Little-known 10-£10 travel rule that means you will never overpack again
A LITTLE-KNOWN hack when packing for your holidays has been revealed – and it means you’ll never have to pay for extra baggage again.
The 10-£10 travel rule helps you to decide what’s necessary to bring on your holiday and what’s not.
This hack may stop you from overpacking (stock image)[/caption]When travelling it is feels right to stuff your suitcase “just in case”, but regret often creeps in when you reach your destination.
Heavy luggage may be holding you back on your travels – like opting to take a taxi instead of walking or worrying about repacking and losing items.
Less baggage means only needing to take carry-on which saves not only money but time with no checked bag fees or waiting at the dreaded luggage carousel.
The 10-£10 is designed to help you choose what is actually important to bring and what isn’t.
The hack’s premise is that if you can get your hands on the item you “need” upon arrival for less than a tenner and within 10 minutes – don’t bother packing it.
Cheap and small necessities like a toothbrush or deodorant that are definitely used do not fall under the travel rule.
But large “just-in-case” items should be brought on arrival given that the’re under £10 and can be bought within 10 minutes.
Some 10-£10 examples could include a book, first-aid kits or weather items like a bulky umbrella, travel expert Sally French says.
But it’s important to note that the rule is a guideline rather than a rule – and sometimes finding 10 minutes on holiday, if you’re with children, can prove to be incredibly difficult.
It comes after a study found one in three travellers admitted they have no idea how to pack a suitcase efficiently.
A poll, of 2,000 people, found 26 per cent have resorted to sitting on their suitcase to close it and 11 per cent have faced baggage weight penalties.
More than half (56 per cent) have suffered a packing disaster as a result, such as broken zips (21 per cent) and toiletries leaking (20 per cent).
Another packing frustration is crumpled clothes, with 64 per cent willing to do anything to avoid clothes getting creased while travelling.
And 76 per cent would ‘love it’ if they could unpack a suitcase to find nothing needed ironing.
SAVVY PACKING
In response to the findings, Lenor Crease Releaser, which commissioned the survey, worked with former A Place in the Sun presenter and expert packer, Danni Menzies, to share her top tips for savvy packing.
Danni said: “As you prepare for your summer holiday, packing effectively can make all the difference and make everything run much smoother.
“After years of travelling, I’ve picked up many packing hacks along the way.
“Rolling clothes can also be a great way to save space and avoid crumpled clothes.”
The research also found that 31 per cent consider packing their case to be more stressful when going away than remembering to lock up the house (28 per cent) or catch a transfer on time (24 per cent).
But 56 per cent always seem to overpack, with 36 per cent only likely to wear up to 69 per cent of what they’ve brought.
And 45 per cent always pack their bags much more neatly on the way to their vacation – with 26 per cent simply stuffing everything in without a care, on the return journey.
Nina Lumsden, from Lenor Crease Releaser, which has more tips and tricks on @the.laundry.hub, Instagram and TikTok channels, added: “Even if you’re the most experienced packer, often when you take your clothes out on the other side they’re creased beyond recognition.
“When we’re enjoying our holiday, no one wants to be doing chores, such as ironing.”
It follows this travel expert’s clever trick using tape that makes packing so much easier and keeps everything in one place.
And this packing expert has revealed how to pack enough luggage that is still under 7kg.
DANNI MENZIES’ TOP TIPS FOR SAVVY HOLIDAY PACKING
- Decide on a capsule wardrobe – make your clothes work for you
- Decide your make-up looks in advance to streamline your make-up bag
- Wearing multiple layers and/or your bulkiest clothes so you don’t need to pack as much

- Stuff socks in shoes so they don’t get squashed
- Put toiletries in socks so they don’t leak onto clothes

- Pack from the corner inwards
- Put heaviest items by the wheels
- Line the suitcase with water-resistant items
- Decant full-sized toiletries into small things

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag steals famous Cristiano Ronaldo quote but refuses to name him as furious spat rages on
ERIK TEN HAG borrowed a famous quote from Cristiano Ronaldo after Man Utd’s 3-0 win over Southampton.
Ten Hag has been locked in a war of words with Ronaldo over the past week, having already feuded with the superstar during his second spell at United in 2022.
Erik ten Hag used a famous Cristiano Ronaldo quote when speaking after Man Utd’s win over Southampton[/caption] The Red Devils breezed past the saints[/caption] Ronaldo and Ten Hag have found themselves feuding[/caption]After Marcus Rashford bagged his first Premier League goal in SIX MONTHS, Ten Hag weighed in on what he expects from Rashford going forward.
The Dutchman told TNT Sports: “It’s very important. For every striker, they want to be on the scoring list.
“Once the first is in, more is coming. Once a striker was talking about a ketchup bottle, once it’s going, it’s coming more.”
His unusual ketchup reference is an analogy that Ronaldo has used in the past as a way to describe when a striker hits goal-scoring form.
Ronaldo had previously offered the condiment advice Portugal teammate Diogo Jota, while he has used the quip multiple other times throughout his career – first referencing it back in 2010.
In fact, he even used the hilarious quip during the Champions League league stage draw just two weeks ago.
However, Ten Hag didn’t make any reference to the Al-Nassr superstar when using the quote.
The pair continue to find themselves feuding after Ronaldo slammed Ten Hag’s mentality and claimed Man Utd need to “rebuild everything”.

Ronaldo's rollercoaster return to Man Utd
By JOSHUA HALL
Cristiano Ronaldo returned to the Theatre of Dreams in 2021 after some 12 years away from the club where he first rose to fame.
It looked like a fairytale return for one of the games’ greatest ever players, but things soon turned sour at the Manchester club.
Ronaldo arrived for less than £20m and walked back into Premier League football like he had never left, netting 18 goals and registering three assists in his first league campaign back.
That run saw him top United’s list of scorers for the season thanks to hat-tricks against Spurs and Norwich and a number of crucial last minute goals.
But things took a turn in his second season as he fell out of favour after the arrival of new boss Erik ten Hag.
Despite his impressive return in the previous season many fans and media outlets were claiming that his overall influence on the team was detrimental to results.
Things got even worse when Ronaldo refused to come on against Spurs in October 2022, prompting Ten Hag to drop him from the squad for the following game against Chelsea.
While it was also reported that Ronaldo had left Old Trafford early following the interaction with his boss.
The final straw was an explosive interview with Piers Morgan in which Ronaldo took aim at Ten Hag, Man Utd’s culture and hinted about a potential exit.
That exit shortly followed as Ronaldo saw his contract with Man Utd terminated in November 2022.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner penned a mega money deal with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, bringing an end to a tumultuous second spell with Man Utd.
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Ronaldo said: “As I told you, Manchester, they need to rebuild everything, in my opinion.
“The coach, they say they cannot compete to win the League and Champions League.
“[As] Manchester United coach, you cannot say that you’re not going to fight to win the League or Champions League.
“You have to be, to mentally say, listen, maybe we don’t have that potential, but I cannot say that. We’re going to try. You have to try.”
However, Ten Hag launched a spikey rebuttal to the quotes, suggesting that Ronaldo is the one saying that Man Utd aren’t good enough to compete for the biggest trophies.
He said: “He [Ronaldo] said that Manchester United can’t win the Premier League. He said this if you read the article very well.
Adding: “[It] doesn’t impact me, I know in the process where we are, where we’re going.”
Ten Hag and Ronaldo have history from Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford in 2022.
In fact, Ronaldo lasted less than half a season under the former Ajax boss when he played under him during his return to Man Utd.
The Portuguese powerhouse saw his contract ripped up in November 2022 after he had blasted his then-boss in a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan.
The sour ending to Ronaldo’s homecoming allowed the five-time Ballon d’or winner to secure his move to Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr.
Since making the switch to the Middle East, Ronaldo has scored 62 goals and registered 17 assists in his 68 appearances.

A VET who specialises in dogs has revealed the five breeds he would never recommend for first time owners.
Welcoming a pooch into your home can be tricky – your entire life has to change and there’s lots of training to do.
The vet shared five dog breeds first time owners shouldn’t own[/caption] The Dogo Argentino needs lots of training[/caption] Akita’s can be territorial and need proper handling[/caption]And while we’d all like to think bring a dog home is easy it isn’t and veterinarian Amir reveals some breeds are harder than others.
The expert shared a list of five dog breeds he wouldn’t recommend, adding: “The last one is controversial !! But I think its worth a mention on this list.”
The first breed that made it onto the shortlist was the Dogo Argentina breed – a large dog of the mastiff type.
It was bred for hunting which means it needs lots of training and plenty of time outside to run off energy – not ideal for a first time owner.
Next up was the German Shepherd another large pup originally bred for herding sheep.
Again these dogs need a lot of stimulation and are notorious for becoming anxious and reactive as vet Alex revealed.
Amir also said Akita’s can be problematic for people new to dogs, and lawyer Gerald Noonan agrees.
“Their large size, along with their protective instinct, their difficulties interacting with other dogs, and their strong will and independent and stubborn nature combine to make Akitas a dangerous breed of dog,” the lawyer revealed.
Dalmatian’s also made it onto the list of no-go breeds for Amir.
Again, these large dogs were bred for hunting so can make them have some behavioural problems if they aren’t trained by a knowledgeable owner.
Last but not least, Amir said his final ‘controversial’ dog breed to make it onto the list was the Border Collie.
Asked why they made th elist, the vet said: “They’re a working breed! Very intelligent and high energy.
“Many people don’t understand this and end up not being able to provide proper care.”
The clip has gone viral on the vet’s TikTok account @amirthevet with over 265k views and 5,000 likes.

THIS is the dramatic moment Ukraine’s special forces blew up a Russian gas rig in a daring raid in the Black Sea.
Incredible POV footage shows some 14 Sea Force landing craft attacking the Crimea-2 off the coast of the Putin-snatched peninsula.
The exact moment Ukraine hit a drilling rig off the coast of Crimea[/caption] The Crimea-2 was then seen up in flames[/caption] A close-up look into the gas rig after the Black Sea raid[/caption]Video shared on Telegram and X, formerly Twitter, also showed the exact moment the Black Sea rig was hit with pinpoint precision, sparking a massive fireball explosion.
The nighttime raid saw Kyiv’s men arriving in boats and later shooting at the structure as it was engulfed by flames.
Using a MANPADS, a surface-to-air missile, special forces from the GUR shot down a Russian enemy Su-30SM during the mission, causing it to crash into the water.
Friday’s attack reportedly saw Russians losing personnel and equipment, the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine claimed.
The dramatic raid appeared to have finished as the sun rose over the Black Sea, as Ukrainian special ops were seen making their way back in the early morning light.
It comes as a British warship has been dispatched to the English Channel to stalk four Russian vessels including an attack submarine.
And RAF jets were scrambled to intercept two Russian aircraft as tensions skyrocket between Putin and the West over Ukraine missile policy.
HMS Iron Duke and HMS Tyne closely followed four ships as they trawled through British waters in the Channel and the North Sea.
And two Typhoon jets flew from Lossiemouth base on Wednesday to intercept a pair of Russian Tu-95 bombers approaching the UK.
In a joint six-day operation with Nato allies, HMS Iron Duke shadowed Kilo-class Russian sub Novorossiysk and RFS Stoiky through the Dover Strait and into the Atlantic.
Meanwhile, Russian propaganda mouthpiece Dmitry Medvedev threatened to “sink” the UK with hypersonic missiles on Friday.
The former Russian president dubbed UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy a liar today as he made the unsettling threat.
“Britain’s Foreign Secretary David Lammy has promised Ukraine 100 years of support,” he said.
“He is lying. So-called Ukraine will not last a quarter of that time.
“The island called Britain is likely to sink in the next few years. Our hypersonic missiles will help if necessary.”
His announcement came shortly before the FSB announced that it had kicked six British diplomats out of Russia for spying.
The British Foreign office confirmed they left the country weeks ago and rubbished the accusations as “baseless”.
Putin himself threatened World War Three when he said Nato would be engaging with Russia directly if the US and UK allow Ukraine to fire their Storm Shadow and ATACMS missiles over enemy lines.
He said: “This would in a significant way change the very nature of the conflict… It would mean that Nato countries are at war with Russia.”
The recent rise in tensions follows indications that the US and UK are heading towards a significant shift in policy on Ukraine.
British PM Keir Starmer and US President Joe Biden held crunch talks in Washington DC on Friday to discuss allowing Kyiv to fire long-range missiles deep inside enemy territory.
