UK weather: Sunseekers flock to beaches to catch 19C rays as Britain ‘feeling warm’ again after Arctic air swept country

SUNSEEKERS are flocking to beaches across the country to catch the return of warmer weather following the chilly Arctic air that swept the country earlier this week.

Temperatures as high as 19°C were felt across the UK today as the country emerged from a cold snap in which some towns experienced sub-zero conditions.

On Friday, the village of Topcliffe in North Yorkshire saw temperatures drop to a shivering -2.7°C, according to the Met Office.

Today, however, saw far warmer temperatures across the UK.

Most of the country also remained dry, with rain only falling across Northern Ireland and the west of Scotland.

This rain is expected, however, to make its way further south and across both the Central Belt of Scotland, the Scottish Borders, and Northern England.

Overnight, further blustery conditions and rain are expected across the west of Scotland.

While the Midlands, Wales, and the south of England will see no rain overnight, they will face the coldest conditions with temperatures dropping down to as low as 8°C.

Through Sunday, the weather is expected to split into three distinct bands.

Sunny spells and blustery showers are expected across Scotland, with hail and potentially thunder making appearances.

Northern parts of Wales and the Midlands are likely to see rain by late afternoon.

In the South, conditions are expected to be warm dry but with slightly more cloud coverage than today.

Temperatures could reach as high as 21°C in the capital tomorrow, the Midlands around 18°C and much of Scotland around 16°C.

But now the weather service says temperatures could be further on the rise, up from their high of 19°C today.

Heading into next week, the Met Office said to expect increasing temperatures as high pressure takes hold, but that it may be breezy in places.

Belfast, Edinburgh, and Cardiff are all predicted to reach highs of 20°C on Tuesday next week.

London, however, could see highs of 23°C by the time Wednesday rolls around.

Weather forecast for the next 5 days

Here's the latest weather forecast by the Met Office for the UK over the next 5 days.

This Evening and Tonight: A band of rain across southern Scotland and Northern Ireland will sink southeast into northern England and parts of north Wales overnight. Elsewhere turning locally chilly under clear spells. Fog patches in the south, with blustery showers in the northwest.

Sunday: Rain will affect northern England and north Wales, reaching central parts of England and the rest of Wales later. Some warm sunshine further southeast. Sunshine and showers to the northwest.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday: Patchy rain clearing from southern England on Monday. Plenty of sunshine elsewhere after a chilly start. Mostly fine thereafter. Warm sunshine, though some chilly nights, and becoming breezy in places.

BEDTIME STORY looks on a different level to her rivals in what is almost a private gallop for Aidan O’Brien.

She has yet to taste defeat in four runs and has more to come. She won the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot by almost ten lengths and proved that was no fluke when taking the Silver Flash at Leopardstown in July.

She wasn’t quite so impressive when landing the Debutante here 22 days ago but she still got the job done.

Stablemate Exactly pushed her all the way last time but will have to improve again.

Lake Victoria won the Sweet Solera from the front at Newmarket last time and deserves this crack at a higher level but needs more.

Simmering got the job done nicely in France last time and is no mug while Ger Lyons’ Red Letter has a bright future but this is a major hike from winning a maiden here in July.

3.35

BRADSELL can land another big pot for Archie Watson and Hollie Doyle.

He shot to fame by winning the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot last season but has looked better than ever this year.

He landed a blistering win in the Nunthorpe at York last time over this trip and will be hard to beat on ground that should suit.

Believing chased him home on the Knavesmire when maybe not getting an ideal run. Se won the Sapphire Stakes over this course and distance in July and her liking for the track will take him a long way.

Moss Tucker was a surprise winner of this last season and can’t be ruled out each-way again. He has been running over six furlongs with modest results and will be much happier back at this distance.

Rain would help the chances of Kerdos as he likes some cut but ran well being Big Evs at Goodwood in quick ground last time.

4.10

AOMORI CITY couldn’t have been more impressive when winning the Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last time.

He enjoyed every yard of the seven-furlong trip and has more to come after just three runs.

Henri Matisse has won all three starts at The Curragh and still looked green when taking the Futurity Stakes 22 days ago. He is the obvious threat under Ryan Moore.

Seagulls Eleven went close in a Newmarket Group 2 last time but will have to take another step forward.

Joseph O’Brien has a good record in this race and Cowardofthecounty and Scorthy Champ both have more to offer.

The former was a game winner in France last time while the latter missed the break in the Futurity before running on strongly.

4.45

KYPRIOS is still the one they all have to beat as he bids for a second Irish St Leger.

He is unbeaten this season and looked as good as ever when winning the Ascot Gold Cup in June.

He then had little issue in brushing away five rivals to take the Goodwood Cup by four lengths. We know this trip and track suit.

Giavellotto will be no pushover after following his Yorkshire Cup success with victory in the Princess Of Wales’s Stakes at Newmarket.

He’s had a nice break since that July success and looks the biggest threat.

You can’t write off Vauban dropping back to an ideal trip after winning the Lonsdale Cup at York.

His best form would be just short of the other two but he can hit the frame at an each-way price.
