Floating glampsite where guests get their own rowing boat crowned one of the best in the UK

A UNIQUE holiday destination in Suffolk has just been named one of the friendliest accommodation providers in the UK.

Hippersons Boatyard in Beccles has been announced as one of this year’s winners at the Visit Britain’s ROSE Awards

The awards recognise the accommodation providers across England who provide visitors with the warmest of welcomes.

But Hippersons is very different from your usual holiday park or self-catered apartment.

Guests can stay in in one of six quirky houseboats which are nestled on the River Waveney in The Broads National Park.

The boatyard is self catering, offering fun for families or a romantic getaway for couples.

Each accommodation has a private rowing boat for exploring the river, and there are a wide range of other water-based experiences on offer.

Canoes, kayaks, stand up paddle boards, and a pedal boat are all available for hire.

There are also self drive boats you can take out for the day to explore the wider Broads.

Among the houseboats to choose from are ‘Secret Water’ – a luxury floating glamping pod with a large deck at the front to watch the sunrise and sunset from, a double room and a bunk room, small kitchenette, and a wet room with underfloor heating.

Local cafe Relish can make food hampers if you’re in need of supplies, or if you need some time out from cooking, there are plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby.

Nearby attractions include the Beccles Lido, where you can book a slot and swim in the outdoor pool.

There’s also Beccles Museum with displays on local industries and crafts.

A 30 minute drive away is Secret Sauna, a wood-fired sauna cabin in a secluded location, perched on the banks of the River Waveney.

And if it’s speed you’re after, you can book a turn at Beccles Go Kart race circuit.

One Hippersons Boatyard guest, who visited in August this year, described their stay on Tripadvisor.

They wrote: “The accommodation was well finished with a beautiful view out of the boatyard towards the river. My kids (and I) loved watching the fish swim past as we ate out on the water. We were welcomed by very hospitable staff and found a welcome hamper on arrival. The boathouse came with a dingy and life jackets, which we could use at our leisure.

Wetherspoons customers are only just realising its made a big change to prices – and they’re delighted

WETHERSPOONS is known for its cheap points, but people are only just realising the pub chain has made a big change to its prices.

Most high streets in the UK are home to a branch of Wetherspoons.

Wetherspoons has slashed the price of certain pints across its pubs[/caption]

The chain has more than 800 pubs across the country and employs more than 42,000 people.

But despite this, lots of people still don’t know the pub chain has made a huge change to its menu to save punters even more cash.

Wetherspoons dropped the prices on ales, spirits and largers this week.

Customers can now pick up a pint of Ruddles Best for £1.79 as well as a single measure of Bell’s whiskey, including mixer, for the same price point.

Pints of Bud Light lager, Worthington’s Creamflow ale and Stowford Press Apple Cider will all be on sale for £1.99.

Fans of a splash of vodka can get a single measure of Au Vodka or XIX Vodka, including mixer, for just under £2 as well.

In even better news, Wetherspoons said its latest offer doesn’t currently have an end date.

Regulars have already taken to social media to say they didn’t realise the deal had been introduced.

On Facebook, one person posted: “No complaints here, it appears that for the first time in history a pub has put its prices down!”

Another user tagged their friend and commented: “Let’s go for drinks”.

A third added: “I say well done to all pubs that can do this, as we need to be behind them to keep our pubs going. We need to fight for our pubs!”

This is the full list of drinks that will be discounted at Wetherspoons:

  • A pint of Ruddles Best: was £1.85, now £1.79
  • A single measure of Bell’s whisky with mixer: was £1.85, now £1.79
  • A pint of Bud Light lager: was £2.39, now £1.99
  • A pint of Worthington’s Creamflow ale: was £1.99, still £1.99
  • A pint of Stowford Press Apple Cider: was £2.39, now £1.99
  • A single measure of Au Vodka with mixer: was £2.41, £1.99
  • A single measure of XIX Vodka with mixer: was £2.41, £1.99

Not only this, but this wednesday Wetherspoons also launched a Mix and Match deal for punters to enjoy a selection of chicken wings, bites and strips, and Quorn nuggets at a reduced price.

Each dish now costs £2.99, but you can mix and match two for £5.49, or three for £7.49.

Wetherspoons recently dropped their prices for Tax Equality Day, to represent how a 12.5% VAT cut would help to prevent pubs, bars and restaurants closing across the UK.

On this day punters received a 7.5% discount, meaning an order worth £10 cost them £9.25 instead.

Wetherspoons boss Tim Martin said: “The biggest threat to the hospitality industry is the vast disparity in tax treatment among pubs, restaurants and supermarkets.

“Supermarkets pay zero VAT in respect of food sales, whereas pubs, bars and restaurants pay 20%.

“This tax benefit allows supermarkets to subsidise the selling price of beer.”

How can I save money at Wetherspoons?

FREE refills - Buy a £1.50 tea, coffee or hot chocolate and you can get free refills. The deal is available all day, every day.

Check a map – Prices can vary from one location the next, even those close to each other.

So if you’re planning a pint at a Spoons, it’s worth popping in nearby pubs to see if you’re settling in at the cheapest.

Choose your day – Each night the pub chain runs certain food theme nights.

For instance, every Thursday night is curry club, where diners can get a main meal and a drink for a set price cheaper than usual.

Pick-up vouchers – Students can often pick up voucher books in their local near universities, which offer discounts on food and drink, so keep your eyes peeled.

Get appy – The Wetherspoons app allows you to order and pay for your drink and food from your table – but you don’t need to be in the pub to use it.

Taking full advantage of this, cheeky customers have used social media to ask their friends and family to order them drinks. The app is free to download on the App Store or Google Play.

Check the date – Every year, Spoons holds its Tax Equality Day to highlight the benefits of a permanently reduced tax bill for the pub industry.

It usually takes place in September, and last year it fell on Thursday, September 14.

As well as its 12-day Real Ale Festival every Autumn, Wetherspoons also holds a Spring Festival.

Other offers from Wetherspoons this month

Wetherspoons has also introduced reduced prices for breakfasts, now £2.99 or less across 650 pubs.

The deal applies to the small breakfast, which comes with a fried egg, bacon, Lincolnshire sausage, baked beans and hash brown.

Punters can add a Lavazza coffee or Twinings tea, as well as free refills, to the offer for an extra £1.56.

Prices do vary across pubs, however, so we recommend you check the prices in your location using the Wetherspoons app.

However, while prices do vary across the country, the breakfast would on average cost £4.45, meaning a saving of at least 32%.

Do other pubs run similar deals?

Brewers Fayre

Brewers Fayre restaurants are offering two for £10 cocktails all day, every day. This deal includes all locations besides Scotland.

Ember Inns

Customers can download the Ember Inns app to get a free drink at one of their pubs, excluding those in Scotland.

O’Neills, Ember Inns and Sizzling Pubs

02 and Virgin Media broadband customers can get two free drinks between 5pm and 8pm.

Greene King

Greene King recently offered pints of Amstel, Carlsberg, Fosters, Carling, and Tennent’s for £2 at selected stores.

The offer unfortunately ended last week and there is no deal on drinks currently – but remember to keep an eye out, as there often is.

The chain is instead offering Two courses from £8.49 for those dining at their local Farmhouse Inn.

You can enjoy a selection of dishes from their Weekday Set Menu, from Gammon and Eggs to a carvery, and add on your choice of starter or dessert.

You can also add on a third course for just £2 extra.

To browse the best deals and offers, go to the pub’s company website and see what’s new in “Offers”.

You can also visit sites such as Groupon where you can have an overview of all the deals this month – and even get your hands on s free voucher.
