

Moving on to his defence, Carragher selected two decorated full-backs – followed by a Match of the Day legend and current star to play in the middle.

He went on: “Right-back, Phil Neal or Trent [Alexander-Arnold].

“Steve Nicol might do a job for me at left back – when you think of players who have played for AC Milan and won the European Cup four of five times and we go ‘wow’, [same with] Real Madrid and Barcelona players – Neal won four European Cups – it’s unbelievable.

“At the end of Trent’s career, I’ll probably say Trent, but I’ll go with Neal due to the fact he’s won four European Cups.

“I would go with Virgil van Dijk and Alan Hansen – that would be a great partnership [at centre-back]. Andy Robertson may come into the equation, but Liverpool haven’t had a history of unbelievable left-backs – even when they were successful.

“I’m going to go for Nicol at left-back, he had a great combination with the guy in front of him who’s going to play, John Barnes in that late 80s team.

“Nicol was a player a little similar to me – right-back, centre-back, left-back, but he was that good for Liverpool.”

Moving on to the three men joining Barnes in his midfield four, Carragher only felt that he had one tricky call to make.

Graeme Souness has to be in central midfield alongside Steven Gerrard, he insisted. “On the right, there’s two options. Before Mo Salah joined the club, Ian Callaghan.

“He is the only player who has played more games for Liverpool than me. He played 860 games, and he won the Second Division with Liverpool and then one of his last games was the 1977 European Cup final.

“So, you think of that journey from being a Second Division player, a local player, but Mo Salah’s got to go in on that right side.”

Carragher then named two club icons up top, but did consider Luis Suarez – despite the Uruguayan only spending a few years at Anfield.

He concluded: “Kenny Dalglish has got to play and Ian Rush goes in because of what he won.

“If Luis Suarez would have won the league with Liverpool – he won one trophy.

“If he had a league title and a European Cup to his name, I would have put Suarez in.

“But you think about what Rush did in those cup finals against Everton – I was crying on the way home!”

‘Massive red flags’ scream Married At First Sight UK viewers as they brand new bride ‘manipulative’ after wedding night

MARRIED At First Sight UK viewers have slammed one of the new brides, branding her “manipulative” after spotting “massive red flags”.

Eve and Charlie jetted to Mexico after viewers previously watched them say “I do”.

Charlie appeared besotted with Eve and even called her “the girl of my dreams” after confessing they’d slept together on their wedding night.

But Eve appeared more distant and – speaking in her VT – admitted she felt things were moving too fast.

The new couple ended up in a blazing row after Eve chose to sleep in a different room on the first night of the honeymoon.

Fans later took to social media to hit out at Eve, with one writing: “Getting massive red flags from Eve. The silent treatment and walking away is very manipulative, especially when you’ve just had sex with someone.”

Another said: “Can understand now why Charlie is so intense, Eve seems to be using her for what she wants and blowing hot and cold leaving Charlie no idea where she stands.”

Someone else wrote: “Charlie is intense, but Eve is treating her horribly!”

One fan added: “Eve needs to stop sleeping with Charlie, not really being fair to her!”

And a fifth said: “Completely agree, she’s such a red flag and takes no accountability. She seems very into the push-pull cycle.”

It comes after fans spotted a ‘clue’ that Eve had quit the process early.

Eve, 31, has been posting about having a girlfriend, sharing snaps of her holding hands with a mystery woman.

In contrast Eve has failed to mention the E4 show on social media.

Man Utd stars ‘hiding behind Erik ten Hag instead of fronting up and doing a job’, fumes Arsenal legend in scathing rant

ERIK TEN HAG has been defended by an Arsenal legend in a scathing rant aimed at his Manchester United players.

The former Premier League winner accused the Red Devils stars of “hiding” behind their manager during his tenure.

Ten Hag is into his third season in charge at Old Trafford after winning the FA Cup in May.

His Wembley triumph was followed by a contract extension through to 2026 after months of speculation about his future.

However, the Dutchman has already come under pressure this term following defeats to Brighton and Liverpool.

A comfortable victory away to newly-promoted Southampton last weekend has eased the pressure on Ten Hag, though.

Meanwhile, former Gunners midfielder Emmanuel Petit has now come to his defence in a brutal dressing down of the United squad.

Appearing on BetMGM’s The LineUp, Petit explained: “I don’t agree with all of the criticism around Erik ten Hag.

“It’s so hard for a club when they keep changing managers as much as Manchester United have and I actually look at the players there and think they are hiding behind him.

“I don’t like it. These are players with real pedigree and they hide behind him instead of fronting up and doing a job for the team.

“It’s such a pity to see the club in the state it’s in. The Premier League needs Manchester United back at its best and it starts with the players.

“Yes, the manager is responsible for a lot of things and so are the board for getting it right in the transfer market, but at the end of the day it’s the responsibility of the players on the pitch and they haven’t been good enough for some time now.”

Ten Hag was backed in the transfer market this summer following his second trophy in as many seasons.

United spent £180million on five new arrivals ahead of the new campaign.

The Red Devils boss will now be hoping to add to the momentum his side have built since the international break.

Saturday’s win was followed by a 7-0 thrashing of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

United are back in action away to Crystal Palace this weekend, where a win could lift them into the top four.
