The planned prequel series Origins will cast his successor, with assistance from NCIS star Mark Harmon. Following Stowell’s screen test for the part of Leroy Gibbs.
Harmon advised the actor on his next course of action.
Showrunners David North and Gina Monreal of “NCIS: Origins” believed Austin Stowell was their new Gibbs from the beginning, even if he was unaware of it at the time. Mark Harmon offered some advice to Stowell following his “NCIS” audition. Actors seeking to take the helm of a fresh yet recognizable NCIS crew must have been tough competition for Stowell. However, it seems that no one was able to hold their interest as well as Stowell.
“We immediately recognized Austin as Gibbs upon his arrival,” Monreal stated to Entertainment Weekly. He was its embodiment. His talent is boundless, and Gibbs the character benefits from his unwavering commitment to the part, his study of Mark, and the show. He also shares Mark’s leadership style on set.
However, Stowell eventually needed to win over more people than only North and Monreal. Harmon and his son Sean would be present to assess Stowell’s performance in his last audition. Harmon even gave the new NCIS member some guidance.
“There you go,” he stated following some guidance from Mark at the conclusion of the audition. “I would simply leave the room right now if I were you,” Stowell recollected. “So I simply left the room.” I returned to Vermont and resumed my daily activities.
All Stowell could do then was wait for a call back, which because of his low-key lifestyle, he nearly failed to get.
And it was David and Gina, who were basically informing me that something significant was going to happen in my life.
Austin Stowell appears to have adopted Mark Harmon’s unwavering work ethic already.
It was reported that as soon as Stowell accepted the position, he began getting ready for NCIS. He changed his diet and exercise routine to more closely resemble that of a marine, and he revisited a number of NCIS episodes for context. It appeared that Stowell did all possible to respect Gibbs and Harmon.
“You always have all of me,” I told David and Gina when they wondered if I would be ready for such a major commitment,” according to Stowell. “All I want to do is give this everything.”
I am aware of the supporters’ meaning. I am aware of what Gibbs means to a great number of individuals worldwide. I don’t want to disappoint the many people for whom the play holds great significance. I’m doing all in my power to provide them with both something novel and exciting and something time-tested and tried.
Another thing he has in common with Gibbs and Harmon is his work ethic. Harmon claimed that even with NCIS’s huge success, he and his team never used a phone during a performance. He put the same amount of effort into the show that he put into anything else he was passionate about.
You have to give this decision and this career your all. Harmon recently told People, “Your job is to be prepared for the opportunity—you just won’t know when.”
He continued, “So all you can do is invest in yourself until then.” “Here’s the real secret: there are no little things. I’ve always worked hard and tried to pay attention to the little things.”
The seasoned actor lives by a philosophy that his late father gave him. And it was possibly a concept he taught by example to Stowell, his own successor.
